Unintentional Laughter: KNBR Brings Back "Fitz and Brooks" --More Copes ...

20 comments:

  1. Fitz back stabbed Greg Papa to get that job and told lies about Greg to get the Warriors Play-By-Play guy. Also, the talk around town is people feel sorry for Little Bob because his wife sadly passed away from cancer. Karma Fitz?

  2. Spot on about the arrogant midget. If not for Lacob & Curry he'd be a rodeo clown, or in a Velcro suit stuck to a wall in some dive bar in Spokane.

  3. These 2 guys are the reason I stopped listening to sports-talk radio years ago. I don't miss it at all. And Fitz is the reason I no longer watch Warrior games until the playoffs when they're on national networks.

Unlike Azibuike, Fitz is quite knowledgeable of the overall game itself and provides great analysis. If there's any reason to NOT watch the Warriors, it should be due to Klay Thompson's persistent lack of effort and Kerr's pathetic failure to make in-game adjustments.

  4. Those guys came on like they had gone out on top and were doing everyone a favor. Even more annoying and arrogant than I remember.

  5. ZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz So boring talking about dumb sports talk. Who cares? The world is in the throes of fascism, and you want to listen to some guys argue about who dribbles a ball better?

    1. @9:58- Sports is not for you. Don't shame the rest of us for liking and being interested in sports

    2. OTIS III -- You are a child who probably likes superhero movies too.

  6. Fitz and Brooks were the beginning of the end for KNBR. Can't stand either one. Fitz is so full of himself. Tolbert was good with Ralph, but now you can't listen to that garbage. TT is just dead air and his partner, the new boss, doesn't need to kiss is ass! No real sports radio around here. Maybe Farhan can take over and turn KNBR into a winner like he did the Giants. LOL

    1. @10:16- Fitz and Brooks were a staple for a number of years, but what kind of changed things for them, at least for me, was when they moved Damon Bruce to 1050 in their timeslot at the time. I liked Fitz and Brooks, but Damon had a better show and his 1050 show was appointment radio in the Noon-3 hours during his 1050 days.

Then what also kind of changed things for Fitz and Brooks too, was when 95.7 joined the party and became a sports talk radio station, giving people here in the Bay Area another local sports talk radio option in the Noon to 3 hours. I think Greg Papa was on middays on 95.7 for most of those years when Fitz and Brooks were on from Noon to 3 (2012, 2013 to 2019).

But yes, I liked Fitz and Brooks, but once better options became available during their timeslot whether it was Damon Bruce and when 95.7 had Greg Papa on in those hours, Fitz and Brooks kind of became the 3rd best option for Bay Area sports talk radio in the Noon to 3 hours.

    2. @10:16- I kind of agree on Tolbert. Yeah, he was great with Ralph, but it seems like ever since then, Tolbert has been good, but not as good as when he was with Ralph. Listening to Tolbert now, he's good talking sports, but a lot of times Tolbert can go off on non-sports tangents and it at times can become grabass radio. LOL.

Sometimes I feel Tolbert may not need the radio show anymore. I'm sure Tolbert is paid, and of course he still has the Warriors gig calling Warriors home games on the radio with Tim Roye.

Copes is cool. Rich gives him a hard time which I feel is unfair, but I talk to Copes on the KNBR Youtube chat whenever he gets a chance to interact with the chat. Copes is a good dude, and I think knows he has a big job ahead of him trying to help turn around KNBR. I hope the best for him! It would be great if he could bring back Rod Brooks and maybe Damon Bruce, even though Damon is cool doing Youtube right now.

    3. Great takes Otis III. You have a way of articulating your points and I appreciate that. Love or hate guys like Fitzgerald or Papa, but they know their sports. Maybe a bit detailed or arrogant for some, but I appreciate learning from their analysis, terminology, and the ins and outs

    4. @5:46- Thank you for the kind words, I appreciate it!... Agreed on Greg Papa and Fitz.

Greg Papa is still one of the best NFL radio play-by-play guys out there. Papa switched teams, and you can't even tell the difference listening to him. Sounds like he's been calling Niner games for years, even though yeah, you can't help but think about his time calling Raider games for many years when you hear him call Niners games. LOL. The guy knows the game. Yeah, he can be a bit too technical for people who may know the ins and outs of football like that, but Greg Papa does his HW. Say what you want about his Niners TD call, but the Niners upgraded when they switched from Ted Robinson to Greg Papa for the Niners radio play-by-play gig. Ted Robinson wasn't bad, and at least for him, he had the Jim Harbaugh era when he called Niner games, but I think overall, Ted Robinson is better calling MLB games and college football and college basketball games on Pac-12 Network, and doing broadcasts in the Olympics.

On a side note, I wish the Giants could bring Ted Robinson back, but it sounds like they probably won't be doing that. It would make sense since Jon Miller takes time off during the season, and Dave Flemming at times has to take time off calling Giants games, for his ESPN duties. Kuip pretty much mainly does home games now. Ted Robinson would fit right in and be able to fill in in a pinch for Jon Miller, Flemming, or Kuip, but maybe he wants to get paid? But yes, back to Greg Papa, agreed, the guy does know his stuff.

    5. @5:46- Regarding Fitz, Fitz is still one of the best NBA TV play-by-play guys out there. Some of these announcers for other NBA teams are a rough listen, and quite frankly, a lot of them suck. It's painful watching games on NBATV and you hear these announcers for other teams and it's like man, these announcers are terrible. I'd rather listen to Fitz and Kelenna!

Even some of the national TV play-by-play announcers are terrible. Outside of Kevin Harlan, Mike Breen, and Brian Anderson, most of the national TV play-by-play announcers aren't all that good either, even the new ones coming up. Makes me appreciate Fitz that much more. At least Fitz is prepared every game and will mention something informative during Warriors TV broadcasts. I know not everyone likes Fitz because of his attitude, but if Fitz is good for a guy like Steph, that really speaks volumes.

Fitz could probably go national if he wanted to. I think he's mentioned he calls some NFL games on national radio. He also called some games for TNT during the pandemic in the Orlando Bubble. He's even called games in the Olympics. Fitz is a good and knowledgeable broadcaster.

I hope Fitz stays on with the Warriors, even though it sounds like he will stay on as long as Steph is here, as Steph is a fan of Fitz. I'm scared to think who Fitz's replacement could be once he's done with the Warriors. I hope it's not Kevin Danna, the Santa Cruz Warriors broadcaster. I think he fills in for Tim Roye when he's out. Seems like the Warriors may be grooming Kevin Danna to take over for Fitz or Tim Roye when they're done calling Warrior games. Kevin Danna is awful, I'm sorry, but he just seems minor league.

But yes, hopefully Fitz stays on with the Warriors.

  7. Adam Copeland is in way over his head and not qualified for the position. He is so bright by thinking outside the box and bringing back retreads that nobody liked. SMH.

  8. I'd take Fitz and Brooks for 21 minutes any day over your aimless 21-minute screed here, Rich. I adjust the playback speed to double time and this is still impossible to get through. Try writing a script. The stream of consciousness thing is not working. Looking forward to not seeing this posted.

  9. I worked at KNBR and saw first hand how Fitz brown nosed sleazy GM Tony Salvador to get his nighttime slot. Salvador was so taken w Fitz because Fitzie’s dad took him out to his private club to play golf and give Tony glowing reports. Salvador tried to get Fitz in as the Warriors’ radio play by play guy, but at the time the Warriors were still owned by Jim Fitzgerald, ( no relation to Bob Fitzgerald,) and they wouldn’t hire him. When the abominable idiot Chris Cohan took over the Warriors,
( ruining them for over a decade and a half,) they hired Fitz to replace Papa on TV when Greg’s contract was up. What got Fitz in the door however, was a low-life ‘agent’ named Bill Mandell, who convinced Cohan’s hatchet man Robbie Rowell to hire Fitz for 1/2 of what they paid Greg. Now Warrior fans have been subject to Fritz’s annoying, condescending homerish style for over 25 years. There are few local NBA fans who like listening to Fitz, and there are even fewer who work in broadcasting who have much respect for him. Unfortunately in the broadcasting biz, this kind of thing happens all too often; an annoying, cloying, insincere person getting the big break.
