The fake and forced chit-chat at KTVU is by far the most awkward, embarrassing, and uncomfortable of any TV station I've ever seen...anywhere. With the exception of Steve and Sal, who I think do have chemistry, each time anyone else there goes off script and attempts to engage in happy talk or chit-chat, it becomes immediately and painfully apparent that there's absolutely zero chemistry between anyone. Not an ounce.
Add Dave Clark to the list of authentic people. He doesn’t have a fake bone in his body. He doesn’t even know how to be fake. Everyone else in the morning should be given a one way ticket to Splitsville. Time to clean house.
Call me crazy but I actually like Andre Senior. I agree his conversations with Gasia are strange but it's likely because SHE is the one who is a phony. Andre actually seems like a normal dude with grounded thoughts.
I'm also pro-Senior. Do we seriously think Senior and Gasia would ever be friends in real life if they didn’t work together? Of course not. They have zero in common. That's why it looks awkward and uncomfortable on TV when they have to engage with each other, because it genuinely is.
You nailed it Richard. Are there any more stiff torsos than Constipation Man and Senior with his ill fitting suits? Senior looks like he’s holding his breath, perhaps so he can squeeze into those tight jackets. Neither can hold a conversation. Both get that pained look in the eyes ready to move on. Sad news regarding Joe Lieberman, but I must say the best impression I ever heard of him was by that far right wing lunatic Michael Weiner when he was at KSFO. He nailed it every time and had me laughing uncontrollably.
All of the fake chitchat is because of gasia. It’s very difficult to have a real conversation with someone who is completely fake. Andre is a good guy. So is Steve. So is Sal. I’ve worked with all of them. Gasia is a complete phony. That’s why Mike hated her. And that’s why Frank hated her. All she wants to do is be on tv. Trust me I e seen it first hand OVER AND OVER.
Here’s another story about basic. During one of the giants parades she was live with Sal and thought it was cute to bring orange drink and Cheeto because they are the giants colors. How do you play off something as stupid as that. She hates all sports. But instead of trying to learn about the players and be real. She thought bringing Cheetos would show that she’s a true fan. I felt so sorry for Sal that day cause SHE made him look like an idiot.
Gud Kriced, these are ordinary folks doing their ordinary jobs. I am no Angel, so I cannot point fingers. Nobody in the bay area is good at Ad-libbing, so their banter feels awkward. I think we expect NPR/PBS style smoothness from our local yokels - if they were that polished they would get those gig$. No worries, just do the job you are paid to do and let the cry-babys whine all the way to their pity party.
Summerville was the best adlibber in the market. Bar none. He drove producers crazy with all his uestions. But they knew he could get the job done it’s breaking news. He told all of us….. if there’s breaking news just tell me. If I screw it up that’s on me. I thought that was pretty bwdass for an anchor to say to EVERY producer he worked with.
Speaking of ktvu, what’s going on Mike Mibach’s hair tonight? It’s not just his usual strange hairdo with the part down the middle with everything combed forward. It’s the usual PLUS the hair on the right side of his head is like 2-3” higher than the left side. Looks so stupid.
Call me old fashioned but last I checked tv is still a visual medium. What type of duffus goes on air as the “face of the station” with such crazy hair? But then again his hair is a direct reflection of the man himself: it is forced, with no identity.
Gasia loves to boast about all her cooking and the recipes she makes. Listening to her talk about all these strange dishes she makes and I can’t help but think about all the farts that must be marinating on her anchor chair.
If Rich is correct that ktvu is cheap and their budget is in a perpetual state of reduction, then it's entirely likely they haven't upgraded the anchors chair in years if not longer. This would mean Gasia farts from the past decade or more are still marinating in that same chair.
Re: Aponte, anyone who believes Mike Mibach should be paraded out each night as the face of the station should automatically be disqualified from ever being a news director. I’d have had so much more respect for Aponte if one of her first actions after becoming ND was to reverse Eikel’s brainless decision to make Mibach the face of the station. Instead, Aponte chose to double down on Mibach, showing just how inept she is. If Mellynda Hartel was remotely competent and actually cared about the success of the station, she’d acknowledge the Aponte experiment hasn’t worked and promote Darren Zulberti to ND immediately. But I guess that’d require her to show up to work which is a pipe dream in and of itself. As many say, “Last time we saw Hartel was on the side of a milk carton.”

@8:24, KNBR 's Murph has a chair that straight up smells like homemade shit and his microphone stinks of bad breath. The next group that comes in has to spray everything down.
this makes sense. Sometimes I watch the knbr livestream and notice that at 10 am when they switch from Murph & Marcus to Papa & Lund the camera goes black for a few minutes after Murph stands up from his seat to exit. The next thing you know the camera comes back on an Lund is sitting at the same seat. That's the only time I ever see them turn their camera off to black. I'm guessing that's when they clean down the seat and mic.
