When Ronn was in his heyday as the"star" of KGO he ran around the station like a king. He kept producers off balance; with one word could have them fired. He used his name and station for free meals at restaurants; got Chronicle reporters to write flattering stories about him, free tickets to shows and sporting events. He used to complain about the "heat" when it go to 80 degrees in SF. Why he ever moved to Scottsdale is a mystery. The heat there is worse than River Islands. But people who dealt with Ronn and his ego, while having sympathy for anybody who is suffering from his maladies, are not donating to any GoFund Me page.
Ronn was the most disingenuous talk show host I ever produced. Every aspect of the show was manipulated for demographics. Hey, it served his purpo$es, but pretending to know your daughters’ favorite bands is cringey. There’s a reason former colleagues speak so highly of the other hosts, irrespective of their politics. They didn’t throw support staff under the bus.
