I'm on my way to the Oakland hills Greek Festival because my tummy aches for Greek sausage and they have gorgeous women up there, but quickly had to zone in to compliment KNBR 1050, (quickly making 680 "mothership" look bleaker by the moment) tonsil, Damon Bruce for his well-deserved, passionate take-down of the SF Giants.
We occasionally drift into spots here when there's nothing on the media dial to report about and knowing how the 'Gnats make DBruce and his missives ever so popular, after their abysmal failure against the SD Padres, I waited with mucho anticipation for his show on Friday to see if he saw what I saw.
I like the words: "BIG Picture." So does Bruce.
While the other wretched scribblers, Internet fakes and TV people did their "its only May" mantra, I sensed this failure with a bit of overall Gnats residue. Although more of an A's partisan, (and boy, don't they look great--thanks for the tease, Dallas) nevertheless, the Giants and their KNBR/Santangelo/Urban enablers look to the stars, DBruce looks to common sense.
He's been on Sabean's ass for years and he's right. How can a GM in pro sports with this guys record the past three years have a gig? What? Does he have pictures?
Bruce delivered, as usual. By the way, I like the palookas who e-mail that I'm 'sniffing Bruce and that he's in my back pocket. Yeah, oh really? Sure, especially when I e-mail and we get into shouting matches over industry crap, my blog, what people think of me, (not much)--truth is, I scream, he screams back and at the end of the day, I still LISTEN to this schmuck because he has some balls and isn't afraid of anybody.
Too bad he has a ficus and talks way too often with 'Bone girls.
See ya. Oh, Monday, in LA for biz--may file a short item, but may not. Check next Tuesday for some major announcement.
Well, jokes on you Rich. The Giants are about to sweep the Astros. Why the worry? It's only May.
ReplyDeleteYeah, they'll sweep those mighty Astros and then let's start printing playoff tix.
ReplyDeleteThe "mighty" Astros.
Everyone sweeps the Astros! Some of their players want off the team and are public about it. Look for Berkman to be traded to a contender after July.
ReplyDeleteG-Men got swept twice by the Pods. Gotta start winning IN the division to WIN the division. It is still early but it is quite clear the Pods have the Giants figured out. Time to make some adjustments. Buster Possey, anyone?
The mistake is to think the Giants are really okay after they beat up on the Astros. Panda needs some time off (did he get injured last night though?). Can Freddie Sanchez get off the DL? Is De La Rosa not coming back from the DL?
Having a show to vent and hear rants about a team makes for good radio even though the Giants want the soft media. D-Bruce is great for this while Kruk and Kyp spent the pre-game the other day defending Griffey's nap and the sanctity of the clubhouse to outsiders. To me, that just reconfirms the Good Old Boys club where you don't rat out your fellow players for steroids.
