Robin Winston: La, LA, la la la; Ken Wayne; Mark Ibanez; No Bay TV in KRON Budget; Thurston/Rothmann KGO Radio Factoids; Wednesday Bullets

ROBIN WINSTON (@robin_winston_tv): There will always be someone d instagram post download - ImgInn.com

DAMN, ROBIN, just as I was only watching you on KRON! --Oh well. INSIDE JOKE: LA la la la, la la, la la.

*Robin Winston is the only reason I watch KRON, as you already know.

*If, as rumors persist, KRON is for sale and/or can land Mark Ibanez, I'll give a second look.

*Again, Ken Wayne sounded great on paper, but a KRON landing has produced zilch, in terms of status and buzz. Wayne, for all his Bay Area anchor standing, does little to stir the pot up. Not his fault, but, whatever.

*Not just Pat Thurston's contract up in March, but John Rothmann too, take note, KGO Radio listeners.

*Robin Winston, I kind of figured she would end up in LA because she fits the LA mold quite splendidly.

*It would cost Nextstar roughly $50M to pull off a 2021 version of "Bay TV" so that ain't going to happen, just sit back, sip your coffee and get used to KRON's new weather and anchor desks.

*Dan Ashley hasn't signed any new contract extension at KGO (ABC7) so the price gets higher every day.

*By the way, Frank Somerville's current deal at KTVU ends in March, 2022, not '21.

*KTVU's Morning Show has an internal issue with a weird, soft-spoken weather guy that has a few temper tantrums. He's a good guy, more important, a decent weather anchor, but his child-like outbursts has the bosses a bit shaken.

*I'll say it again: Ibanez has all the money he needs; money doesn't always buy happiness. You have a house in Napa, a bunch of kids and grandkids, priorities change. So does leverage. Give the sports seat to Ibanez and get instant buzz. There's no mystery there.

*When Thurston interviews noted LA attorney, David Katz, I always listen. You should too.

*When Duane Kuiper still talks on a crappy, screwy, LOUSY cell phone, as he STILL does on KNBR, that would have meant a PD FIRED on the spot. Somehow, Jerry Crowe gets a pass. Maybe he's got pictures.

  2. > Wayne, for all his Bay Area anchor standing...

WHAT Bay Area anchor standing?? I'm sure 99 percent of the residents of the Bay Area, 21,785,000 people, have no idea who he is.

  3. > I'll say it again: Ibanez has all the money
    > he needs...

Plus the rubber room. And the leather room. And the vinyl room. What more does a swinging guy need? An intern maybe......

  4. I never have understood the appeal of Duane Kuiper. Seems disinterested in his job, won't look anyone in the eye and offers nothing to the broadcast other than extended moments of silence. Krukow has carried him for 20+ years. I wish the Giants, with all their money, would hire a play by play man like Hank Greenwald or Lon Simmons - not that they are readily available. Kuiper is the bottom of the barrel with a 10 year playing career.

    1. Perhaps Hank's son Doug will get a permanent shot at the big show, one day.

  6. If Winston is who FTVLive was anonymously referring to as the "longtime San Francisco anchor" yesterday then FTVLive is 1) overstating things and 2) Not paying very close attention. She is absolutely NOT a longtime San Francisco anchor. I suspected it was someone obscure heading to LA because if it was a real longtime Bay Area name Scott Jones wouldn't have hidden it behind his Patron account.

  8. Ibanez instant buzz? That guy has been mailing it in for 15 years or more. He's tired. His schtick is tired. Tired of looking at him. Get some new blood and some personality in there.

  9. You keep pushing Ibanez to KRON - for whatever reason. Why would he give up the 2 minutes he is allotted on the newscast with the biggest numbers, to go to 2 minutes on the what is arguably the worst? Come on Rich - get your head out of the Kishka. Sports on local news is DEAD.
