I worked with Frank for years. He was and is an empty suit who had to have most of the non-local news explained to him. Often with hand puppets. And he was and is sanctimonious as hell to boot. He's one of these "I'm a white guy making the world safe for peoples of color; do you like my cape?" types.
No matter what, Frank done enough ruin his image as an anchor and retirement life. No excuse when KTVU has the highest ratings with Dennis Richmond, Frank and his bad behavior ruin it all. Blame himself just no excuse. And doubt anyone will hire him as a main anchor on tv.
FYI, another ex KPIX anchor VDLC is doing that dirty game again. Using some medical or whatever excuse to find love. I cannot believe any station will hire an anchor with issues
As I recall, you have described frank's ongoing affair with an intern at ktvu as well as other possible affairs with ktvu staff. He seems to have a long history of problematic behavior as well as longstanding issues with using various chemicals. His issues blew up in the last few years, but that volcano was long in coming. His downfall does not appear to be because of recent stress; his stress is self-inflicted. His greatest weakness is his blame of others and lack of accountability for his own actions.
I've been reading this blog since 2011 and I do care about what you have to say about Frank Somerville -- however, I don't care so much that I'm willing to slog through your 25-minute tangent-ridden stream-of-consciousness video. I liked the site a lot better when I could read through it in a matter of minutes.
There is some irony in the fact that someone who presents as a "media critic" can turn around and post these unrehearsed, unstructured, meandering screeds with poor framing, poor background, poor lighting... it's like you aren't even making an effort. Remember, your audience is MEDIA people and we have a low tolerance for poorly produced media. No offense intended, I respect you and your viewpoints. Please know that I will peruse the text you publish, but I'm done with your videos.
I echo your sentiment entirely. No if, and, or but about it. I’ve watched two of Rich’s YouTube videos, and while I won’t completely abandon him, I’ll reserve my time and efforts for his written posts only.
Some Guy, I've enjoyed your comments from the inside, Kgo radio for instance, for whom you worked apparently. But Rich is read (seen) by more non media people than those in it. Obviously we don't care what his background looks like or lighting. His videos posted here on his blog are a welcome addition and though some entries may be on the long side the content of what's said is more in depth and insightful than just his written blog alone.

ReplyDeleteAnd you should have taken a course in spelling.
@12:57: Way to kick a man when he's down. Stay classy.
Delete@8:34 Agreed; 12:57 is classless

DeleteFrank is like a well used chew toy that has seen better days, but you keep it around for nostalgic reflection.
