KNBR doesn't id PBP Guys; KCBS' Bitker bites back; the Saturday pulse

Most radio play-by-play actualities are credited by the announcer. Its beyond "professional courtesy", its just accepted and expected.

Not at KNBR. Take a listen to their announcers who do the sports updates in the morning and afternoon. They'll air a PBP account of a various game and NOT credit the talent. Occasionally, one guy who gets it and has been around there for a few years does credit the PBP guy.

This is not the biggest issue of the day, but as someone like myself whose been in the biz off and on for over 10 years, it bothers the hell out of me. I'm not alone.

Steve Bitker of KCBS Sports does morning drive and occasional PBP for the Oakland A's. He's been in Bay Area broadcasting for well over two decades and is regarded as one of the best tonsils in the business.

I asked Bitker about KNBR's lack of radio etiquette in this area and he was emphatic:

KNBR stopped IDing the PBP announcers when Bob Agnew was the Program Director, and still doesn’t do it, even after Agnew left. It’s inexcusable, it’s unprofessional, it’s unconscionable. The A’s even told KNBR years ago to stop running their PBP calls because of that. Agnew didn’t care. He figured the A’s needed KNBR more than KNBR needed the A’s.
