Friday Light Memory: "Creature Features" on KTVU --With Bob Wilkins

And when the lights went down in the Bay Area on a Friday/Saturday night...

  1. Bob Wilkins was good at his job - setting up B-Grade horror movies. He did not need to dress like Elvira to gain audience share. A shame he was lost to early onset Alzheimers. I wonder why we don’t have shows like Creature Features anymore? They could be gleefully wacky.

  2. Wish KTVU would bring back Creature Feature and broadcast 50+ Giants games. Those were the days! I liked how Gary Park called a game.

  3. I remember this show because my uncle used to turn tv on,turn off lights to scare me. Leave room and jump out at right moments! Relatives are great!! I laugh at it now but it was so scary to an 8-9 year old. I miss this and Twilight Zone! Bring back Rod Serling!!

  4. Broadcasters leadership of today inherited a multigenerational business model and they don't have gut instincts or authority to try new things. It's just safe business killing vanilla formats.

  5. Ron Sweed as "The Ghoul" presenting movies on KBHK-TV, Channel 44 San Francisco, California from the early 1970's. Thanks to The Ghoul, those models your parents bought for you as a child with their hard earned dollars, disappeared in a flash of smoke and a bang with a few well placed firecrackers.
    "Pluck your magic twanger Froggy!".

  7. Brings back a lot of memories for me. Creature Features was a weekend night tradition with me, my dad and brother sitting on the floor propped up by a big pillow watching Frankenstein, Godzilla, etc. Bob Wilkin's humor was sorta dry and adult, so I didn't get half the jokes, but my dad was always chuckling. RIP Bob and dad.

  8. The good ole days. Loved the Creature Features and where we lived we could also get KTXL 40 too which Bob also did his movies on.

  9. Loved Bob and his self-deprication, show depricating humor. Couldn't be beat - at least on a Saturday night. I was watching the latest version of the show on another channel - I think I liked it only because it did the same thing as bob. Occassionally - they would have an interesting guest ( the newer version) but so did Bob. I think the guests were usually more interesting than the movies.

  10. I always enjoyed Creature Features, combination of a great B movie and Bob Wilkins. But...I was stuck in a hotel room solo on a Saturday night and I happened to catch "Elvira" back in the early '80's. She blew every other scary movie host out of the water with her act! Funny, sexy, witty, and a pretty fair spook movie to boot.
