KRON's attempt to silence the messenger; What I really think

KRON hates me.

Seriously, I mean, when you're the ONLY media entity that covers an on-going story and is infinitely ACCURATE, you could be bound to being censored by some of the affiliates you write for; KRON's cast of sordid upper-brass pencilheads managed to remove some of my content from the domain. There's no need to mention the company, (yet) because they're not part of the story.

And believe me, there's a story here and it's on-going. Never mind salacious accounts of upper news management personnel behaving badly at the expense of news staff who coincidentally don't get cushy assignments. That's a story that isn't too much uncommon in the workplace everywhere, only this place there's a helluva lot more. We'll save that, if necessary, for a future date, because if they only know what I really know, hell, we're talking 'Woodward and Bernstein' time...

See, KRON and Young have a convenient excuse about how they turned a once-proud TV station into the visual cesspool it has become. They can blame it on the economy. They can spiel about losing NBC, blah-blah-blah...

Truth is, as I pointed out here, (check the archives) KRON's current financial quagmire and its utter incompetence is all the fault of, well, KRON, and Young too.

The truth hurts, eh boys and girls? So, what to do? Call the outlets and censor me. Yeah, as if word hasn't got out already. You can't silence every frickin' person in that building on 1001 Van Ness you're trying to pawn! You can't! They know. They know about the morning personality. You know who I'm referring to; and by the way, it isn't anybody or anything that comes my way solicited. I don't go out looking for crap. It usually ends up in my e-mail box and lately, I'm getting more than I've ever imagined.

I won't go into the details now; again, it ain't about THAT. Its about how you a-holes in the offices with the blinds shut and the curtains drawn, with your a-grade egos run amok. Most of the staff hates you. They do. The fact that they are able to churn out decent work and do the best they can under the most dire of conditions is a testament to their dedication. Yeah, they deliver IN SPITE of you, not because of you. You should hear what they say about you guys. You really should. Maybe one day, when you're not busy with the interns, and after one of your nightly forays, you might want to toss out a questionnaire, anonymously, where they might tell you a few things, but that's wasting time. You guys never listen.

So keep doing what you're doing. I can't get enough of this. And believe me when I tell you that the more you try to censor, the better off I am. Modesty aside, people know what's going on. They read me. I have NO agenda against you tomato cans. I have never worked there, nor applied. I don't think you can afford me anyway, but that's another story.

The only agenda I have is covering the business. And I comment too when and if the situation merits. Nobody's immune from my compliments nor my criticism. I'm not beholden to anyone, any organization. I take this job seriously. My advertisers are independent and not broadcast-related. I'm one of the few media bloggers that pains to get it right. And I've been right about 99% of the time when it comes to KRON. Tell that to your 509 weather girls and on-air interns!

And remember, ultimately, everything will come out. It will. Enjoy the meatball sandwich at Tommys Joynt.

  1. Just curious why you don't report the full story. If it is because you can't get confirmation then I can respect that.
I really appreciate your coverage of the local media, including KRON. However when comes to comments like , " They know about the morning personality. You know who I'm referring to...." that just looks like a gossip column, leaving readers to guess (a lot of times incorrectly) and what good is that?
Glad there is at least one reporter consistently covering local TV/radio. Keep up the good work.

  2. BarronV1: the "morning personality" tease was mentioned was in fact, a tease, and it was listed that way intentionally. Not to piss off loyal, (and even un-loyal) readers of this blog...I didn't mention the name because the individual isn't part of the story. It was alluded to as a means to describe the environment that many in the biz, (and over there at KRON) know about. A sort of "Inside baseball" if you will.

That aspect WILL become a story if it gets to the point where it disrupts morale even more than it already is.

As for the "gossip" remark, again, unlike some others who feast on that type of stuff, I don't go there. Read the headline. There's nothing about the "personality"; it wss utilized for the manner in which I have explained. Nothing more, nothing less. If that isn't an adequate and/or satisfactory answer, then I'm sorry.

If you read more in the ensuing days, you'll understand. Thanks for the frequent feedback, good and bad.

  3. I just don't get what your point is with this post. Yes, it does seem vaguely like a tease for a future post. But it's not very well written. It's written like you're actually trying to rattle the cage of selected readers who work for KRON, with a lot of inside references that only you and those KRON insiders will get.

    It comes off as petty.

You should either post the whole, complete blog entry or just let it go for now. Teases are to get people to watch local evening news, not for blogs. Don't do this, it doesn't make your blog better.

  4. Uh, Charlie, I believe in the first ammendment.

Second, if you truly aren't a fan and think I'm "petty", that's your right to vent. I don't mind negative feedback. That's why I choose to open the "reader comments"--I'm not for everyone.

If this isn't your cup of tea, you're not obligated in any manner to read it. You chose to come here and you're still welcome, but I'm going to continue doing what I like doing and that's reporting and commenting.

And I'm pretty acurate and fair most of the time. I'll leave it at that. Have a turkey sandwich and diet coke and think about it.

  5. Oh man... yet ANOTHER person who thinks somehow the First Amendment applies to anything but what the GOVERNMENT dictates you can or cannot say.

Rich, here's a clue: your 1st Amendment citation is not relevant. It just makes you look foolish.

You are truly truly pathetic. But I'm glad I found this out about you now, you've managed to flush yourself out as a pathetic mean person yourself. Saved me sometime.

Good luck there, slick. You'll need it.

  6. Ladies and Genlemen, "Charlie Wade" has left the building--'please leave the arena."

So, "Charlie", really, if I'm "pathetic", looks as if you're quite the admirer being that you've contributed quite numerously to the blog. I hope, for your sake, whoever's paying you, get it in cash.

And that turkey sandwich? It's on me; why us "slick", pathetic guys do have a heart.

    Care for some after-dinner mints?

  7. Charlie Wade is no doubt KRON'S version of "Flunkster Dude."

  8. Outstanding work, Rich, keep it up! Clearly you're a big boy and know how to ignore the griping, whining and somewhat illiterate comment trolls. Everyone's a tough guy when shielded behind the anonymity of a screen name, no?

I spent many proud and award-wining years working at KRON back in the late 80s and early 90s, before I grew tired of broadcast television and moved on to a more personally satisfying line of work. Haven't been inside Cellblock 4 in nearly two decades, and I appreciate your insight into what's happening on the 2nd and 3rd floors. "Visual cesspool" is the perfect description of what the once proud station has become.

    Again, thanks for your work!

  9. Thanks guys, DarbyO and Jack, all of you...really cool of you to add a bit of reason to the troller known as "Charlie Wade"; probably a KRONvict that's being thrown a bone by the 1001 Van Ness peons...Really, I have thick skin; I don't mind taking bullets, but when its so obvious that this dude/dudette is such a complete plant, then I get a bit razzled.

Even their plants are the -hits.
