Michael Savage's Poignant, Brilliant, 'Teddy and Me'; 'Confessions of a Service Human' Bereft of Politics; Classic Summer Read; KSFO Syndicated Host Details Bond With Special Toy Poodle

I just finished reading Michael Savage's new book and if you need any further proof that this talk-radio host can pivot from the most unpredictable area, then "Teddy and Me" is a must for your Summer reading.

It's a poignant, unusual and dramatic turn away from the usual subject matter that permeates the entire syndicated radio talk show on America's airwaves.

Savage's latest book has shocked the literary world veering far away from politics. The Bay Area's most famous and prolific author has released his most touching book yet. It's him and his 12 pound toy poodle, TEDDY, who nips at the engineer's feet as they adjust his studio equipment.

"Confessions of a Service Human" describes the symbiosis but the most touching revelation in the book for the millions of devoted fans, is Savage's story of how he learned to 'Speak to Animals and Audiences.'

Through his "Silent Brother" (the story of his  'disabled brother Jerome and Michael's sad mother) he learns to entertain her and to "make the tears go away." It's a touching, rare look and insight into one of the most thought-provoking radio hosts and greatest story tellers of all time.

Savage is heard locally Monday thru Friday from Noon-3 PM on KSFO.

To order the book and I say this is a MUST READ! go to http://www.michaelsavage.wnd.com/2016/04/pre-order-michael-savages-teddy-and-me/

Savage Complains That Fox News Won't Have Him On Cable Channel in Spite Of Hot-Selling Book

Michael Savage has a best-selling book out and has been doing a lot of promotion on both his KSFO radio show and others.

He also complained Wednesday that Fox News has blackballed him from their cable channel and wondered aloud why they haven't had him on their shows. After all, Savage is known as a leading conservative radio host and his book centers on, what Savage predicts is the coming political civil war.

I have a theory about Savage's blackball treatment at Fox News. I think, and this doesn't require brain surgery, that Sean Hannity, a Fox News host, doesn't really like the SF-based syndicated talker and that is why he doesn't appear on Roger Ailes' network.

This might explain why. And this guy is a good friend of Hannity which doesn't help.

And this doozy on Bill O'Reilly doesn't help either. Of course O'Reilly and Savage have a history of this and it all should be perfectly clear to Savage that his frequent bashing of his contemporary critics might preclude him from plugging books even if the book is on its way to the NY Times best-seller list.

Anyone Seen Former KGO-TV Sports Maven Dan Lovett?-- I Have; Checking in With The Circle 7 'Love Machine'; Monday PM Quick

Remember Dan Lovett? Surely you do. The guy that anchored sports for KGO from 1988-'98; the guy Gary Radnich called the "Love Machine?" Yeah, that guy.

I'm just off the phone with Lovett; we had an interesting conversation. He's retired now living in suburban Houston.

He spent over 40 years in the TV News biz and just wrote a book. It's a great read.

"I loved SF--one of my favorite cities." Naturally.

He worked with many personalities at Channel 7--Pete Giddings, (the famed KGO weather guy) was not one of his favorites. I ask why.

"I'm in the studio doing my first show and I see him, (Giddings), and I go up to him later and ask, 'How is it being the weatherman in San Francisco?'--He's beet red and screams back at me, "Do YOU know what the difference between a weatherman and a meteorologist is?--About 200 Grand!"

Whoa!

I tell Lovett that Pete has mellowed. Granted, with the passing of time we all do. I also tell Lovett that there's "so many stories about KGO--true?" Oh, hell yes, the mild-manned TV vet tells me--one day we'll go over some real winners.

Few losers too.

Talking Shop with A's Ace Play-By-Play Broadcaster Ken Korach; Writes The Definitive Book on Bill King; Saturday Schmooze

Embedded image permalink Friday night I went over the Coliseum and met with the great Oakland A's play-by-play broadcaster, Ken Korach.

We talked shop, we schmoozed --those of you that come here know of my fond appreciation of Korach and his partner, Vince Cotroneo, --probably one of the most talented and underrated broadcast crews in Major League Baseball.

The A's are my hometown team. Love the Green and Gold. I go back to the days of Reggie Jackson, Gene Tenace, Campy Campaneris, Captain Sal Bando and Joe Rudi. Rickey Henderson too. A's and Raiders. Warriors too. It's a Tower of Power of Back to Oakland Superstars, some Hall-of-Famers.

Let's not forget the greatest broadcaster ever; the guy that described the action from the Coliseum; the place that Curt Gowdy referred to as "The House of Thrills"; Bill King, Holy Toledo!

Korach has been with the A's for almost 20 years and recently wrote a book about Bill King. Finally got it and couldn't put it down. Riveting stuff. Poignant, happy, what a ton of memories and then some.

I knew Korach could do great play-by-play. I didn't know he was a great writer. This is a terrific book, a must read not only for those of you that appreciated Bill King, but also like good stories.
There's a ton of stories in "Holy Toledo--Lessions from Bill King: Renaissance Man of The Mic"

Read the book.

The Foreword was written by Jon Miller.

It's one of those books that brings back great memories from the beginning of King's career; I began listening to Bill in the early 70's when he was doing the Raiders. Of course he would soon broadcast the A's, Raiders and Warriors. A three-sport broadcast superstar.

In the book, Korach describes his first introduction to Bill King--as a kid growing up in West LA:

It was a magical experience, having a game four hundred miles away come out of the little box next to my bed, and Bill King made me feel like I was sitting courtside with him.

The book is entertaining and perfect reading if you appreciate great broadcasters. Korach worked with King for 10 years and took over for Bill when he died in 2005. There's stories about that and more. Like I said it's nostalgic, it's funny and there's quite a bit of interesting things to read, some good inside dope too, hilarious and things even I didn't know about Bill King.

It's Summer. Reading time.

This is worth it.

Today Show vs Good Morning America; The Battles, The Money and Ratings; NYT's Brian Stelter New Book

Lots of people, millions actually, watch the morning network TV shows, like the "Today Show" and "Good Morning America."

Except, of course, CBS which hasn't figured out how to create a successful AM program for about 100 years.

Brian Stelter, the media critic for the NY Times, has written a book about the nitty-gritty world of competitive egos, frailties, triumphs and failures in the AM juggernaut between Today and GMA."Top of the Morning" is intense. It goes directly behind the scenes, in the back offices and chronicles the fierce backfight pitting the two programs, its quarterbacks, its grunt men and women, the personalities, the characters, everything you wanted to know about the picture.

One thing is certain:  Among other things in the book, Stelter keys in on the fact that Ann Curry was lousy at the job.  Moreover, the book goes into great lengths of just how much animosity existed between Curry and Today's big kahuna, co-host, Matt Lauer.

"Top of the Morning" isn't perfect. The reviews have been mixed. But the book is compelling enough and offers a nifty, intense, behind-the-scenes look at one of the biggest stories about the nature of Morning TV and its significance in modern American TV culture. (How about the fact that Today, not too long ago, brought in roughly $500M to NBC's coffers)

Brian Stelter will join me on my KSCO/KOMY radio show Tuesday, (Today), from 1-2 PM PT --we'll discuss the book and take questions from you. To listen live, (or later on the podcast), simply click on the station streaming audio link.
