Lee Rodgers OUT at KSFO; Veteran SF radio host; UPDATE; Sussman In
Veteran KSFO morning personality, Lee Rodgers, has apparently been let go at the Citadel-owned, right-wing talk station. KSFO is the sister station of KGO radio.
Attempts to reach station management were unsuccessful. On KSFO's web site, Rodgers is not listed on its weekday schedule, and an independent source close to the station, told me, via e-mail, that Rodgers "was out."
The station schedule lists Brian Sussman, who has a 6- 8PM show weeknights and fills in for Rodgers on Monday mornings.
Attempts to contact Rodgers were unsuccessful. He has been at KSFO since 1995 and also spent many years at KGO. His contract status was unclear, but many high-profile Citadel/KGO/KSFO personnel have been laid off and/or given severance buyouts at the financially-beleaguered broadcast company.
UPDATE: 2: 24: 54 PST --BRIAN SUSSMAN TAKES OVER FOR RODGERS:
From KSFO:
KSFO Morning Show with Brian Sussman
Monday - Friday: 5:00 AM - 9:00 AM
Call-in Number: (415)(510)(408)(707)-808-5600
KSFO welcomes Brian Sussman to the KSFO Morning Show.
After 7 years as host of KSFO’s early evening program, Brian Sussman was named today as the new host of the station’s Morning Show.
Brian said, “I’m excited by the opportunity to start the day for KSFO’s listeners, and to take the reins of the Bay Area’s most-listened-to morning talk program”. It’s comfortable territory for Sussman who in addition to his evening show had also been the morning show’s host every Monday for several years
Before switching to radio, Brian had a successful career as a television meteorologist. His work was honored with numerous Emmys and awards from the Associated Press and the Radio Television News Directors Association in addition to a distinguished service honor from the National Education Association. At KPIX television over 12 years, Brain highlighted the stories of foster children in need of adoption. As a result of “Brian’s Kids” over 400 children were adopted, and his own house expanded notably as a result of the program.
Brian succeeds morning host Lee Rodgers. “This was a very natural transition,” according to KSFO Programming Vice President, Jack Swanson. “Although a lot of listeners were unaware, Lee had actually moved to Arizona many years ago and was broadcasting from his home. He later cut back his work schedule to only 4 days a week, which created the opportunity for Brian to become part of the show. We are grateful to Lee for his many contributions, and wish him many happy years in Arizona.”
The station’s supporting cast including traffic guru, Officer Vic and business reporter, “Big Buck” McQuillan will remain on the show.

Oh, Boo hoo, another right-wing bigot is tossed from the Bay Area's cesspool of media meanies.
ReplyDeleteOf course you don't need a weatherman (Brian Sussman) to know which way the wind blows.
Maybe it's time to re-animate Don Sherwood or Al Collins at KSFO?
They'll both be on the air right after they finish voting for Obaman.
DeleteWorse yet, KSFO is spinning the Rodgers move as him "retiring." NOT! Rodgers was let go b/c of money and really, no great losss...Sussman is a hate-filled nothing, a Glenn Beck wannabee who is about as credible as my socks. At the end of the day, its pretty much a lower-paid nothing that suits Citadel better. As bad as Rodgers was, at least he had an iota of talent--"SussMAN" is a total fraud.
ReplyDeleterich... i follow you on twitter and enjoy your tweets (what?) but notice that for every story i receive multiple tweets, each with the same content but worded slightly differently... today, for example, i received at least 8 different tweets from you on the Lee Rodgers/Brian Sussman story... wondering if this is intentional? its a little confusing (and occasionally annoying), and i'm wondering if you're using different software that retweets your tweets and i'm seeing the result of that loop?
ReplyDeletecheers!
I listen to KSFO, but neither one of those guys could hold a candle to Mark Davis (WBAP Dallas). My theory is KSFO and KGO are both run by Mickey Luckoff, a liberal who wants to keep KSFO weak for political reasons.
ReplyDeleteBrian Sussman means well but I just don't think he's that bright.
jimstinnett...you've obviously never lived anywhere else. KSFO's rhetoric is very mild compared to what you'd hear on the air in Dallas or Houston or Atlanta.
ReplyDeleteI lived in the Deep South for almost ten years and I found Sussman and Rodgers to be very weak, which speaks to the station's ownership and management. If you listened to KLIF or WBAP or WSB or WLW for two or three hours, it'd burn the hair off your arms.
It's not the United States of San Francisco. Come November, you're likely to see that up close and personal.
Just as San Francisco isn't reflective of the rest of the nation, a conservative USA isn't reflective of the rest of the world. No need to wait until November on that one.
ReplyDeleteA conservative or even center-right United States has been the norm for most of its existence, and people in San Francisco aren't going to change that. Air America is gone for a reason. Phil Donahue and Ashleigh Banfield didn't last at MSNBC for a reason.
ReplyDeleteDuring the eighties and nineties, our national political center of gravity was in the south. Come January of next year, we're going to start turning back that way and two years later, we'll go there with a flourish. There's no way to stop it now.
rootvg claimed with complete confidence that "A conservative or even center-right United States has been the norm for most of its existence, and people in San Francisco aren't going to change that"
ReplyDeleteThat's why most people try to leave the south, doh!
