Another Wacky Night/Early Morn at KCBS (Again); Burns/Finch, "Uh", "That" Extravaganza; The Lights Are On But Nobody's Home; Meet Entertaining KRON Goddess, Olivia Horton, Future Star With Limitations

TUESDAY ...for starters.

JUST WHEN you think it couldn't get any worse at KCBS? It gets worse.

Worser.

Overnight Monday into early Tuesday: insufferable traffic anchor, Carolyn Burns, was her usual comically tragic. And were it not so serious, it would have been funny.

Burns, uh, was broadcasting a traffic report about a serious accident on 280: "We, uh, have that accident on 280; a car has hit a pole, fortunately the 'pole is still upright."? What about the person inside the car? Burns went on to report this four more times during the hour.

It's obvious she cares about poles, humans, though? Who knows.

Would have been good to know early on that the human inside the car was OK apparently, Burns, uh, uh, was late on "that", uh, note.

Burns, uh, uses "that" every other word. It's an awkward listen and combined with her frequent, "uhs", it gets worse. It would, uh, be, uh, I guess, too logical for the editor at the desk to tell Burns about her weird word usage but their busy on Facebook checking their aunt's holiday pies.

More lousiness early Tuesday: anchor Peter Finch, who flubs his copy every other second and sounds like an amateur. Combined with Burns, the "shit show" overnight was a doozy of a listen.

Tuesday AM drive: the antiseptic, boring and uninspiring Eric Thomas with out-of-place Margie Shafer. Thomas is simply awful and shouldn't be on morning drive and Shafer is too benign --plus a terrible interviewer--to do MDR. You have a combined double zero and the results are predictable: TERRIBLE RADIO!

Of course KCBS is a monopoly and of course in that sense, can do as it pleases with NO consequences because they have NO competition.

Yeah, KCBS killed KGO in the November ratings and swallowed up a KGO listener base that isn't into sports betting. KGO, predictably, was itself, KILLED.

*Olivia Horton is a phenomena at KRON and very much wants you all to know it. She hosts some entertainment show that has generated some light, local buzz, notably centered on Ms. Horton herself and it's perfectly logical. Horton is quite striking, in a Kardashian sorta way because, well, she just is, take a look.

I just wish Countess Horton were as extraordinary with her on-air demeanor and action in addition to her fabulous appearence and wardrobe.

The other day she pronounced the word, "marquis" as "marqeees." And did so straight into the camera. She regularly does this at least 5-6 times and it's embarrassing, even by KRON standards.

That all said, Horton is a coming STAR. She could probably land a gig in LA and make globs of money in the process because the Bay Area is not so keen on these types of visual fare but I'm rooting for Ms. Horton nonetheless.

Why? She's entertaining, for gawd's sake.

  1. You know that using that gives the appearance that they're that not that with it. You know that?

  4. Olivia is adorable but the lack of basic education is a little bizarre. The words she can't pronounce are MANY. It's part of the fun of watching the show but also very odd in this market.

    1. Surely it's no worse for the host of a TV entertainment show to mispronounce than it is for a blog "writer" to leave misspellings uncorrected and to confuse "their" with "they're": "It would ... be ... I guesss, too logical for the editor at the desk to tell Burns about her weird word usuage but their busy on Facebook ....").

    2. Lol, as if proper English usage was still relevant anymore. That's cute...

  5. Today KRON has a woman anchoring the noon who seems like she is bored. Now I am bored. It's like that SNL NPR skit - good times, good times LOL.

  6. That KRON commercial show is the absolute worst. I have seen other sales driven local shows in other markets be a least a little entertaining, but this one is just putrid. I am sure KRON is making money off it even though nobody is watching... and if somebody is watching, they won't be for long. Pure vomit.

    1. I actually like the show idea and the look of it but the host is a bit checked out and seems to ask people things they've already answered.

  7. Kinda looks like a Goldie Hawn type - she would probably be great giving election returns - or as Imus used to call them erection returns...

  9. In L.A. they don't care if you say "marquees." As long as your boobs stay taut and stiff.

  10. As a Polish-American, I really appreciated Carolyn Burns' reporting on that solo-car accident involving one of my people.

  12. Olivia Horton is a great host to the show, I’m an educated 49 year old male and she has made afternoon local shows much more entertaining for Bay Area natives, specifically for the minorities. If she mispronounces a few words, who really cares as long as you understand the content. (This blogger is just fishing off her pool to gain publicity).
