I wish Libbie would spend as much time on mundane issues like failing infrastructure and crime and housing that she does on keeping a bunch of spoiled brats in Oakland. Who cares?
Not right away. I don't have any faith in EITHER party, the A's and Oakland pols. The A's are morally bankrupt under John Fisher and yahoo mouth, Dave Kaval. Instead of working on a stadium location that is REAL and legit, they instead concentrated on a PIPEDREAM that is NOT POSSIBLE....and you have also the BRAIN-DEAD city of Oakland and INCOMPETENT Libby Schaff, a farce of a mayor, no leadership whatsoever and an equally BRAIN DEAD city councile who couldn't lead an Eskimo to Alaska.
So yeah, do I think the A's are gone? Yes, maybe not Vegas, maybe Vancouver or Montreal--somewhere, just not Oakland because Oakland will fuck it up some how, some ay.
Unfortunately, the A's have it right that they need a waterfront stadium to maintain a viable franchise in Oakland. Baseball is a declining sport, but can still be successful as an event experience (see the Giants and Oracle Park). The Giants experience is only partially about Baseball, it's about the ballpark, the location, the food, the hanging out with friends etc. That can be replicated in a revived waterfront location in Oakland. It will never happen at the current Coliseum site...where, unless there are fireworks, only Baseball fans show up (which is not enough to be viable anymore).
Because Tom has an EGO and his ego has run amok. It's an affliction that causes great harm to some and they find a way to balance it out and return to form.
Tolbert used to be a good listen--now his schtick is all about beer, bets, wagers, beer --"what isssss shakin?" Tom? Not much interesting info.
Will the knew PD at KNBR get rid of the three person show? Listening to interviews is the worst. It’s like a police interrogation. Three people just firing questions at the interviewee
Good question. I make a lot of calls first. Then e-mail. Then try to get double, sometimes triple corroboration. If the source is someone that has given me accurate info in the past, then I'll probably be more flexible. But overall, depending on the tip/story, I like to verify with a couple confirmations.
As I said last Sunday, the "Building a Bet. Bay Area" is just plain BS and sanctimonious crap from Disney. The fact they parade it down your throats on a TV News station is ridiculous. Hideos.
As for Stan Bunger, now that he's about to live in France, you have to pay the bills. He did some window ads too. Whatever.
Yes, I get orgasmic listening to bad radio and high blood pressure too which is why I listen to KNBR, it's a ickness, sure thing it is, hang me and save me from the knibbers.
Hi Rich: 2 KTVU Questions 1: Kyla, Mark or Rosemary-who do you think has the inside track on replacing mumbling, stumbling Bill Martin as Channel 2's next F/T weatherperson.
2: Will any heads roll regarding Frank's Sunday night embarrassing behavior. I remember after the 2013 on-air Asiatic fiasco 3-4 people were eventually terminated. Whoever allowed Frank to work that night definitely needs to be fired.
1. Kyla by a wide margin. 2. The only head that could roll would be Frank Somerville himself, nothing firm yet and probably nothing imminent until Sept.
Thank you for answering questions. My name is Miguel and I live in Santa Clara. What is Gary Radnich up to these days? Still dreaming of his morning hits with Darya?
I think Gary is living out his sunset years with wifie in SF and making sure he has money for his wife and their kid's college fund. He calls it "overhead."
I really wanted Kari Hall to take the NY job. She’s the worst. She has no personality. Why is she on and what happened to the blonde with big boobs that used to do the weather? Cristina something?
Christina Loren is working for a rodeo-TV network last I heard..as for Kari Hall, sometimes tha5's all a station wants: no personality --I agree with you but they love her in NY.
I am a strong advocate for female spotters writers. Especially Herero because their view is a minority and sports writing needs more diversity. Can you please tell us who you believe is the best female sports writer?
In the Bay Area, not many. Occasionally, I'll read Ann Killion in the Chron but her holier-than-thou shit bores me but I do like her writing...I like Christine Brennen and Ramona Shellbourne of ESPN.com and they both do good work.
People don't like Kawakami because he acts like he's infallible. So many times, he's written something that's proven to be a bad take, but he never owns his misses. He only tries to take credit for the hits.
He also has a quick block button on his Twitter for anyone who dares disagree with him, no matter how respectful the person is about it. After writing all that, I'm now wondering if Kawakami and Rich are the same person.
This partly explains why the nation falls for Screamin A, and not Timmy K, as in two long-time national journalists who can't stand the sight of each other, even coast-to-coast.
I worked at place where the manager and his employee had an affair. the company did nothing at first then fired the manager. when he got fired she sued and got a 2M settlement then they got married and moved to San diego. Darya can get a pay day,
Was having a discussion with my sister in Hayward...Should we expect 610 to become KFRC again in our lifetimes or will it stay owned by that dead guy's Family Radio group?
I’m a huge fan! Thanks for taking the question. My is everyone up in arms about Pero and Darya? KRON is basically a closed circuit college tv station. It’s a joke. We need to hear more about Frank. What are his options?
I have noticed that since Eric Thomas left KGO, Dion Lim has been doing the weekend news solo. Do you know if that is the plan, or are they looking for someone to pair with Dion?
Why would team owners, the city, county whomever allow stadiums to be updated in Oakland so that teams might have stayed? Oakland is gentrified and will continue to become the East Bay's East Palo Alto. Letting all these teams go to other places seems ridiculous since Oakland will look like the Peninsula soon and those people have money and can afford ticket prices that the working people can't. Having no football or basketball ball teams in a city that had them for decades is wrong! Rich you have any insight? Thanks
I don't have real insight here but I kinda know the actors and players. I like the word, "pragmatic" and I also can see incompetence and ineptitude. My city (Oakland) has NO governing and a whole bunch of amateur actors like the dysfunctional mayor, LIBBY SHAFTm who is totally amateur and a waste of time. Sure, the A's are jerks and have their own idiots but they need new digs and this city doesn't know how to negotiate and play ball. This whole mess could have (and should have) been avoided years ago.
To what extent do the Bay Area on-air talents have formal agents that work for them? Are they agents in the traditional Hollywood sense or are they local lawyers/middlemen? Is there one agent in particular that is a "big wheel" in the Bay Area (Who)?
I think your question is too complicated --at least you're making it ultra complicated. Most of the talent here use their own name. Most don't have any agents. And I doubt any of them has the juice to warrant an agent's time and money. I hope that answered your question.
Rich how do you keep your cool with all the noise and craziness in the media industry? In school they used to call me 'Attitude problem Joel' juts for losing a kickball game!
Hi Rich, How about doing a blog post on Larry Elder (syndicated talk show host on 860AM from 3-6pm)? I know he's not of your political persuasion (conservative), but he is running for CA Governor and I think he has some good ideas about getting this state back on track. Can't be any worse than what we have now, anyway. Give him a chance, and I hope you will be fair and honest.
I don't do, A., a political blog. I could care less about his politics, if he's good on radio, I'd listen. But Larry Elder is boring and repetitious --like a Black Mark Levin. I didn't agree a lot with Lee Rodgers but damn did I listen.
Rich, this is Greg from the Central Richmond, San Francisco. Could we please have less weather in the mornings on 2, 3, 4, 5 and 7? It's interminable to watch the local newscasts for more than five minutes at a stretch. Thanks.
Why wouldn't Google make a play for the A's and add it to the google village in San Jose? And who in the world thought it was a good idea to bring Black Info Network to the Bay Area?
Google isn't in the baseball business...San Jose is in Giants territorial rights are/mo option. ...The BIN is too much canned content for me but they serve a purpose (I guess) and they have a lot of corporate advertising.
Man Rich, I have to admit that the Pero/Folsom thing is interesting! From what I think I have read on your most informative blog, Folsom and Pero have been living together, but what I want to know, is that I thought Folsom was married with children? So since it seems that this thing with Pero is an open secret, I am quite sure her husband knows about it, so what is the real deal there? And once again Rich, you are too cool! Thanks for what you do!
Oakland Athletics, adios?

I believe the politically correct term is 'Inuit'

DeleteUnfortunately, the A's have it right that they need a waterfront stadium to maintain a viable franchise in Oakland. DeleteWhy does tom Tolbert let his intro song play so long? There’s like thirty seconds of dead air. Also will Brooks be let go now that there’s a new boss?
ReplyDeleteBecause Tom has an EGO and his ego has run amok. It's an affliction that causes great harm to some and they find a way to balance it out and return to form.

DeleteAgree with Tark. Three voices is too much for a dialogue. KNBR copied 95.7 The Game's hours and three-person format for the afternoon drive.

ReplyDeleteWhen is abc7 news going to stop "Building a Better Bay Area"? I have quit watching their news.

I've/we've been hearing for YEARS that the old KFRC (610 AM) was going to be purchased but dead guy Family Radio apparently isn't in the mood.
