Enemy #1 at Woeful KCBS: The Non-Union Sports PM Driver, Matt Pittman; KRON Egg Shells; GM Rose Murky Status; Circle7 Ashley Factoid; Allie Rasmus/KTVU Spring Brighter; Finney/900 Front Raiser Update; Monday Coffee

MONDAY COFFEE:

Bad enough the new PM drive sports anchor is dreck personified; moreover, KCBS brass hired the guy and he's not even in the union, (Sag/Aftra).

Matt Pittman's hire is mainly due to his position as Warriors' PA announcer; he also got the sports gig as the director of social media for KCBS.

Pittman isn't liked at KCBS for his want to inject his own political opinion into almost every sports report. Plus, his union status, (or lack thereoff) is a MAJOR bone of contention at the radio station.

Pittman's sports reports are slighty worthy of awful. Other than that, he's fine.

He's another brain-dead hire by Jenny Seelig and eternal schmucko, Don Bastida.

*KRON workplace on stress/anxiety high: Ken Wayne, Grant Lodes, and a few other notables have expiring contracts and no one is expecting a raise. In fact, some wonk speculated "someone big" would be shown the door.

Nexstar isn't exactly chirping sweet thoughts these days.

A person wo might be on the HIT LIST too? GM Jim Rose.

Rose has been hanging out in his office a lot lately so the chatter might have legs.

*Dan Ashley, don't be so damn pissed off about your contract extension talk.

It's news, buddy, and it's an industry item because you're a Bay Area news veteran and that fact alone makes it all the more newsworthy.

Be happy there's people out there who CARE about your status. Don't crap on people who are merely trying to get it right.

It could be worse, Danno, you could be an anchor at KCBS.

*Allie Rasmus just got an extension at KTVU in the tune of two years and a mutual option.

The deal is roughly $500K, $250K a year plus benefits.

*SECOND-HIGHEST paid anchor at Circle7 and he's probably due for a RAISE: Consumer Anchor, Michael Finney.

    2. Allie is the most versatile talent at KTVU. They would have been fools to let her go. She anchors, does field reporting,
      weather and traffic too.......

    3. Good for her I thought TV news didn’t pay anyone but the “core 4” well anymore

    4. I really like Allie Rasmus and I've also seen/heard her in all the various on-air news functions as 1:57pm mentioned.
Off-topic; On air right now, a surprise to me, is Donchey and Cook both anchoring-together the 5 pm KPIX news (sitting, not standing, btw).

  3. Wouldn't it be funny if Frank Somerville came in and took Ken Wayne's spot at KRON 4?? We might have another local stabbing cause célébre on our hands. Thanks Pam. lol

  4. Sports reports on KCBS aren't anything but a 90 second time filler with no real news. Doesn't matter who is at the "sports desk"

  5. If the new sports guy's position at KCBS is covered by the union and he refuses to pay the modest dues (and misses out on an amazingly good health plan) then his union coworkers should slow work him and only provide the absolute minimum required when interacting with him. You don't make it clear if he's a scab or if this the station's efforts to save a few bucks paying matching funds for the health plan and the union pension.

  6. As a long time union member, I hope for Mr Pittman’s sake that he will join organized labor. Having a union negotiated contract is the best path to getting a living wage.

How come all the KRON people aren't working in the studio? They redoing it again?

  10. THIS person does not care about Ashley's contract status. He's a minimally-talented newsreader, not God. In Europe they call them presenters, because that's what they are. They're not journalists and don't have the skills. They have haircuts.

Basically, they're failed actors, nothing more.

  11. I turned on KNBR to listen to a Giants-Tigers game the other day abd it was embarrassing. No Jon Miller, ( I gueee he doesn’t like going to Detroit anymore,) and no Dave Flemming because he was “ on assignment,” meaning he was adding to his Giants’ salary with a weekend network gig. So instead they had some putz named Joe Ratso or Ruzzo or something. Ratso sounded like he’d either been doing minor league baseball or has been doing college radio. Alongside him was the useless tool, former Giant FP Santangelo. Listening to Santangelo is like hearing some stupid frat boy on the radio. It’s all about beer and babes. This guy is well past 50 but still acts like he’s 25. I don’t know who is responsible for putting this travesty on the air, whether it’s Larry Baer or the ‘brilliant’ KNBR management. In either case, it’s a disgrace. The Giants deserve much better. I have never heard such shabby announcing of a Giants baseball game in my life. Awful!
