The truth is Pam Moore should have retired 5 years before she did. KRON may not have been able to find a Pam Moore replacement but it also failed to realize that Pam Moore needed replacing when it was obvious she wasn't the same Pam Moore that made KRON worth watching.
As far as Liviakis is concerned, she has the chops to do it. The problem is Grant Lodes is holding her back because the "brain trust" at KRON (I can't believe I used the term "brain trust" in conjunction with KRON but whatever) have pegged him as Anchor 1 and he's just not that and never will be Anchor 1 material. But because he's Anchor 1 that puts Liviakis in the role of Anchor 2 (or sidekick) so she doesn't get the opportunity to flex her abilities the way she could if she was Anchor 1 or if she wasn't paired with someone who is as stiff as a board and has the on air charisma of paper mache. She's not allowed to outshine him, so she doesn't. Pair her with someone who isn't robotic and she would rise to the occasion.
Kyla and Ken Wayne were so good together, I would have liked to see them share an anchor desk. Not sure Kyla would want to leave weather though and with the state of KRON not sure I'd recommend it lol.
Spot on. Vanilla is the perfect word to describe their anchors. Noelle Bellow isn't perfect, but she speaks well and has a good personality. I was rooting for Justine Waldman when she first appeared, but since she started valuing IG-likes more than learning to pronounce words correctly, she's become the worst of the entire crew.
Skin color isn't the issue. Bellow is just not that good and Waldman is worse. Neither belong on weekday television in a top 10 market, not even close. Pam Moore was fantastic. She had an incredible career. She deserves a wonderful retirement too.
It may be hard to build a brand around Liviakis or Heenan. Both — and forgive any ageism here — may be close to retirement age. I’m 40 and remember Heenan on KRON most of my life. There are videos on YouTube showing the open with her, Jerry Graham, Pat Finn, and Pete Liebengood circa 1988. Some think AI personalities will eventually take over as news anchors — if this is the case, I want to see Emerald Yeh back with Pam, and Suzanne Shaw with the late Pete Wilson.
What KRON needs is vision and action. Lotta hope riding on the GM but so far no changes which doesn't bode well for things getting any better anytime soon.
KRON is the only station that doesn't bring in new talent. They just always promote from within. Thats weird. They must be too cheap to hire experienced people? They need some hot top 10 market anchor not the Bakersfield people they've already dragged in as shoot and report it types.
@5:22 Boy are you wrong. Don't bring in new talent? Steve Aveson? Ken Wayne? Stephanie Lin? You can quibble with the quality of some of the talent they've brought in (I think Lin is underrated) but KRON is definitely not a closed shop that only promotes from within.
Let's see Bellow started as MMJ Thorn started as MMJ Waldman started as MMJ Lodes weekend guy Lin weekend gal Daryl & James been there forever The only real anchors they got are Liviakis and Heenan
To 1:06 PM: Steve Aveson is a SF native who worked as a reporter and and anchor for local Boston stations. He also worked for ABC news where he was a correspondent for Good Morning America and 20/20. He also served as anchor for several ABC News programs including, ABC World News, This Morning, Good Morning America Sunday He also spent a brief time anchoring at KRON and he is one of the best people I ever worked with. That is "who the hell Steve Aveson is?"
Vicki and Catherine Heenan most qualified but Darya Folsom should join the list. The non skinny anchor at 10 and other guy should go back to the field.

ReplyDeleteHe's so stiff that a mannequin could replace him and nobody would know the difference.
DeleteIf Lodes is who KRON is banking on they are screwed. Not good. In fact, terrible. Major poser.
DeleteCrikey, plenty of good candidates; Vicki L,Stephanie L, Catherine H, how about promoting Kyla G?
ReplyDeleteKyla and Ken Wayne were so good together, I would have liked to see them share an anchor desk. Not sure Kyla would want to leave weather though and with the state of KRON not sure I'd recommend it lol.

ReplyDeleteDEI crap again? Don't the Late Great Dennis Richmond, Beautiful Pam Moore and other notable Blacks count? Stop already!

DeleteThey don't want to find a successor. That would mean paying them more $$$. Fuggetabahtit!
ReplyDeleteThere's always Darya.

ReplyDeleteDifficulty finding quality anchor talent is not exclusively a KRON problem. Agents are telling clients all over the place not to sign.

ReplyDeleteYes it is. But thanks Stephanie. Who the hell is Steve Aveson?
DeleteStephanie Lin came here from Chico. Not sure that's much of a "get". Ken Wayne was a get I'll give ya that.
