Disney/ABC PC Run Amok: Bans Certain Words; KGO Mush; Julian Glover Alert; Giants' Broadcasters "On Assignment" Crap in Full Bloom; "Building a Better BS"; Sunday Coffee

SUNDAY COFFEE

Over at KGO-TV (ABC7), a NEW policy: per the Disney directive to its O and O's (TV stations),:

*NO more use of mug shots

*Banning of the words, "inmate" and "prison."

I'll have more about this PC run amok, first excuse me while I go bury my head in disbelief.

*I suppose it would have been against the law for the Giants' broadcasters to simply say, "Dave Flemming is in Rochester covering the PGA championship for ESPN", but OH NO, "he's on assignment,"

Another GIMMICKY pile of doo-doo thrown at some-of-you gullible fans who are treated like little school children.

Nowhere else, no big market especially is this audio purgatory allowed to happen other than your SF Giants radio band of misfits.

*SPEAKING of Circle7, a most powerful reporter who also acts as the unofficial liason of PC central: Julian Glover, a guy who checks all the woken boxes and has you on his adar if you dare misbehave, Disney pupil.

*I WILL CONTINUE to CALL OUT BS like "Building a Better Bay Area" and the SHAM that yr is and is allowed to take place on ABC7 "news" every day.

Guess what? I'm a LIBERAL. But I'm also a believer in being real and transprent and not taking part in some contrived/orchestrated corporate wonks who use their propaganda and PC crappola on citizens of the world.

Shame on you, ABC7 and other Disney stations.

  1. I no longer watch Ch 7 (and I used to work there, when it was good) and this is why.

  2. This is Frank Somerville. I completely disagree with not showing mugshots. My mugshot should have been seen. I was totally guilty. There was no excuse. I was a danger on the road. Period. I can only hope that at some point people can forgive me. I've done all the courses. I've paid all the fines. I've dealt with the humiliation that my daughters feel. But I am responsible. I did it. And I have no issue with my mugshot being shown. It should be. Maybe it could be a reminder to others not to drink and drive. I sure as hell never will again. I'm disgusted with myself. But I'll never make that mistake again.

  5. Both Jon Miller and Duane Kuiper have said that Dave Flemming is covering the PGA this weekend, they're not trying to deceive anybody.

  6. This move towards revisionist history and softening of who people are is sickening. If you the crime, do the time. Part of that is having a label like ex-con, skel and felon. If you were arrested, you got a mug shot. You shouldn't have done what you did. And here we are canonizing a shoplifter who was killed committing a crime. Why did you steal then? This post is right on, Lieberman. As Aunt Esther said on Sanford and Son, "The truth shall set you free!" And speaking of revisionist history, how about the Giants saying their announcers are on assignment when they're not on the job? Just suck it up and say what it is.

  7. Rich... FWIW, at some point during Tuesday's radio broadcast against the Phillies, Miller did say on the air that Flemming was out this week covering the PGA championship. There have also been times during the Post-Game Wrap when he or Kuiper or even Flemming himself will say where and why one or the others will be out for the next week or series. Beyond that, I agree with most of your readers that "on assignment" is a friendly wink to the audience and not worth getting upset over.

  8. Since the beginning of 2023 Julian Glover has been co-anchoring ABC 7 News at 11 am weekdays alongside Kristen Sze. Since starting at Channel 7 in Nov 2019 Julian Glover has had quite a meteoric rise at KGO 7. He started out as a GA Reporter then after George Floyd's death he was exclusively promoted by ABC 7 News to be their Bay Area Race & Social Justice Reporter-anything to do with supposed racial discrimination, police misconduct or any social justice causes Julian Glover was their Primary reporter. Now that a lot of the "supposed" Race & Social issues have quieted down, since the beginning of 2023 Julian Glover was promoted to be co-anchor alongside Kristen Sze for their Monday-Friday 11 am news edition. Rich as you aptly said in 3 & a half years Julian Glover has become a powerful presence at Circle 7 News due to being the unofficial liaison of PC Central along with checking all the Woke boxes. 9. If an inmate gets stabbed in San Quentin Prison, how would the news broadcast explain it? Convict on a stay in the SQ Marin Resort was stabbed by a fellow convict who might have been quilty of a possible crime pending an appeal?

    1. Disney isn’t going to self destruct. Not going out of business that’s for sure.

    2. WOKE is a word with virtually 979 meanings, none of which make any sense. Apparently it is an expression of outrage for any person with a limited vocabulary. It’s time these folks woke-up to learn we are in the year 2023.

  13. "Building A Better Bay Area" is as dumb a slogan as "MAGA: Make America Great Again". Let's see someone cut a promo for BABBA with used needles in the street, homeless encampments, freeway shootings, sideshows, drug overdoses & bums crapping in the street. Not so great a Bay Area huh?

  15. We will no longer be using the words inmate or prison, we will now use the words forced housed person and forced housed facility, also mug shots will no longer be used due to changing identities and the possibility of misgendering however we will still be using Cop instead of police officer with a photo and identification when possible.

  17. Man, Rich, I grew up in a household that was liberal. As I was growing up as a young boy back in the late 50s and 60s, my parents always told me to never say what people now refer to as the "N" word. And this was told to me by southern parents way back before the civil rights amendment! So that was how I was raised. However, today's liberals are not your parents' liberals, not by a longshot. So I would now describe myself as a conservative leaning moderate. While I support gay rights, and equal opportunity, that does not mean I support affirmative action, not by a longshot. I do support abortion though, but I will always remember what George Carlin, the famous comedian once said right at the beginning of his Carnegie Hall performance. He walked out on stage, and the first thing he said was "Did you ever notice that women who are against abortion, are women you wouldn't want to f#$k anyway?" While I do agree with you about Julian Glover, and my wife who is Asian really likes his voice, I do not like that he is referred to as the "race reporter". I mean, do we really need someone with that title? Thanks for all you do, Rich!

  18. Before you "righties" call out the wokeness of it all, you have to answer to the equally-ludicrous pieces of legislation that people like DeSantis is signing...via executive order...on limitations what you can and can't teach in schools, how to label bathrooms, forcing "Christian values" (LOL!) onto the masses...and other Christian-Sharia Law decrees.

Our nation is TRULY going to hell with all of this "woke" and "Christian Sharia Law" bullshit.

  19. It's much more obvious in 2023 but nothing new, when I was a flying traffic reporter it was a sin to say "fatal accident (Major injury crash), "suicide," and "jumper" among others. BTW, if ABC starts banning words will DeSantis be Disney's friend?

  20. John Miller said during one of this week's games that they say "on assignment" because frankly, it's not our business or concern where a Giants broadcaster is if not doing the Giants game. And I agree. Though they did also mention later that Flemming was covering the PGA.

Here's the other element to this. Do you really expect the Giants and KNBR to promote an event not related to them? If Tolbert has to leave his KNBR show early, or doesn't do a show because of his Warriors radio gig, do you expect Copeland or anyone else at KNBR to say, "Tom's not here because he's doing the Warriors game over on 95.7 The Game?." Of course not.
