Even Stevie Wonder can see what’s going on. The GoFundMe money is clearly covering Laura’s legal fees—just not on paper. Ronn likely pays her lawyers out of his own pocket, then uses the GoFundMe to quietly refill that pocket. That way, he can technically claim the donations went “toward his medical expenses,” while in reality, it’s a shell game—money out for her, money back in for him.
100% agree, so the question that should be asked is have at anytime paid for her legal expenses. Best part about the story is Jan Black could get indicted as well
@3:24, yep, he’s been footing laura’s legal bills and judgments, and now he’s short on cash for his own expenses, including medical care. technically, the gofundme money goes from gofundme to ronn’s account to his medical bills—but in reality, it’s just backfilling everything he spent on laura. bottom line: the fundraiser is a cover. there’s a reason they call him 'ronn the con.'
A Google search will show "Heat and humidity can make Parkinson’s symptoms worse." Source: https://www.michaeljfox.org/news/hot-weather-and-parkinsons-disease-six-tips-beating-heat So, moving from a cooler San Francisco climate to the southwestern desert is maybe not advisable for a person dealing with Parkinson's.
Another Google search will show that the dollar amount requested in the gofundme is about the same as a judgment issued against Laura Owens ($149,219). Source: Victims of Laura Owens website: showvictimsoflauraowens.com https://victimsoflauraowens.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/8.21.24_Mata_Ruling.pdf. That judgment was due in February, but apparently Laura Owens appealed it. In the meanwhile, the grand jury indicted her, and that will cost her money because she's looking at jail/prison time if convicted.
The timing of both SF Chronicle articles dovetails exactly with (1) Laura's judgment being payable and (2) the criminal indictment. In other words, Ronn or Jan hit up their contacts at the Chronicle and asked for these PR puff pieces at exactly the same times there were real consequences due for Laura in her alleged "paternity" case. (IIRC, it's the third time she's accused a man of being the father of her unborn TWINS. Twins that are NEVER born.)
While any funds from the gofundme may not directly go to lawyer(s), it's completely plausible and probable that the funds are co-mingled with their 35-year old stay-at-home daughter.
Someone (you Rich?) should ask Ronn who then is paying for Laura's lawyers? Someone is. And I'm sorry to bring it up, but there was the gambling back in the day. While that may not be a problem these days, it is also easier to gamble (it's online now) than it was back in the day. And to sell a Sea Cliff house and be begging former listeners for money defies belief.
I'm sorry he has these problems. I am sorry that anyone would have these problems. But I agree with you Rich: I don't think Ronn has approached this gofundme with clean hands: I think there is more to this that they're not telling, and it's their right not to, but then don't beg for money from your former audience.
One of the other commenters here called the GoFundMe a shell game, and that’s exactly right.
Laura has no job and lives with Ronn and Jan. I believe they are paying her criminal attorney from existing funds and paying their normal expenses with the GFM money. It’s no different than paying the lawyer directly with the GFM.
One clarification to Rich’s comments, as well: The AZ attorney, David Gingras, who admits he is doing some work for her pro bono, is Laura’s civil court lawyer who has been with her for about a year and a half. He is not her new criminal attorney. The criminal charges - a long time in coming - are only a month old.
Ronn’s daughter is facing criminal charges because the judge in her most recent civil case (there have been many) believed her actions in that matter were criminal, and the Maricopa County Attorney and the Grand Jury agreed with that conclusion. Evidence from a police raid at Ronn’s house in January likely supports that finding as well. Laura deservedly is in a position where she now needs a criminal attorney, and they are not cheap. That Ronn is renewing to the GFM plea just as his daughter needs a criminal attorney speaks volumes.
As for Ronn….the $140,000 GoFundMe is a dead giveaway. That’s not a round number—it’s a targeted one. It just happens to match Laura’s legal judgment almost to the dollar? Please. That’s no coincidence—it’s a financial smokescreen.
And here’s what really doesn’t add up: if Ronn’s fundraiser is truly just for his medical expenses, and he has nothing to do with Laura’s legal mess, then why dodge questions about it? Simple—he can’t afford to talk.
He won’t speak to you, Rich, because he’s trapped. If he tells the truth (that the gofundme is a shell game), then he’s exposing himself to significant legal liability. If he lies, he opens himself up to perjury or worse. Either way, silence is his safest bet.
Sounds like Ron’s basically committing wire fraud. If it can be shown he intended to deceive GFM donors (which it certainly sounds like), then that’s grounds for legal action, civil and potentially criminal. Not to mention, GFM’s terms prohibit misrepresenting the purpose of a fundraising campaign. According to their own website, misrepresentation can lead to suspension, refund demands, or being reported to authorities.
9:24. This is correct and the length of any punitive sentence imposed, given R.O's health would more than likely negate any lengthy term of incarceration. However, restitution can be imposed and enforced albeit many mechanisms. Property liens, liquidations, etc. This is willful deception and misrepresentation on his part and should be held accountable. It's unethical and fraudulent.
And yes- everyone over 65 has Medicare. My mom had cancer last year (multiple myeloma) and my dad has Parkinson’s. They have very little, but with their Medicare, were able to pay what they needed to pay. I’m sure Ron and Jan are fine- or would be if they would quit funding their daughter’s litigiousness.
Ronn claims his daughter’s attorney is working pro bono. She now has 2 attorneys—her original civil attorney and now a criminal attorney. Working pro bono is very rare. Would he lead us to believe BOTH attorneys are working pro bono?
Pretty clear that the Owens family is both monitoring and editing the comments that appear on his Facebook page. First, it states that you need to “follow” his site for at least 24 hours before you are able to comment. Secondly, if you read the comments a couple refer to other posts accusing the GFM of being fake, yet those posts are nowhere to be found. Lots of questions if and when Ronn and Jan agree to an interview

DeleteRonn was notorious for treating people he worked with badly. Payback is a bitch.
ReplyDeleteI worked with him and he was demanding diva. He would throw support staff under the bus the moment he found someone “better” aka younger.
DeleteI’ve heard the same and that he never cheated on Jan with another woman, on men, I don’t know

It is not humid in Scottsdale, AZ.

DeleteWTF is the biggie on owens? daughters no good
ReplyDeleteDoesn't Ronn have Medicare. Has he also spent all of the money he made for all the years at KGO?
ReplyDeleteThe millions? He also has full SAG-AFTRA union retirement and medical insurance. Grifters gonna grift!

ReplyDeleteMore like a Lifetime movie.

ReplyDeleteGawd, I thought we were done with this drama.
ReplyDelete8:55. It's R.L.'s obsession. I think R.O. has a voodoo doll of Richie.
DeleteI find the fact that they appear to be paying for sponsored Facebook ads to promote the GFM to be in incredibly poor taste.
