Even though Marty is being phased out, I think he was ready to take on a lighter schedule anyways. Nobody his age should be taking calls for hours. He's already stopped traveling to SF and started a new YT channel, so he's already prepared for the next phase. Laskey is good, but he talks over his guests constantly. If he learns to stop that, he would definitely be one of the best in the business.
This is a long time coming. Marty had his run during the Giants World Series era and has basically retired in Arizona. He's familiar with the Arizona Diamondbacks beat writers and broadcasters and that might be a good direction for him if they are interested in hiring an 80 year Marty. Its been exhausting for Lurie and he's running on fumes with his one hour pre game show on Sundays is enough. Laskey has been on board for the Giants post game shows and taking phone calls and has a great relationship with the KNBR management and staff and listeners. Marty should have hung it up after the pandemic but it's just too hard for him to let go.
Laskey is no Marty Lurie. I don't listen to him at all, he's insufferable. Marty has a good YouTube show now, it needs a little polish but overall it's 1000 times better than Laskey.
