Rich, I agree with you about Alicia. She is very pleasant to listen to now.
I was thinking if you could do a segment once week doing "Rich The News Director" Say you were the News Director at KCBS who would you hire, fire, move to new shift, retrain, change commercials, revamp or whatever. Pick a local station once a week and let the Bay Area know your ideas of fixing their stations. Just a crazy thought on a gloomy as cold day...
Rich, as much as I enjoy your broadcasts when you rip and let loose on these incompetent media assholes, I have to admit—it was nice to hear you take a more complimentary and positive approach for a change. Life is about balance, and focusing too much on the negative isn’t healthy, even if, as you often and rightly point out, there’s not much to be positive about when it comes to the state of Bay Area media.
Have you ever watched Mornings on 2? Often times when Frank Mallicoat and Claudine Wing toss to the weather anchor, whether it’s Steve, Rosemary, or Roberto, they can’t resist giving their own weather forecast first. The weather anchor then has to correct them, often in a subtle way. It’s frustrating. Just hand it over and let the experts do their job.
Alicia is very personable, unlike some of the other pretentious, on-air staff. She removes the tragic out of tragic news- makes it more palletable without all of the unprofessional & unnescessary emotional deliveries.
It's a verifiable fact that the Metropolitan Opera absolutely TANKS the ratings for KDFC on Saturdays, but they still carry the broadcast becau$e major donor$ demand it. The good news: KDFC goes back to regular format as soon as the fat lady sings each Saturday. And yes, KDFC's regular format is great musical therapy. When they do Wagner Met Opera marathons, not so much!!!
Hi Rich: Thanks for the shout-out to KDFC!! For the past five years, my radios in the kitchen, garage and bedroom are tuned to KDFC 24/7. (90.3 in SF; 89.9 in Northbay). My car radio knows nothing but KDFC. From 6am to Midnight, all the announcers are female. Rich Malone does a commendable job as PD. The December Nielsen’s have KDFC as the third most listened to radio station, beating KCBS!!
