Wayne Walker near end of his life was asked if he'd do it over again, (play NFL Football) . He said yes, because the game was safer then when he played. Wayne was knocked out in one game, He later came back and played in that game. Linebackers has 3 times the chance of getting dementia, they take the blunt of more speed like hits. GET BETTER GREG PAPPA.
Jim Otto was asked would he "do it" all over if he knew what the damage to his body was going to be. His answer? I would do it again and I would do it for free.
Great! You know what that means? Little Bobby Fitz is going to be the play by play voice of the Niners because he's best friends with Director of Broadcast Partnerships, Bob Sargent. The nepotism keeps going and going... I bet Dave Fleming would like a shot at that job too.
He definitely is no legend, just a loud mouth. He should have black doctors treat him because he is a self hating whitey, and hates everyone on the right and labels them racist.
I never understood the Papa hate. He was awesome as the play by play man for the Warriors back in the day with Jim Barnett until Rudy pushed him out. Always well prepared, knows his stuff and seems like a decent guy. Well wishes to Papa hoping he returns soon.
Just watched your commentary about Greg. Papa. I was glad to see you put aside your feelings about him as a broadcaster. to focus on the greater picture. We all must face mortality at some point in our lives, and sometimes it's unfortunately it arrives sooner sooner than we expect. Hopefully this will merely be only a pothole in the road for Greg. Having experienced bladder cancer myself and being able to recover from a very serious situation, I feel confident that Greg will do the same.
Like his PBP or not, Greg knows his sports, least the 4 major ones. He is always well-prepared and does his research. Here's wishing him and his family all the best, beat this thing and get back to a normal life ASAP. We're thinking of you!

DeleteSending well wishes and a speedy recovery Greg
ReplyDeleteLove him or hate him, Greg has been a part of Bay Area broadcasting for decades. Wishing him the best through his cancer battle.
ReplyDeleteCan't stand his whiny voice anyway but wish him all the best.
ReplyDeleteWishing Greg Papa the best.
ReplyDeleteHis”Sleepy Floyd is Superman” call is one of the best in Bay Area sportscasting.
Love him or hate him, Papa knows his shit and always comes prepared with his A-game. I wish him all the best and hope for a speedy recovery,

ReplyDeleteI do not want to hear Fitz on the Niner broadcasts. Let him apply at
ReplyDeleteNotre Dame. I also cannot stand the homerism of Flem, the Pillsbury
Doughboy.
There’s a reason why some people call him Boob Shitzgerald
DeleteDave Fleming is outstanding. You’re entitled to your own opinions but he is widely respected.
DeleteFitgerald does a good radio call of football. Odd the timing was so late in coming .

ReplyDeleteSoy Boy Fleming. When you look at him you know he has never hit a ball out of the infield.
ReplyDeleteIt's from all that time he spent under windmills.

ReplyDeleteI know all 4 sports also, but like Greg I am also not good at broadcasting.
DeleteNo Bob Fitzgerald, please! He's insufferable no matter where you listen to him.
