Newsroom tension at KTVU; popular producer shown the door; staff outrage
THERE IS IMMENSE ANGER and outrage inside the newsroom at KTVU.
The perennial #1 Fox affiliate in Oakland just axed Claudia Lombana…the afternoon executive producer who just won the 5 and 6 pm news rating for the first time ever.
A former KTVU staffer says there is considerable dismay and outrage inside the news offices: "they're spinning it as: “we did not fire her, we just chose not to renew her contract!” What bullshit!"
Another source who knows the local TV news biz went further: "Ed Chapuis is the news director…I'm told he and Lombana had a shouting match in the newsroom, the day before she was “let go.” She had the balls to stand up to him, which won her a lot of points! She’s a tough lady and a good producer!"
Supposedly, Chapuis is known around Channel 2 as "Special Ed"; not a kind reference and universally hated at the Oakland station, according to the source.

WOW. I wonder who sent this news to you!!!
ReplyDeleteThe shown the door part is right, the "staff outrage" part.. heh. is not.. I can assure you that much.. far far from the contrary.
Respect for your staff, whether they're your superiors or not is crucial.. contrary to someone's belief, having "balls" to scream at your boss or anyone else when you don't get your way doesn't win any points.
She got what she deserved, but I wish her the best of luck. Loosing a job during these times ain't so fun.
Ed Chapuis is a d*ck and even more incompetent than Finlayson, which is something. Having worked under both of them, I can only say Claudia tolerated their puke ideas longer than I did. You really think it's better that the suits get their way instead of the news people? Have you watched *any* of the local news in the last ten years to see how well that approach is working?
ReplyDeleteThe proof is in the pudding. This is why they're all shedding viewers and will continue to so until they are so irrelevant they are replaced with even more Seinfeld reruns.
Fred Zehnder was the best News Director in town for many, many years. When he retired and Finlayson took over, things changed quite a bit in that newsroom, sadly.
