Why would SFGate report on a Bay Area police officer killed in the line of duty when they have more important stories to publish, such as their latest iteration of the top 10 burritos in the Bay Area, the best boba tea in the East Bay and a detailed write up about a house in the Mission that was recently painted purple? Oh, and dare I forget their journalistic masterpiece about what's in and what's out when it comes to tech bro fashion. You can't make this up.
As an FYI, The San Francisco Chronicle is not the same as SFGate. They split into 2 separate companies with separate newsrooms and editorial staffs about 5 years ago.
When you website editor is in Utah, their assistant is in Vegas, their copy writer in Bakersfield, and the burrito guide is in Arizona, what do you expect? Lightspeed additions to yesterdays sports scores? There is a reason it is called “The Comicle” by those in the know.
And zero mention of the subsequent crash across the bay that injured 4 SFPD officers, which other media outlets are reporting was related to the OPD shooting death. But fear not, Sfgate has the following clickbait headline above the fold, 'The best Bay Area restaurant dishes SFGATE staff ate in 2023.'
Here's a clue: In the first four hours after such an event, cops haven't released much more information than that a cop or anyone else was shot and killed. There isn't any substance about name, situation, suspects etc. for at least that long
What do you expect? SFGate is a pathetic rag operated by a bunch of 20-something and millennial wannabe social media influencers who know absolutely nothing about the Bay Area. Most are obsessed with their own individual follower counts and finding ways to grow their individual “brands.”
As far as website content, most decisions as to what to publish on the website are based on popularity contests and who’s fucking and sucking who. The hallmarks of their website include plagiarism and various blatant violations of every journalistic standard imaginable.
I should know. I worked there and left as it began to go down the toilet. No one expected them to spiral into the abyss as quickly as they did, yet here we are.

Equally disappointing - local newscasts leading with weather related stories as opposed to officer killed in the line of duty. SMH
