Nicco had high hopes of becomming the primary anchor at KGO--he long ago replaced the late, great Joel Bartlett.
But that never materialized and Nikko's time on the Embarcadero has ended with a Midwest detour and for him, a new beginning.

If you're a weather guy, your career opportunities are always going to be better in the midwest than California, which seems locked in an almost intractable drought.
ReplyDeleteI love the current advertising campaign for KPIX where the various weathercasters talk about all the information and how important it all is for our daily lives...in a place where it's 72 and sunny 80 percent of the time.
DeleteNowhere is weather less relevant than here, and that includes Hawaii because they get a hurricane from time to time.
Good for him. Leave the cesspool and live like a king in another state.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on landing the job in Kansas City. Mike N. is a familiar face who I'll miss seeing. Although potentially dangerous, I suspect he'll have more tornado-news to report compared to the SFBay Area.
ReplyDeleteWho?
ReplyDeleteHe can do the daily farm report.
ReplyDeleteWho is going to replace him? Better not be Frances D
ReplyDeleteWhy not? She is fabulous.
DeleteMike Nikko will be missed. Haters going to hate but he was a good weather reporter. He was just saying the other day how much more productive he was working from home. 2 1/2 less hours on the road everyday. 2 1/2 hours is the monthly commute time in KC.
ReplyDeleteGodspeed
Leaving for a smaller market was considered a demotion at one time. But not this time.
ReplyDeleteMidwest guy all the way. i always sensed on the opinion roundup segments he was uncomfortable with the liberal tint of his co anchors.
ReplyDeleteGood for him !! That's actually a pretty nice market and the air product has some personality 'game' if you will. Far more than people here might think.
ReplyDeleteHowever, NBC is Scripps...ugh ! Hands on and reinvent the wheel management...figuring out how to justify their jobs. (headache emoji here, please) Hope you asked around and know what you're dealing with. And good luck swimming upstream against Brian Busby...an institution.
Break an isobar !
Please no Frances. Does she show up for work? When she was on other channel she was rarely there. On channel 5 tonight Donchey and Yammamato were on together at 5. Why?? Is there no other pair?? Oh wait there is! Vest of luck to Mike He deserves better than SF!
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed Mike Nicco’s commentary in the weather section of the newspaper, he answered questions and educated the readers.
ReplyDeleteOur loss, KC’s gain. Missouri is the Show Me state - and Mike will be welcome. I hope he gets a nice rai$e🙏 Good luck Mike👍
Thanks for the heads up Rich
Good riddance... One of the most boring weathermen in the Bay Area. He's going to....
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Mike Nicco
ReplyDeleteWelcome Dru Tuma! Diversity and equal just broke up on the morning newscast if Dru replace Mike Nicco.
ReplyDeleteDrew replaced him in the morning a year ago, hence the demotion.
DeleteGood for him. I think his son went to college there. Lower cost of living too. Win win. I liked him
ReplyDeleteMike Nicco is an excellent weather anchor and I have liked his delivery on the morning and 11:00 am News. He reads the teleprompter well and possesses a good sense of humor, but I understand the need for a fresh start. Good luck in his new assignment.
ReplyDeleteIs he gonna be a Royals and Chiefs fan??
ReplyDeleteJim
Michigan
yup, great climate! Yuck
ReplyDeleteKCMO is a great market. I know a photog there who actually bought a house a month after moving there from a smaller market!
ReplyDeleteFollowing the footsteps of Paul Deanno, who left KPIX 3 years ago for the Mid-West also - now at NBC Chicago.
ReplyDeleteOnce upon a time, the SF market was so superior to the midwest and medium markets, but not anymore. I was traveling recently in St. Louis and Des Moines and was shocked how much better their news is than ours. We are no longer "all that," though we're so provincial we still think we are.
DeleteIf I'm not mistaken this might be going home for Mike Nicco. He is from Missouri and maybe its a promotion if he is chief meterologist. Congrats to Nicco...
ReplyDeleteCongratulating Mike Nicco for leaving the Bay Area, one of the largest and most prestigious TV markets in the country to go to a far-flung outpost such as Kansas City deserves a congrats? Seriously? That’s hardly a step forward in one’s broadcasting career. Plus, KC may be a fun town to visit, but why Nicco would choose too live in the boring middle America of KC with its miserable winters and summers and where there are no mountains, no ocean and very little diversity or culture is beyond me. He’s leaving one of the most beautiful and prestigious major urban areas in the world to go an obscure town that isn’t even a top 30 market. Bad move!
ReplyDeleteI will miss Mike Nicco. He was a large part of why I watched KGO.
ReplyDeleteMike is an excellent meteorologist, one of the best. Excellent reports. Very sorry to see him leave.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed watching Mike Nicco on the morning news and will really miss him. He brought a level of maturity to the morning team and his accurate weather broadcasts helped me start the day. Best of luck in going home and please don't forget to come back to visit the Bay Area often.
ReplyDeleteI am bawling right now! So sad to see Mike go, he is such a sweet man. My meteorologist crush. 😘
ReplyDeleteThe very best to you and your beautiful Wife Barb❣️ Stay watm & best of luck ☘️☘️☘️💚💚.
These comments are sad. San Fran people must think they’re truly better than Midwesterners. I live in KC and you couldn’t pay me enough to move to San Fran. You all should visit KC. You’ll figure out quickly what you’re missing. But please don’t move here! Such a closed mindset for people who claim to be so open minded. #truecolors
ReplyDeleteWe miss you Mike. I always wondered what was really happening when you left the morning show. What is a thunderstorm? lol
ReplyDeleteWill missed mike nicco
ReplyDeleteU were one of the best
Looked forward to your weather forecast daily
Good luck to u
I have been wondering why I haven't seen Mike Nicco. I really enjoyed watching him do the weather. He was very knowledgeable. Now I know. He's back home and happy. Good for him. He will be missed. Nobody will do the weather as well as him. Maybe Drew but I don't really like any of the others. Very boring and no energy. Good luck and we'll wished to you Mike and your family on your new endeavor
ReplyDeleteDarn I was wondering what happened to Mike Nicco! I really enjoyed his warmth & pleasant personality when delivering the weather report. I’m an eighty-two
ReplyDeleteOld gal who wishes him the best in his new venue. The Lord be with you.
