KTVU Reaction: We Still Care

17 comments:

  1. KTVU is one part news and one part nostalgia for me. Growing up in Oakland, it was the station for news, but it also had stories about the city and the people/businesses in the city. Having moved away from Oakland for close to two decades, I still enjoy watching KTVU for the stories about Oakland.

    1. Same here. KTVU has been at Jack London Square forever. I remember when JLS had a magic shop and an Old Spaghetti Factory. It was a cool area in the 80s.

  2. I find it unwatchable in its current form. Not what it used to be.

    1. Agreed and that's true of all of them. Just today I watched KPIX make an ass of itself trying to cover a breaking news 4-alarm warehouse fire. No one knew what they were doing. I felt like I was watching a high school closed circuit TV program.

  3. KTVU tries to sound hip and cool by referring to Oakland as "The Town." Ironic, considering that the minute they open their mouths, it becomes painfully clear that no one there seems to know the first thing about Oakland—its geography, its communities, or its culture. They toss around the nickname like it gives them street cred, yet their coverage often reveals a surface-level understanding at best, and at worst, a disconnect from the very city they claim to represent. It’s performative branding without the substance to back it up.

    1. What do they have to "know"? How to hip-hop dance?

    3. 7:48, I’ve noticed the same. It’s especially obnoxious when Gasia or Frank Mallicoat say the town.

  4. I'm glad they hired a new young meterologist. Them old hags are horrible.

    1. I’d watch. Karen Valentine was America’s sweetheart for a few years in the late ‘60’s and early ‘70’s.

  7. Rich, will you be issuing a comment or doing a broadcast about Devon, KTVU’s new meteorologist who looks and sounds like she’s about 22 years old?

  9. Hi Rich,

I hope this message finds you well. I’m a litigation attorney with over 30 years of experience, with a practice concentrated in technology law, online defamation, and internet-based harassment.

Although the majority of comments on your website and YouTube channel appear to be submitted anonymously or under pseudonyms, there are circumstances under which responsible parties can be identified through legal process. Based on my review of certain comments, there may be a factual and legal basis to assert claims for defamation, harassment, or related tortious conduct, should you choose to pursue them.

No one should have to subject themselves to the level of targeted harassment and hostility you’ve been experiencing. I’d be happy to offer a preliminary consultation and, should you wish to proceed, would be willing to represent you on a pro bono basis, at no cost to you, for matters arising out of internet trolling or reputational harm.

I’ll follow up separately with an email to your Gmail address from my law firm email account.
