Yes, KTVU was Off-Air for Hours on Monday Morning But Nothing Fishy That I Know Of

SOMETIMES there is NO STORY. Sometimes, as the saying goes: It is what it is.

KTVU had a "massive power outage" this morning and that's the story. There was no sabotage. No back story. Nothing fishy. It wasn't business as normal at 2 Jack London Square in Oakland where KTVU broadcasts, except this morning when it went off the air.

Maybe the story, (if there is one) is WHY didn't/doesn't FOX2 have a back-up generator? That would be the logical question and thus, save a lot of immediate conspiracy theories making the rounds on an otherwise routine, mundane Monday afternoon.

Yeah, KTVU hasn't had the greatest few weeks.

  1. KGO-TV was also out this morning.

  2. I don't buy it. Gasia is on at 12PM and Mike Mibach was on at 10AM. They should have the guy with glass, Pam, Frank, Claudine, Jana as replacement. Either no staffs or make sure everything is safe to go back to work on Tuesday, masks free. There are stations running low on staffs and the station make up a technical excuse. If you didn't tell me what happened, my best guess is Frank came back AM to create a scene and the station went OFF-AIR.

  3. Fox Channel 2 came back on without sound

  4. Save conspiracy theories? Not in The Firm's DNA.

Even millions of East Bay viewers demanding transparency for the outage, including needed the channel for whatever emergency they could have had, will see it go one ear and out the other. Sigh.

  5. Thanks for the info about the power outage. This morning, I turned on my TV, which is usually connected via an Xfinity X1 box and got nothing/nada/zip. My initial channel must have been on KTVU or one of the other channels which was out. I chose a different channel and all was good again. Occasionally, I get a similar dead-TV which requires pulling the power cord out temporarily for a restart, which is more annoying but it wasn't that issue this time.

  6. KTVU has had intermittent short, minutes-long outages for weeks, at least on the antenna broadcasting side. The main station and digital subchannels (Movie, Buzzr) freeze and show no signal for one to five minutes, usually late at night. Maybe transmitter work?
