EXCLUSIVE Major Turmoil at KTVU; Anchor Tension Galore; Holmes Unsure of...

  1. I can think of no better way for KTVU to express the ultimate vote of no confidence in Heather Holmes than by replacing Julie Haener, not with Holmes, but with a never-ending stream of mostly incompetent anchors at 10pm, including, but not limited to, Amber Lee, Crystal Bailey, Betty Yu, LaMonica Peters, Cristina Rendon, Claudine Wong, and Jana Katsuyama.

    1. In addition to everyone you listed, Gasia has also anchored at 10pm since Julie was kicked to the curb.

    2. 12:16, Why is the no-confidence vote directed only at Heather? According to your logic, shouldn’t any of the personnel you mentioned also feel it was a vote of no confidence against THEM for not being given Julie's job?

    3. @1:04 PM, Yeah, because we all know the likes of Amber Lee, Crystal Bailey, LaMonica Peters, Claudine Wong, and Jana Katsuyama are next in line to the prime time throne, primed to be the new face of KTVU.

As far as Betty Yu, Gasia, and Rendon:
-Gasia is a very solid anchor but I don't see her moving to 10pm. She's the face of the station in the morning, which seems to suit her.
-Christina Rendon - Not ready to be the face of the station. Perfect for weekends and the 4/7pm news
-Betty Yu - are you kidding me? Overpaid, overrated. Terrible hire.

Heather is the logical choice but obviously the firm doesn't see it that way.

    5. KTVU should add a segment to their newscasts dedicated to 'High Society' and assign Betty Yu to it. This way she can do her sad thing where she pretends to be some wealthy socialite, when in reality it's all smoke and mirrors and optics.

    6. 2:03, I strongly suspect this is why ktvu hasn't given Heather the job, and will not be doing so in the future.
Two white anchors in the Bay Area in this day and age? Not a chance. Frank and Julie were grandfathered in, but we all knew when they left, the cultural and political climate of the progressive Bay Area wouldn't allow KTVU to replace them with another all white duo. On the male front, it looks like KTVU is deeply committed to Mibach (dumb!) but even if they went with Alex S it's all the same optics … a white male. There’s not a snowball's chance in hell they're going to put a blonde woman from Texas as the other half. In most parts of the country this wouldn't even be an issue but here in the Bay Area such a thing is the ultimate taboo in 2024.

    7. @4:01 as bad as it sounds, there is some truth to your point. Bay Area media can't look like the deep South.

    8. I agree with 4:01. This is likely why Betty Yu was brought on. There’s no chance KTVU is paying her an exorbitant salary for her to be a garden variety field reporter alongside LaMonica Peter, Janet Katsuyama, and Tori Gaines. And there’s no way Yu would’ve gone to KTVU for that. All this combined with Yu joining KTVU shortly before Haener was shown door leads me to believe there’s a mutual understanding Yu will be the top choice to replace Haener. An Asian female lead anchor in the Bay Area seems like a no-brainer. Too bad they chose a total dud.

    9. I'll often use an app like News On or Zeam to watch local newscasts from across the country, and even in the deep south, you are likely to find anchor teams with one black anchor and one white anchor.

      Delete
    10. The truth is tv stations, and especially here in the Bay Area, take steps to ensure they have diversity on air that represents the communities they serve. Having two whites as the lead anchors is simply not going to happen anymore. It's not a knock on Heather personally, she's simply a victim of the reality of the world we live in. Her best bet at a permanent prime time spot would be to go to a station who already has a strong person of color male who she could be paired with.
KTVU bringing on Yu, and paying her much more than any other reporter on their books, suggests they are looking to make her the Asian face of the station. Claudine Wong has typecast herself into the silly weekend morning role and Amber Lee and Jana Katsuyama are general assignment field reporters. I suspect before we know it, Yu will be front and center paired with Mike Mibach, and Heather will be the perennial #2 fill-in.

  2. KTVU was an outstanding powerhouse before FOX bought it, run by brainless entities

    1. 100% correct. When they cut to the national desk, Fox, I change the channel. As an engineer, I base life on facts, not some asswipe’s opinion.

  3. Agree Rich Betty Yu is not anchor material

  4. I wonder if Dion Lin is going to KTVU any leads Rich??

  5. Will need to pull Ken Wayne out of retirement he was really good

  6. I heard Applebutt is knocking on every station’s door after being let go by KTVU. Wonder if KRON will take him back

  7. Maybe this tension is going to continue now that the annual Chinese New Year Parade is moving from KTVU to KGO starting next Feb 2025

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Good. KTVU doesn't deserve to host the parade anymore. The proverbial nail in the coffin / sign they didn't give a shit is when they assigned Mike Mibach to anchor it. Despite the parade growing in popularity and attendance, the ratings absolutely tanked from the previous year and now ktvu is feeling the repercussions.

  8. Job should go to Holmes, Gasia,
    or Wong
I like Rendone on the weekends maybe the 7pm West Coast Wrap slot

    Hard no’s:
    Betty Yu
    Crystal Bailey
    LaMonica Peters
    Bailey O’Carroll
    Amber Lee

  9. KTVU should consider Juliette Goodrich, Lizzy Cook, Theresa Ectasio, Justine Waldmen, Brian Hackney, Andrea Nakano, Raj, Audrey Austrico

    1. I think that Hackney will be retiring, sooner rather than later.

    2. I agree, give Liz Cook the reins to the 10pm slot. She has gravitas, and keeps the hand jewelry to a minimum.
Kind of like tattoos on a woman, too many rings - especially nose rings - scream “TRASH !” Sorry Gals, just one old farts opinion, if you don’t like it, go put a bone in your nose ! See how that works for you. About as weak as a Man-Bun. (Any guy wearing one needs several shellackings)

    3. Estacio and Waldman are KRON lifers due to incompetence

      Yes to Hackney and Nakono

      Delete
    4. Waldman is the worst. Woman can't even say her own name without effing it up. She and her creepy husband can go back to whatever crappy small market they came from. Not good enough for SF. Not even close. They are weird ones.

    5. Waldman has a nice body with a tranny face

      Delete
  10. And once Bailey O'Conner shows up in her cheetah micro mini to anchor the 10pm news, then every man in the Bay Area will be clamoring for her to get the gig permanently.

    1. Not with that butter face caked with dark eye shadow darker than LaMonica’s makeup

    2. 1:21, True! Butter face on that big ol' charlie brown head with that Karl Malden potato nose.

What a joke. KTVU decimated their local sports reputation when they ditched legit sports guys with deep knowledge and relationships (Ibanez, Fonzi, Applebaum) for Bailey and her tacky outfits. I used to enjoy the Point After when the 49er games ended. Now that the shows been entrusted to Bailey and Sal (WTF?) I'll immediately turn the channel to NFL Network or listen to Greg Papa for post game analysis and interviews.

I was looking at her the other day thinking of how I'd describe her 'unique' look. You summed it up perfectly!

  11. Pure abomination at KTVU.

  12. She should go back to Texas and report there, what makes she thinks Bay Area station will hire a gal from Texas!! If KTVU put Betty at 10:00, shame on the station. She was only a street reporter at KPIX doing some fill-ins, now she wants Prime Time News, does she know someone at the statio n or connections?? Their ratings are going down. Highly recommend Gasia

    ReplyDelete
  13. 3:19 Retarded Monkey Ass! What the fuck does being from Texas have to do with anything? KTVU, KGO7 & KRON all hired an ex Playboy Playmate! Matter of fact, her anniversary is coming up. Texas grows some damn good looking women. Like you'd know what to do with one. Moron!

  14. "...what makes she thinks Bay Area station will hire a gal from Texas!!"

Grammar and syntax aside, have you forgotten that KTVU hired Heather in 2006, and she has been a full-time, on-air employee ever since? Perhaps you’ve also forgotten that Julie Haener missed nearly 50% of her prime-time shifts. Who filled in for Haener most of the time? Yep, Heather Holmes!

    1. I feel bad for Heather. She's worked a disproportionate number of holidays and fill-in slots while other anchors go watch their children play football or smash cars into poles in a drunken fit. She deserves a reward, but it doesn't look like she's getting it. And she's miles better than Betty Yu (KTVU's current "It" Girl), Allie Rasmus, Gasia Mikaelian or most of the others they put on.

    1. Betty Yu = Wannabe socialite poser pretending to be some kind of social media superstar. How sad.
The girl doesn’t have a pot to piss in or window to throw it out of. She only is able to project the lifestyle she does because of her mega rich VC boyfriend.

      Delete
    2. Who is her boyfriend? No pictures of him on her social media

    3. When Yu was at PIX she had a rock solid reputation for chasing men with money. She’d always do anything possible to put herself in situations where she’d be around rich men. At times seemed much more focussed on that than her job. I can’t imagine she's changed in the four months since she left for ktvu.

  17. What I don't understand, Rich, and this is something I don't think you have adequately covered, but because of your totally great insight and reporting about local media, to me, I think it is obvious that most local stations are in turmoil for one reason or the other. That is why I just do not understand why, Betty Yu, left one place in turmoil for another. I mean, how could she not know about KTVU's situation with personnel, especially since she does read/watch Rich Lieberman youtube channel? Same thing goes with Dion Lim. I mean, as we know because of the connections of Rich Lieberman, KGO is also a place of issues, and we also know that Dion Lim gets more mail than everyone else in the station COMBINED. That popular, and yet, she wants to leave to go to yet another place of turmoil? Can she not see the situation there? Even if these people didn't read/watch Rich Lieberman, local media is in and of itself, a close family albeit in different networks. But they all know what is going on in each other's newsrooms. And so, why does Dion Lim want to go to KPIX, when she allegedly had offers to go to various national markets? I understand why she would not go to ABC national, because it is still Disney. But why not some other national news outlet? Anyway, I know Rich is on all of this, so thank you Rich, for what you do!

    ReplyDelete
  18. More ktvu slop for you to investigate rich: Why did they rebrand the first hour of Mornings on 2 as ‘Headlines on 2?’ It’s sPam Cook standing behind the desk reading the same headlines on repeat every 10 minutes. It’s absolutely painful and sad. I turned it off after I realized what it is.

    ReplyDelete

    1. This is actually smart. People aren't plopping themselves on the couch at 4am with a bucket of popcorn to watch the news. They are getting ready for their day, getting the kids ready, rushing to get out of the house. So airing key headlines with weather and traffic on repeat every 10 minutes is actually perfect for the viewing audience at that hour. 4a-5a isn't the same as 10p-11p you dodo.

      Delete
  19. Down here in Monterey/Salinas they cut the 10 pm news down to 30 minutes to report more local news.
Holmes not getting the job is because of :

    a) The PTBs here or in LA don't think she has the right gravitas for the position.

    b) The PTBs don't like ultimatums from the talent because if she had gotten the position then it would look like management caved.

Heather may want to move on, but she has to realize that that could mean leaving the bay area and working in a smaller market for less money. Is that what she wants.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Heather should consider walking, assuming it's not too much of a financial and stature hit -- and consider suing if she's passed over for the 10pm slot. She's been at the station longer than the other names mentioned, subbed ably in Haener's frequent absence. So why wouldn't she get the job? She checks the wrong box. Classic reverse discrimination ("Failure to promote a well qualified employee favoring a less qualified employee or applicant instead . . . making personnel decisions based on race or gender").

    1. I agree. It’s as if KTVU is clinging to this strange belief that by hiring an Asian person as lead anchor, suddenly, Asians who have never watched before will start tuning in, just to see another Asian person read off a teleprompter. Even more nonsensical is the idea that promoting a well-qualified white anchor, who has served capably for nearly 20 years (Holmes), would cause public outrage. No one gives a shit. The position should go to the most qualified person, all things considered. Period. Anyone who thinks that person is Betty Yu over Heather Holmes isn’t even worthy of being part of this discussion.
