Considering the diverse Bay Area, it makes sense to bring Betty on to anchor. She's a much reporter than anchor, but she's not getting $300k to be a reporter. I hope Heather gets an opportunity to anchor somewhere else.
What is up with KTVU not finding the right female anchors. So far..Heather, Gasia, Betty, Christina, Crystal Bailey, Claudine, haven't seen Jana, Amber Lee. Are they trying to see who is the cheapest to put on or the staff must obey Mike Mibach screaming management if he is so upset.
Yep, KTVU management seems to be operating under the bizarre notion that simply by making Betty Yu the lead anchor, an entire segment of the Asian population will flock to watch just because an Asian woman is reading from a teleprompter. It’s as if they believe appointing a lead anchor is the equivalent of throwing up a cultural beacon, like assuming Italian-Americans would suddenly tune in en masse if the weather were delivered by someone with an Italian surname. It’s a shallow, almost laughable attempt to simplify the complex relationship between representation and viewership.
Yu is a lightweight. Lots of sizzle. No steak. They're crazy not going with Heather.
BUT...every time they make a decision there, they make the wrong one (Mibach, HH, Yu, Gonzalez, letting Kyla Grogan go). Management consists of idiots who couldn't run a lemonade stand. Too bad Heather had to wait 20 years to learn this.
The first night Betty Yu appeared on KTVU back in April I left a comment that there was no way in hell she left KPIX for KTVU to be a general assignment reporter alongside the likes of Tori Gaines and Bailey O'Carroll. And based on the fact she provided KPIX with no advance notice of her departure, it was especially clear that something was afoot. Given Julie Haener's frequent absences and the writing on the wall that her days were numbered, plus with Julie's son set to begin the NFL season in August, I said, in that comment that my best guess is KTVU poached Yu and all but promised her that in a short-ish amount of time she'd be the face of the station once Haener left.
Once Rich later reporter that KTVU is paying Yu more that many if not most of their anchors, then it became 100% clear that they had bigger plans for her from the jump. We're now seeing all of it come to fruition.
The real loser in all this is Bailey O. whose been rockin' that skintight cheetah mini nearly nonstop in the hopes it would score her a promotion.
She didn't land that promotion but she did score a seat next to Salvador Castaneda on The Point After, aka channel changing time for anyone who considers themselves a Niners fan who wants to get actual game insight and analysis.
Oh, and she achieved punch line status, so there's that.
Does Bailey have an OnlyFans page yet? Based on how she dresses on air and presents herself on social media I wouldn’t be shocked if she does, or if one is at least forthcoming. For context, it’s not uncommon for local tv reporters and anchors to supplement their TV salary with a stream of income from OnlyFans. There are a couple former Bay Area reporters who have started an OF pages after leaving the industry, but if you google it you’ll find examples of current on air talent around the country with sultry OF pages.
@4:50, how is Bailey O'Carroll a 'punchline'? Is it now considered humorous when a young woman who has worked hard achieves as much success as Bailey already has?
@5:17, so let me get this straight: because a young woman is attractive and dresses appropriately for her age, the assumption is she belongs on OnlyFans, a platform best known for adult and explicit content? That's absurd. How ridiculous is it to reduce someone's worth or career aspirations to the clothes they wear or your perception of their attractiveness?
Rich, you mentioned that KTVU recently auditioned several female anchors. You’re right, they have indeed rotated an unusually large number of female anchors through the prime-time anchor seat over the past few weeks. At one point, it seemed as though they were trying out every female anchor on their payroll.
However, rest assured, there was a method to their madness. They wanted to determine which anchor caused Mibach to scream the least in his car after his shift. To achieve this, they measured the decibel levels in the parking lot. Apparently, after his shifts with Betty Yu, the decibel level maxed out at 110 dB. By comparison, when he anchored with LaMonica Peters, it reached 155 dB, and with Amber Lee, it topped out at 175 dB.
Mibach drove down the KTVU ratings among women yet they did not care. His psycho screaming to himself measured in decibels, or his conveyance otherwise in normal fashion to management, could be their barometer for female co-anchor talent; sounds about right for misogynistic KTVU. Bill hired Roberta for his own benefit of no competition with his mumbling gig, right? FOX needs an overhaul of this local affiliate starting with the clueless management in charge of selecting on air “talent” and who gets shown the door. The Sports’ segments are an absolute joke now.
I don't see Betty Yu anchoring nightly for the long-term. She seems to have more interests (ie - social media posts) outside of the newsroom. I do enjoy seeing her anchoring lately, but I'd rather see Heather Holmes behind the anchor desk as much as possible.
KTVYu is an absolute joke these days. Last night, they had Crystal Bailey anchoring with Miback. I have no doubt she's a lovely person, but she is so amateurish as an anchor. There is a constant deer-in-the-headlights look, stumbling, unnatural pauses, and weird facial expressions. She gets away with it all because Miback is actually worse, so he brings down the quality of the newscast altogether. The deficiencies of his co-anchor are masked because his are actually worse.
Heather is the best anchor, male or female, in the Bay Area. Hands down. Look at the way she carries the 4 and the 7:30. To pass her over AGAIN is just plain crazy. Hope she finds the job that she deserves and if KTVU passes her over, I will not watch them again, plain and simple, and I know that goes for many others too.

ReplyDeleteWhoever gets hired should bring a bottle of Miralax with them
DeleteIf KTVU puts Yu in the anchor chair for 5, 6, and 10 over Holmes, upper management deserves all the bad ratings that will come their way...

DeleteWhen I was friends with a female former KTVU reporter, I had access to her photos. I saved a couple that are NSFW.

ReplyDeleteI like Heather. She is smart, attractive, can read well, and has a devil may care attitude. Kind of cold, but who wants a perky bimbo?

ReplyDeleteCrystal Bailey has been anchoring this week and I am not liking it. Like Yu no gravitas to command the desk
ReplyDeleteSigh, never thought I will see the day people getting all bent out of shape over Female Reporters. get over yourselves
ReplyDeleteOnly female reporters like Betty Yu who dresses like Big Bird at the SF Opera opening
