A source close to Roberta Gonzales has told me she has not officially been let go by KPIX. In fact, I'm told she'll do her weather segments on the early evening news blocks. In addition, the tipster adds that "she'll likely be at the station for many years."
We'll see.
I reported, (based on a story in Newsblues (paywall), Thursday--which is generally reliable and well-regarded in the industry), that Gonzales was to be replaced and that KPIX has hired a Seattle weather reporter.
From Newsblues:
"CBS-owned KPIX-5 in San Francisco (Market #6) will soon announce
Deanno as its new chief meteorologist at 5:00, 6:00, 10:00 (on
KBCW-44-CW), and 11:00 p.m."
Notice the words: "will soon announce."
Another source close to the issue tells me that there may be contractual and/or confidentiality and legal issues to sift through before anything official is announced.
Attempts have been made to contact Gonzales for a comment.
UPDATE: Gonzales broadcast her 5 PM report.
We'll continue to monitor and update if/when the situation merits.
