Savage back in SF at All-Sports KTRB; Let the games begin; Exclusive

Michael Savage, the SF-based, bombastic, syndicated talk-show host, late of KNEW...has landed a new gig at all-sports KTRB AM 860, (XTRA SPORTS 860 AM)

Savage, who according to Talkers magazine is the third, most-listened-to tonsil in national radio, will begin his Bay Area gig Feb. 1st.

"Savage has enjoyed strong ratings in his hometown, with KSFO-AM until 2003 and KNEW-AM through last September. KNEW's program director, John Scott, said at the time the popular program was dropped because the station was "headed in a new direction and a new mind set."

"Michael Savage is a legitimate superstar in Bay Area radio" whose show is heard on hundreds of stations nationwide, said Ken Dennis, Operations head of KTRB.

Savage is excited about coming back to the SF airwaves---

"Sports fans love an underdog, and in the uber-socialist Bay Area, I am the biggest underdog the media has ever heard," said Savage.

  1. what is AM 860 doing? I thought they were a sports station. Not a good way to build an audience - keep adding/deleting shows, switching their times, and now having different formats. Does not seem to be much direction at that station.

  2. You may recall that Rush Limbaugh was on "all-sports" KNBR in the 1990's before going to KSFO...So, Savage' foray to KTRB isn't unprecedented.

  3. So no more Hartmen, Myers, and VTB? That's too bad because I always thought they were a pretty decent alternative to Ralph and Tom.
If anything I wish KTRB would dump JJ and the Mouth, it is unlistenable in my opinion.

  4. Imus did AM drive on WFAN sports station in New York and it worked out well for many years.

  5. Rich,

What exactly is "exclusive" about this story? It was on SF Gate at virtually the same time you posted it. I'm guessing that KTRB and/or Savage issued a press release that media outlets/people all received at the same time.

    I'm just curious.

  6. Just to piss you off DodgerDog, tat's all...No seriously, WorldNet had it first, as did I, but I was out on biz having a life...couldn't write it until later in the day, but I did have it locally, minutes before the Gate, but Carla M is a good friend. No biggie...maybe too much competitive ego run amuk. Hard for me to be humble.
