Disarray at KRON (Again); Morning Producer Creates Havoc; Natives Restless

  1. Getting hard to watch KRON4, no cohesion, too much musical chairs, Noel Bellows and Gayle Ong doing all kinds of Jack-of All- Trades but Master-of-None

  2. They should just give Darya a pole in the studio. the only problem is Ming Sze is in the same building and she might start a petition

  7. The real issue is all the behind the scenes chaos that has erupted as a result of the technical staff cuts. It's starting to manifest itself on the screen where the wrong video bugs appear, the wrong graphics for a given story, and, most crucially, an inability to have the newscast run like clockwork. Three times in the past two weeks Waldman has been forced to not introduce Grant and Vicki because her newscast ran long. And I've seen similar signs during the 4-7 newscast. I don't watch the 10.

    1. Can't make excuses for what is undeniably a bad product with on-air talent, one paycheck away from working the cosmetic counter. It's bad.

    2. Oh please. The technical staff at KRON has been a mess LONG before any cuts were made. They have on air F ups daily now and then. In fact now the studio techs all sit reading their phones the whole show because they no longer have to run prompter. They have LESS work to do. You can't be serious. They have managers who sit in their offices all day doing nothing but eating. Put the managers to work. They were sloppy as hell before, they're sloppy as hell now. The problem isn't cuts. The problem is lack of knowledge and leadership in KRON's tech department. Nothing else. It's a department that has never liked to actually work.

    3. Um. Do you watch KRON? There's no manifesting technical issues that's new here. They've been screwing up for several years now. Epic fails are kind of a daily occurrence at KRON. Either you find that part of watching them amusing or you change the channel! Cause KRON gonna KRON! I just love Waldman saying Nuc-U-lar instead of Nuclear ha it's very George Bush Jr.

    4. Let's not forget all the walking around the newsroom having long conversations with anyone the TD manager can distract from working. That takes up a good chunk of her day too. Very busy.

    5. At least the technical "manager" is no longer directing shows. That was worse. She made more mistakes than anyone in the department. Prior job was her college station. That's not a joke, it's true.

    6. Yes, this with Waldman. If KRON is going to keep her, make Hooked on Phonics required study material. She's horrible as most of them are. Diction and elocution, the inability to articulate in a clear and concise tone makes most broadcasts unbearable. I can't stand that squeaky girlie voice that wreaks of arrested development. It's something that is heard across multiple platforms and for a grown woman its downright irritating and disturbing.

  8. Was hoping to see changes with the new GM. He's nice but no real change so far.

    1. Implementing organizational assimilation is no easy feat and destined for failure, if ALL levels of management are compromised. On Boarding becomes impossible, if he/she is not empowered and afforded the autonomy required to make the necessary decisions, however difficult they may be. Collateral damage goes with the territory. They are in crisis management mode and the Top/Down approach is not an option. Work Bottom/Up. There is a definite strategic misalignment that needs immediate correction if KRON is to remain solvent. Right now. Being nice is irrelevant. Save it for the new faces who will be replacing those in the previously occupied positions.

    2. If he doesn't fire the news director nothing changes. The old KRON-sters are on their best behavior right now but will be back to their old tricks as soon as he starts staying on the sales side of the building.

    3. Therein lies your problem. Alliances made from previous managerial commitments that if rescinded, inure the "old guard". You can't have it both ways. It's a no-win situation, achieves nothing and will only exacerbate matters. Foundational rot doesn't occur overnight. It takes time and neglect. Partisan managerial decisions are always carved in sand. Everyone has a bankers box with their name on it. Remember this. All are expendable.
