Mibach Doesn't Know How To Play Ball

I'LL BE BLUNT: even before his alleged jock talk (although multiple sources at KTVU have confirmed), I'm not a Mike Mibach fan. Don't give a damn about his personal life off the air, this is all abouat his on-air work and frankly, there's a lot to dislike.

Mibach is a lousy anchor. His smirk --whether intentional or not--is a disaster. He knows it. Mibach could have avoided all this pushback, both at KTVU and viewers alike by "playing ball." What's that? It's an industry term that means you play ball; you reach out and try to communicate with your adversaries and make ammends; maybe 86 the smirk, for one. But more, inject a new image; try to show more deference. Mibach seems like he doesn't give a damn. Arrogance is not a good virtue, Mikey, it's about as problematic as going to you car in the morning and screaming about Gasia...

Supposedly, Mikey, you're a team player but there's no team in selfishness. The numbers, Mikey, don't lie: since your debut, KTVU news ratings have plummeted. And you're at the center of the storm. You have a total disconnect with viewers and women especially. Your own staff at KTVU think you're a jerk. You don't know how to play ball. And even if you did, your news pedigree is a total ZERO.

  1. I also don't give a crap about his personal life. If he wants to engage in sexual banter with women, so be it, men will be men. But when you (allegedly) do it in your workplace more than once, it signals a lack of judgment, a lack of respect, and no fear of consequences. He has a family to support, which I'd think would be reason enough to do all possible to avoid a trip to HR's office. I have no idea how a newsroom culture works but perhaps because he's Mr. Big Bag Anchorman he feels like he calls the shots and can get away with inappropriate conduct.
So while men will be men, most men don't treat their workplace like a college bar at 1:30am.

  2. I thought it was ridiculous that he used his sons room during covid because he couldn't figure out a proper spot just totally lazy. However you're blaming the wrong guy. It's not his fault. People want Frank, not him.

    2. I agree, it was barely watchable in the kiddy room and his personal life was a bore when he brought it up, since I now live outside the bay area, I get to watch Sacramento news and overall seems pretty good, although I don't watch much of it. Neal formerly San Jose, now live from Manteca.

  3. Chris From SSF I agree with the Mibach image. I used to religiously watch KTVU at night. Now I avoid it at all costs. He just rubs me the wrong way & I can't stand how he wants to speak a millisecond after the other anchor or reporter finishes.

  6. When he finally got Frank's job ktvu ran 10 o'clock news promos with him and Julie Haener together. The way he looked at her in the commercials was so slimy. He looked like a drunk frat boy, or gross old man, oogling over a girl in a short dress with cleavage popping out.

  7. It sounds like he's let his promotion get to his head.
    Correction, heads.

  8. Miboch is a god-fearing family man. He has a family. Have you people forgotten that?

    1. God-fearing but certainly not HR-fearing.

  9. The camera will actually be on someone else and he'll make some sort of interjection or affirmation (off camera). It's totally bizarre TV news behavior.

  10. Understanding context is critical in cases like these.
On the surface, Mibach engaging in "jock talk" sounds highly unprofessional. But perhaps someone else involved in the conversation introduced the topic and he was just a willing participant. Or, maybe a colleague has a young son for whom she needs to purchase a jock strap and asked Mibach for his opinion as a former athlete.

  12. I worked with Mike, gotta say, he's one of the nicest people over there. I'm sorry to hear the ratings aren't great because he's very easy to work with and was always very kind to me. Maybe it's just a lack of chemistry.

    3. Glad you had such a great experience with him. Too bad that can’t be said for everyone else who’s worked with him or been victimized by his sexy talk.

And, no, I don’t believe that everyone is lying about him. Where there’s smoke, there’s fire.

  13. I'd rather watch Andre Senior than Mibach

    1. 2:49 is correct Andre Senior! Senior behaves like an anchor. Mibach is unwatchable. KRON has a better newscast at 10:00 pm.
