Audacy Bankruptcy --KCBS -"The Game" More Layoffs Coming

14 comments:

  1. KCBS may be on the ropes, but “Traffic and Weather Together” pays big dividends.
When will Cumulus finish off the AssHats at KNBR? Talk about Lame hosts! There is NO WAY Murph, Copes, Tolbert, Lump and Mr Potato can be earning their pay. I seriously Doubt kars4kids generates much revenue for Cumulus.
Anyway, Audacy is the tip o the iceberg, Cumulus is next. Adios middling mind mush!

  2. Man, that's really sad about Audacy. As a listener of 95.7, I honestly hope it doesn't affect the weekday shows on 95.7. Damon Bruce getting let go was a big blow to the station. Damon is doing well on Youtube, but it's still unfortunate he's not on the radio anymore.

I think their weekend shows already got cut. 95.7 used to have local weekend shows, but I think those programs were cut, along with the weeknight show 95.7 also used to have, when Damon and Ratto were let go.

You can make a case, most of 95.7's weekday lineup has people of prominence. Bonta Hill, who also is the host of Warriors TV pre and postgame, Joe Shasky, Guru, and Dibs. You can also make a case for Willard, and even Steiny to some extent.

But yes, it's sad that it's come down to this... Rich, do you think there will be a turnaround in radio at some point, or will companies like Audacy or Cumulus will find other revenue streams to help make money for the company?

    1. Guru has a good personality and has decent points regarding basketball, but his knowledge and his takes on other sports are weak.

  3. Not sure if they will mess with the 95.7 lineup all that much as the ratings for all have been pretty good over the last 6 months and are improving. Moving the studio I am sure saved some money, and any layoffs would probably unfortunately be behind the scenes. I was hoping they would bring on some new personalities like FP on a more permanent basis but it isn't looking good for that.

  6. I tweeted Pat Thurston about it, and she says she learned about it via a tweet. Nothing from KCBS to their staff. She thinks it will free up some money but is knocking on wood right now.

  7. On a different topic, Rich, engaged your KPIX spies to find out what's happened to Brian Hackney. I know you don't like him, but he's been gone a lot longer than other people you've written about for being MIA. Pretend he has nice breasts.

    1. Rich doesn’t have to like Brian Hackney but at least we ought the right to know what’s going on with him if anyone at PIX knows. My projection is that he isn’t returning back anytime soon.

  9. It's over. To all staff within Audacity, polish up the resume and get ready to work outside the 'radio' business. David Field ran his daddies business into the ground and the accountants (which own 80%) of the company will dictate next moves......and I will bet David Field will not be in charge, and there will be many, many employees that will be told they no longer have a job.

    1. The first guy without a job when Audacy emerges from Chapter 13 will be Big Dave. The new owners won’t keep the guy who sank the ship!

    2. Rich... Any truth to the rumor that with Audacy's announcement about filing for bankruptcy & going through a "restructuring" that Sarah & Vinnie from the Alice 97.3 morning show are going to be let go for financial reasons? I think you are so right. Radio is a dying medium & when the cuts come they will be swift & callous with no remorse.
