  1. First off, I absolutely love your blog! I’ve been wondering: What’s the best way to submit a story tip to you?

    1. Hi Carmen, last I heard he was in Sacramento looking for work but no shot there.

    2. That's where his (very old) roots are, but I think they've rotted at this point. Everyone knows what he is, and they wouldn't hire him to pick trash. He'll become a "consultant," although in what I'm not sure. Cheating and not getting caught perhaps?

    3. He was banging babes behind Darya's back?

  4. Hi Rich: Why is KTVU taking such a long time deciding who will replace stumbling, bumbling Bill Martin? Kyla Grogan seems like the natural choice but are there "diversity" issues involved. It seems like most new hires on all Bay Area TV News Stations are now "people of color" Also what about departing Mornings on Two weather guy Steve Paulson. Mark Tamayo seems like the natural choice to replace Paulson. Are these same "diversity" concerns also involved in hiring Paulson's replacement? Rich: I absolutely love your blog! Cary SF

  5. Bill Martin was asked to stay on because KTVU/Fox has not decided who to go fulltime but Grogan is the clear favorite, people/men especially, seem to love her...Tamayo, as I previously reported, will replace Paulson, the decision is already done, Tamayo will begin his duties at the end of the month. Diversity in Bay Area TV/Radio is ALWAYS factored, sometimes too much in my book, thanks Cary.

As long as she keeps wearing that red dress she had on yesterday! Smokin'!

    2. I'm a woman and I like her too just for the record. She's smart and my husband and I are always happy to see her on because she does a great job. Would be great to see her regularly in the evenings.

      Delete
    3. Kyla Grogan looks like she's retirement age. Have you seen to closeups?

      Delete
    4. Rosemary Orozco has a better and smoother delivery than Grogan who's voice is genuinely fingernails on a chalkboard. Rosemary is also better dressed, better coiffed, and more subtle and tasteful in her makeup ... always.

    5. Men are so easily manipulated. You'd think they be ashamed to be so obviously dumb.

  6. Hey Rich, Man, what is the deal with KPIX' Maria Medina, and her name change? She now insists on being referred to as Maria Cid Medina! It just doesn't have the same "ring" to it, as Maria Medina! If anyone would know the real scoop on this, it is Rich! Thanks Rich, for all you do!

    1. As I indicated earlier, it's personal. Might be paying respect for her brother.

    2. Alan SJ. She got married bro.....lucky bastard. She is a smoke show. Check her instagram.

      Delete
    3. I assume Cid is her married name. It was her teenage son who died a year ago suddenly.

  7. Rich, what is your opinion of the job that Gianna Franco is doing as the new coanchor of the KPIX morning news? I think she is doing a fantastic job! A couple of weeks ago, while the black guy was off, they had a substitute who I had never seen before and haven't seen since, named Devin something. Man, he and Gianna were absolutely great! They reminded me of the old John Kessler and Sydnie Kohara days!

    1. She's OK. Nothing to go crazy over, she fills a need. I actually like her better on radio, but I'll have to make a plan to watch her now that you are nuts about her.

By the way, Kessler ad Kohara were/are far superior.

  8. Hi Rich,

Do you think Eric Thomas will get a 24/7 gig at KCBS? It seems he is on in every time slot. I guess they are short staffed.

And how can we make KGO7 stop the "Building a Better Bay Area" slogan?

    Great Blog!!!

    1. Eric Thomas, no matter how many times he stumbles and mumbles, I'm afraid, is reality at KCBS. They're stuck with him.

KGO's absurd "BABBay Area" is going nowhere, it's canned, bullshit Disney propaganda --and it serves a purpose, I guess.

You the man RL! I’m curious about the fight between Papa and Lund. Any idea what it was about. I usually like Papa but Lund drives me crazy

    1. It was about imbecile Lund finally having balls to challenge his boss, for a change. That's it in a nutshell.

  10. Good afternoon. What’s your professional opinion of the talent of Vianey Ariana on nbc. I like her better than the main weather girl. Why isnt she number 1? - Silky Johnson. I live in Alameda.

    1. She's #2 because she's sort of bland in my book, I actually caught her on a Sunday morn (b/f Meet the Press) and thought she was cool but she's not ready for prime time, thanks Silky in Alameda.

  11. Any lineup changes predicted at KNBR with the new Director? I’m hopeful the Tolbert show goes down to just two hosts. - Mr Mayate, Oakland

    1. You're very keen observer because changes are coming and that's on the front burner. Especially in the morning--think addition by subtraction. And think stupid song guy.

      Delete
    2. Rich, if you're implying KNBR is about to ditch Paul McCaffrey, I find that extremely unlikely. I know you don't like him, or his Brian Murphy for that matter, but the fact of the matter is that their show still does VERY well, one of the top rated morning shows. Making changes to TKB makes sense, that show is one of their weaker performing, so that I can see. But making any big changes to M&M makes zero sense.

    1. Art: easy one there: Kokkari in SF near Front and Battery (east of KPIX and KGO) ...great atmosphere and awesome bar. In fact, can you pay my tab? (Just kidding)

    2. Kokkari sounds great Rich! I would be happy to treat you to a Ginn Fizz!

    3. Make sure you ask for Bummer & Lazarus (SF craft grape based) gin.

  17. Curious as to why Maria Medina now goes by Maria Cid Medina?

I've heard some of the other reporters/anchors address her, out of habit, as Maria Medina. They invariably correct themselves, quickly and nervously.

    1. Personal thing, she's insisted it be her official name, I'll leave it at that. And respect her for it.

    2. I think the change is in relation to her recent marriage.

      Delete
    3. She will discover that it's unwise to harpoon and cause confusion with your hard earned brand, as did Suzanne Saunders some years ago when she made the mistake of trying to suddenly twist her on-air name to Saunders Shaw.

    1. Scott Ostler, especially on Sunday.

    2. Ostler has game. He adds so much with his wit. He needs to go back to a national level. The Athletic would be perfect for him, but there are others so maybe they don't feel they need him. Keeping him local is such a waste.

  19. Great info on your blog! Do you know why KGO TV is not showing more of Dion Lim? The network only lets her work on weekends and weekday fill in spots, but she should be daily at prime time. She is the best anchor there, and not sure why we have to see so much of K Sze.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. KGO insider here (soon to become KGO outsider): Trixie hates Dion because she (Dion) has (in Trixie's eyes) been going against the grain of their "Building a better Bay Area by Kissing Black Asses" mantra. T doesn't like D's reports of Asians being beaten and mugged all the time, because 99 percent of the perpetrators in those cases are black. Or perhaps T would prefer it if D would simply say "The description was an assailant in a hoodie" and not show the video. At any rate, Dion's real journalism isn't welcome in Trixie's fantasy world.

  20. CBS This Morning with Gayle King, Anthony Mason and Tony Dukoupil recently changed their name to CBS Mornings and jettisoned Anthony Mason for Nate Burleson (a former football player). Mason was the only experienced news journalist on the show. Any comments and is this sort of change expected to happen in the bay area?

Your blog is great and makes local TV more enjoyable knowing others think (or don't) about the local news people the same way I do.

    Charles in Mountain View

    1. The new "CBS Mornings" is dreadful. This was exemplified the other day when Gayle King, Tony Dukoupil and Nate Berleson all tried to jive-dance to some jazz music at the same time. Dukoupil looked clearly and awkwardly uncomfortable, only made worse by Gayle King who was, fortunately for viewers, unable to move at all.

  21. Thanks Chuck, I think anything that can get ratings is the only criterion at CBS, journalists or not, it's had a rough time in its history, if you care. Name change is just subtle attempt to broaden its reach, if at all.

Thanks for the kind words too.

  23. Figured out what annoys me most about Joe Hughes, and wondered if you also noticed? He is trying to sound like Kate Scott - "sporty cadence guy".

    ReplyDelete

    1. Joe has a really brown nose from burying it in asses to get on the air. Obviously a hack who never got it that a true radio professional doesn't sound like they're "on the radio".

  24. What ever happened to the TV female reporter with the last name Ishimaru (think that is correct) - (she took ill) Mike in Redwood Shores.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Rich: Why is there such a discrepancy comparing the opinions of KGO's listener callers vs the average political opinion of the SF Bay Area? For example in the recent election, the Bay Area went nearly 80-20 in favor of the Governor, but the station's listener opinions seemed to go the other way, with nearly 80% predicting the Governor would lose, and that right-wing radio talk show host would become gov'r. What gives?

  26. KPIX 5 will have a 3 PM weekday local newscast, followed by the live edition of the CBS Evening News beginning September 27th. Will this have any affect on what KGO 7 broadcasts at the same time?
