Savage triples A25-54 demo at XTRA Sports 860

Michael Savage hit it out of the park at A's flagship XTRA Sports 860, tripling the station's key A25-54 demo from March to April:

Savage's numbers are staggering in both the key advertising-friendly A25-54 demo and the "overalls."

The breakdown:

Adults 25-54 March Cume 27,500
Adults 25-54 April Cume    91,300 (up 232%)

Adults 12 Plus March Cume 70,400
Adults 12 Plus April Cume    168,500 (up 139%)

Savage's numbers ironically have provided a strong lead-in to A's games even as initial feeling was that his politically-charged, unique audio tour-de-force might be fodder for an uneasy relationship between XTRA brass and the A's.

Not now.

While Savage might not be the prototype sports lead-in to baseball, his impact on numbers has no doubt sent a shock wave into the Bay Area radio circuit.

As they say, numbers don't lie.

  1. Rich, how are KTRB's numbers when Savage is not on? For some reason I doubt they are as good.

It is sad to say but in my opinion there is no reason to listen to 860 unless the A's are on, sure if you are a right wing nut then tune into Savage, now he is up to 20% of their 24hr programming. Anyways if their syndicated sports content was something I wanted to listen to then maybe I would tune in, but all their programming is 2nd rate, at least in my opinion, tell me if I am wrong. Maybe they should try to get some ESPN or more Fox Sports (other than JT) programming? , or at least on-air talent that have a more national presence. I would love it if they brought in Scott Van Pelt or Doug Gotttlieb. I don't even know if that is possible though.

Who is Rick Tittle (middays) anyways?

Ken Korach does keeps me listening but that is it as of now...

  2. Dr. Savage is a national treasure. No one on radio today has his command of using language, diction, cultural/political commentary. His broadcasts evokes tones of jazz saxophone greats like John Coltrane and Sonny Rollins. Welcome home Dr. Savage!!!

  3. Jeffrey your opinion is like an Ass, we all have one. "Right-Wing Nut"? Just because people don't see it the same as you does not mean they are nuts. You know the liberals are quick to brainwash with ethical relativism yet they get upset when someone disagrees, like an Absolutist.

  4. I love listening to the Weiner Nation on a daily bases. Hope his ratings continue on the up so he is on the air for many years to come.

  5. Too bad for me,I catch more of Savage than is healthy. So far he's said Obama backs a immigrant who raped a woman. That Michele Obama was a dope for putting a vegetable garden in.Wow,she's evil. btw, And he's an expert in nutrition? railing against vegetables?
He NEVER complains about big business,in fact he endorses a "miracle" gas saver...of course, there is no such thing but if ripping off his listeners makes him money..no ethics I see.
And he's racist, a bigot, and even when proven wrong live on air...goes on like he never heard himself bested.
    I could go on ...

  6. Poor liberals can't take the truth, go cry somewhere else

  7. Obama does back the illegal aliens duh!look at how he's handling Arizona enforcing national law. Michele Obama should worry about more important things other than pushing the green agenda on our children(mabee learning to stock a nuclear bomb shelter? You know for when Iran nukes us). Savage does speak up about abuses of big business(remember dubai ports deal)and interlocking corperate directorships.Obviously anyone that would make the case that he is a racist hasn't listened much to his program Legal immigrants love him.

  8. Michael Savage tells the truth. He is a man who sees what is happening and tells it how it is. He is a man whom children can look up to and aspire to be like. He encourages people to love their country and to love thy neighbor. He is a man who cares for the enviroment and protects animals. He actually does what he says, and he isn't concerned with what people think. He is a REAL man, not a faker like all of you liberal idiots who act out everything in your lives. We know who the liberals are. Liberals are those who don't care about the truth, only about appearances. Stop deluding yourselves! Keep up the good work Michael Savage!!

  9. "Right Wing Nut"...lol. Now the common American is a RWN. Typical comment from the Gay Area.

  10. Dr. Savage isn't nationally known? What a ridiculous comment! When I lived in Nashville I absolutely lived to hear him in the evenings. Now that I am a little south of there I still listen online, keep speaking truth to the world Savage!

  11. I have listened to Michael Savage for the past year and read many of his books---he TELLs it like it is but is sometimes is Rude to callers by assuming since he has a PhD that others are stupid----come on there-- are a multitude of smart listeners who are self-taught and well educated and politically active. There is no web address for dispatching him an email! And when calling his number the line is always busy---must be due to computer programing whereby the time the show airs and is actually air locally (Houston, TX.) there is a 3 hour time difference.

Most of the time he is informative & entertaining with real substance but lacks Humility on other occasions!

  12. Savage speaks the truth without the PC coating of some other radio pundits. I've been listening to Savage for 6 years and have yet to hear a "liberal" caller get the best of him. Progressives always fall back on their "raw emotional beliefs" to cover for their lack of intellect, and lack of factual information.

  13. listen while you can. The right wing nuts will be shut down during our soon coming time of civil unrest.

Will you then find comfort in the silence?

A pessimist has only the hollow satisfaction of being right.

  14. As outrageous as Savage is at times of all the talk show hosts his is probably the smartest of the lot.

  15. The liberals have become everything they once hated.

  16. If liberals can't stand other opinions to be heard, such as those expressed by Dr. Savage, then they aren't "liberal" in their politics. If they want to shut off conservative talk, then they are "fascists" which is to say they are becoming more like Mussolini and Hitler every day.

  17. Go! Savage! Go!

  18. Savage is to radio as Norman Rockwell was to Saturday Evening Post, as Ali was to boxing, as Twilight Zone was to evening TV.

Liberals always screaming for alternatives. Alternative marriages, healthcare and other things. For example: PBS channels, supported by tax payer monies. Well, Savage is an Alternative, doesn't cost me a dime and I like him. But now the Liberals are screaming for his hide. How hypocritical. When they had Air America, they repetively called on for the assassination of the then sitting president. So did a certain radio comedian turn senator. Not a peep was heard from Libs about that sedition. At times I disagree with the good Dr.; But not once in the many years of listening have I ever hear Savage cross the line as the guest, hosts, and callers of Air America blantedly did as often as they could.

I smile every time I hear Teddy bark. He should get his own show. But I suppose the Liberals would want their pets to have a show as well, maybe starring a snake in the grass.

  20. It is a true pleasure to have Dr. Savage back on the air. His abrasive style in defense of this nation is no sin. Thank you 860!

  21. you can take a jackass(dummycrat)to water but you cannot make it drink. savage only speaks facts not lies, it will never make sense to any liberal, their brains lack common sense.keep up the the good work Dr.Savage.

  22. Jeffrey Scott just proves Dr. Savage's point about the mindless, castrated "men" in this country who would rather watch hours and hours of a meaningless game or chase a little white ball than take an interest in our corrupt government and the potential downfall of our nation.

  23. Dr. Savage is a true human being. A messenger from God. He tells it all in a way I never could. Keep it up Mike. You speak for so many....... God bless.

If you knew anything about the "history of the medium" (sounds like something Savage might say) that is talk radio you would know that for years Bob Grand gave the Yankees a strong lead-in, first at WMCA and then later at WABC.

  25. Thoroughly delighted by 90% of your comments. I was expecting filthy Demon-rat' banter bruited over this blog due to M.S.'s polarizing nature, but that might just be NY cesspool remnants. I am now in FL and have found a core that I can relate to. What a breath of fresh air you guys are out there with the exception of J. Scott...point to yourself for a second- jackass!

  26. I been listening to Savage since 1997. He is no right wing nut, on the contrary, he is a high priest in radio. Thats why he tripled the ratings. Why are liberals making comments? why are they helping his ratings? Answer, because Savage is good and even liberals have to listen, he is an intellectual.

  27. Yes, thanks Dr Savage I listen to you through WTMP 990 in Sydney Australia. Fantastic we would love a similar show downunder.

FYI God bless America; Aussies are your mates!

  28. Even when you show beyond a reasonable doubt that left wing bone smugglers and jihadist ideologists are not as popular as american pie and baseball, they still have the arrogance to think the country has the same political leanings as their hackey sack circle on the quad at the university before poli-sci and ethnic studies class. Get a clue, we are not dead yet.

  29. My theory is that Michael is actually quite progressive in his thinking but puts on a show for the extreme right-wingers to eat up. I have seen him around town (SF) enjoying the same restaurant (at the same time) as Willie Brown. They almost seemed like they were friends.

He loves SF; he got a Ph.D. from UC Berkeley that probably had him in Berkeley for six hears. For a right-winger, he seems to be attracted to the same places as lefty-liberals.

    What do you think?

  30. I think lefty libs and conservatives both love good Chinese food.

  31. Dr. Savage is in many ways, the father I never had. His brashness and abrasiveness in exactly what America needs right now. America is too soft and compliant. What really matters tho, is that he is independent and a philosopher.

  32. I have not listened to him much, but I must say I do enjoy some his persona. He reminds me of Howard Stern or Alex Bennett in that he understands how to project himself into a radio persona that seems authentic.Whereas a Rush Limbaugh or glenn beck would seem more like a fake persona created for the airwaves.

Though his he appeals to many conservatives, I feel that it is the way that he does his show that allow those with conflicting opinions to listen. I know his son owns Rock Star energy drink, and we never really can know who the person is behind the microphone, but he does a good job of seeming authentic, as opposed to just telling the core audience what they want to hear.

If you feel like hear a well spoken curmudgeon, he's your guy. Plus, I agree with his oligarchist comments, eventhough I think he needn't hate Obama so much. The man is our president. You should not hate the player, you should hate the game that politics has become.
