The Pathetic Bay Area Media Has Reached New Low; KTVU, KPIX, KCBS Lead the Pack; Circle7 Too

JUST PLAIN PATHETIC

I GUESS MISERY has company--Julie Haener called in sick---again!--on Sunday night. This isn't anything to do with August vacation (I'n told by KTVU moles) and now Andre Senior has been out an extended time--almost three weeks MIA from the morning news--does anyone at KTVU give a crap anymore? Apparently not.

Who's minding the store? Never mind.

"We're hopeless," a KTVU senior staffer told me and never mind August doldrums, the entire pathetic mess has been a constant at The Firm's Bay Area outpost for weeks and months now.

Amber Eikel, the embattled ND whose own staff has ZERO confidence in, is on notice from the corporate bigwigs that if things don't improve, she might as well go apartment hunting in El Paso.

MORE PATHETIC at KPIX

The awful "Lt" Jessica Burch was, again, positioned to the news anchor desk because PIX couldn't find a capable body to fill in at the morning dreck patrol. I don't know what's WORSE, Burch's anchoring or PIX's news presentation at 7AM where the only people watching are the ghosts of Wendy Tokuda.

*KCBS, the whack-a-mole anchor radio outfit with NO ONE in control. No one. No one cares. NO leadership. NO direction. No planning for the future. Nothing. It's apparent this once-great radio news station has all the serenity of a Foster City Chevron station!

What a TOTAL ABOMINATION.

Oh, but wait, you asked me, "is there more, Rich?"

*At KGO, Circle7 on-air anchors were (off-screen) singing silently to themselves, disco songs while the rudderless morning morons read the news. Is this Building a Better Bay Area, I ask? What a pathetic, HORRIFIC, un-professional band of misfits who have denigrated and INFECTED the seats that once housed the likes of Van Amburg, Jan Carson, Don Sanchez and Pete Gidding's second wife!

DISGUST, DISMAY, it's more than that, a Bay Area media assessment that gets worse and worser by the day. And yes, again!, A TOTAL ABOMINATION!

  1. It's supposed to get smoky in the bay area today...I'm sure the local stations will be all over this none eventful story. Where is Smokey Bear when we need him?

    1. They'll be interviewing people at Taco Bell in Alviso about the bad air,

    2. So you thought that persistent bad air quality and smoke couldn't harm your lungs? See Ann Heche.

  2. You are right KTVU has management issues, Elaine left when the executive doesn’t give a crap, Leslie left with management issues. We know both is related to Dennis. Now, Julie…. When Julie took months off due to surgery, KTVU want her to leave. Rumor said it, Heather will take over, never know maybe Gasia will be the choice forcing Mike blood pressure to increase up.

    1. Gasia is still my favorite person to watch on KTVU. I know she is goofy in the morning, but she was a serious anchor and reporter when she worked during the day and early evening.

I also want her to drive Mike Mibach crazy. Mibach has a stick up his anus.

  3. It’s more of the same every day. And it’s only gonna get worse. Our local media is pathetic. Good luck trying to find a bright spot amid the dreck Rich!

  4. I work at KTVU and some of my co-workers have made a good point about Julie Haener's continued absence and her calling in sick most of the time. We all know she has no more vacation time remaining, so she's almost certainly going unpaid. But remember, she makes just north of 500k per year, so even if she decides to show up to work only twice per week, she's still taking home $200,000 per year. A part of me says shame on her, but the other part of me says good for her for being able to finagle that arrangement. The rest of us here are making peanuts and being told our salaries will likely be reduced due to 'budget constraints.'

    1. Quiet quitting, a new workplace trend taking off on TikTok, has workers setting out to establish clear work-life boundaries to reduce stress — but without actually being taken off of the company payroll...

  5. What's the point of tuning into ANY station when the same lies are repeated day in and day out? You want ratings? Replay some grainy VHS 1980's Aerobicise videos. Toss in some Don Lapre and Tom Vu infomercials.

  6. Let’s be honest, half of all Americans have an IQ of less than 100, which explains the failure to remember last week, last year, last decade. Mediocrity, not excellence, is the rule. Rather than trying to educate and uplift their audiences (local TV and Radio), they go the cheap, sneak it by ‘em, route. Unsurprisingly, we get “good enough” rather than attempts at excellence. Eventually, rather than scream in frustration, we need to learn to laugh at the amateurism and smile when they get it right. Nobody is perfect, but isn’t that a good goal to shoot for? Just TRY !!

  7. Captain Obvious here: It's not going to get better. If anything, it will get worse. The outlets should focus more on COVID-19. It creates a lot of fear and a lot of attention. None of the outlets care that it's a non-issue in many markets. They want to see more people wearing masks outdoors in open spaces. Get real people. Bob Wachter and Peter Chin Not So Well Hung don't control you. This has got to be the worst media market in the nation, with no hopes of improving.

  8. Morning, noon, and night all of them are bad. Talk about the same thing over and over never anything new. Stinks.

  9. Was the LT co anchoring the desk during the 6 or 7 o'clock hour Monday? I viewed the first 15 min of the 5am broadcast and it was Gianna double duty as anchor and traffic. Note to KPIX: Having your news anchors stand up on certain segments is not a good look for Gianna. She deserves better.

  10. Look the LT didn’t sign up
To be an anchor but she’s taking it on. Too many haters here. It’s SF. Not NY, Chicago or LA. SF is a small town. Ours newscasters are small town tv personalities.

  11. And speaking of ktvu: Julie Haener has called in sick AGAIN tonight. This time Claudine Wong has to pick up the slack. Rich, when is this insanity going to end? Is she asking purposely provoking them to fire her so she could turn around and sue for age discrimination?

    1. Speaking of KTVU, Andre will pull a Copeland and hire Angela Alioto to file suit against 2. Someone called him the N word, waaaaahh.

    1. Hey 606: Stop watching local news. We can see that it's caused damage of the brain.

  13. It's a very easy answer. Women have ruined the news business. At all levels, on air, managment and in the newsroom. The destruction is almost complete.

  14. Well, howdy there, Rich, and your many Internet followers.

So, if we’re talking about the state of Bay Area media, it’s abysmal. TV, radio and print media have hit rock bottom. These business models no longer work. But, if there’s an upside, it can’t possibly get any worse. Can it?

Anyway. It’s just a thought. Y’all have a good day.

  15. It keeps getting worse, so yes, it can possibly get any worse. We seem to be operating in some sort of Fahrenheit or Celsius scale when it comes to Zero, when we should actually be operating in Kelvin, as the quality keeps dropping and dropping and dropping.
