**CBS5 (KPIX) has begun a new anchor "stand-up" in which various news talent literally are standing up and bouncing it back to another correspondent. It's not that unconventional a look, but the initial reaction from here is, lets wait a few days and see what gives over the long run. Style points? Not bad, with substance still to be continued...
**Raiders radio play-by-play announcer Greg Papa, among the best in the biz, as noted here on many occasions, once again fumbled during his post-game interview with Tom Cable.
Papa stuck to game-only material immediately after Sunday's 21-13 inconsequential loss, (for the Raiders) to the Baltimore Ravens. Papa refused to ask Cable two key questions, namely, 1. Do you believe you will be back as head coach next year? 2. What's your feelings about JeMarcus Russell--can you and him co-exist?
Papa's questions centered on the Ravens' offensive game plan and Monday Raiders' physicals. Sorry Greg, but you need to ask the questions even if Cable would not comment. Having not at least tried was unfortunate.
**Speaking of the Raiders, expect the Silver and Black to be on another radio station next year; their contract at KSFO is up in March and clearly, the Raiders want a KNBR-like presence on radio, which ain't KSFO. So, think about 25 yards down the dial and you you have your new Raiders home, but so far, nobodies talking on the record.
**Blathering "mail-it-in" man was back on 680 AM Monday morning with the usual subtle insecure blah-blah-blahs; vacation talk, (yawn) Cable insights, (none) and multitude ass-kissing that really bordered on the innane. Fact is, he has no options on radio and TV so the two entities that carry his services decided to retain him because the money was right for them. Plian and simple. It's a bitch when your options are limited and kaput.
**NBC Bay Area can breathe a sigh of relief: yes, they're stuck with Jay Leno at 10 PM being killed by KTVU's "10 O'Clock News, but NBC has the Winter Olympics in February, so all is not bad.
**49ers post-mortem: 8 and 8; ain't that great. Mike Singletary gets season-long pass from majority of Bay Area sheep media. Good luck on that new stadium in Santa Clara, opening circa 2020. Jimmy Raye? Oy-vey. Jed York and Gavin Newsom? As they said on the old game show "Concentration", NOT A MATCH.
