Tuesday Potpourri; Papa and Lund Shit Show on KNBR; Tosca Factoid; Ming Dynasty at Circle7 Imploding; Lim and Daetz Hip To Sze Plotting; KRON Aggressive; KCBS Greed BS; Ronnnnnnnnnnnn Plots Cruise Control; Tolbert Tries Desperate Measures on Brooks; 415 Media Extravaganza

IN THE GOOD TIMING DEPT., I BRING YOU THIS.

April Bloomfield Closes San Francisco's Tosca Cafe

Oh Tosca, one of my favorites when I was high and mighty, once again victim of the new rules of Covid-19, it's getting uglier and no ray of hope at least until Summer, 2021.

*Papa and Lund on KNBR, the alleged sports radio show until the last half-hour when the program gets hijacked by moron hosts talking about brown showers, dildos, unfunny sex capades and overall sophomoric supreme. I don't profess to be squeamish and I'm no PC guy but the crap I hear on this show isn't funny, nor creative nor does it have anything to do with sports. I can understand the brain-dead John Lund being an advocate for this kind of crap, but Greg Papa? I thought Pop is better than this but I'm I guess I'm incorrectomundo

KNBR, as dim-witted as it is, doesn't have to resort to this type of child-like behavior. It has both the Giants and 49ers' flagship status for its tonsils to chew on every day but Papa and Lund's daily sinks- into- the- abyss is both telling and embarrassing. KNBR's PD, a people-less dork who has all the warmth of a Hayward 7-11, is the schmuck that allows this to happen and has its blessing. Greg Papa and John Lund | KNBR-AF
*I'll give KRON this: their ability to poach talent from other stations in the market ---now if they only were to 86 the schlock music and KTEL-style news packages but yeah, I know, I'm asking for the impossible.

*I'm not the only guy who thinks Claudine Wong is not ready for prime time. A few KTVU folks tell me the same: she's (Wong) sullen, no personality, no spark, no light. She should be at the United counter at SFO.

*KCBS ran 48 minutes of commercials (including weather and traffic updates) in an hour, like between 6: 30 and 7: 30 today. "News?" Why bother.

*Ming Sze was all over the KGO studios the other night, hopping from place to place and quietly thinking up her next turn to sabotage someone's career and make life miserable for those she views as threats. Which means only the lawyers get happy.

Right, Trixie?

*Ming's been wanting to screw with both Dionne Lim and Ama Daetz because both of them are younger and more talented. Daetz and Lim are aware of this, you should know.

*This is what some people think about the value of an Emmy. Circle7's Wayne Freedman, who's won about a thousand or so of them, has them in his garage. I hear rumors he occasionally melts the scraps and donate the money to his beer fund.

*If FM radio here were interesting and compelling, of course I'd write more about FM, but outside of KCSM and Jack Culp, there's no pulse on FM. Sarah and Vinnie, sure, but I don't have the time to navigate their monologues --sue me.

*Ronnnnnnnnnnnnnn's itching for more cruises which means more Ronn Owens Report, hide the children.

*Ronnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn's pissed off, I mean really pissed off, because he can't have breakfast at La Cocina and when Jan wants him out of the house, there's no place to go.

*More Johnny Lund: the facelift was executed a few years back; apparently his brain was involved in the procedure. Proof? Just give a listen. John Lund Archives - Radio Ink

More KNBR: Tom Tolbert had to call local authorities to try to expunge co-host Rodney Brooks from inside his inner edifice. Paramedics are still trying mightily hard to extract Rod but so far are failing.

*At Wild 94. 9 FM talk of the station had to do with an older-than usual intern having quite a wild time with a unsuspecting IHeart exec who probably thinks he won the lottery. Only this is not a financial bonanza I'm sure he's expecting. Ou la la.

  1. Rich has obviously never been the any 7-11 in Hayward. They're quite warm. Hot, even. Lotsa heat lamps and food warmers.

  2. Call me immature, but I really don't mind Lund and Papa's content. What creeps me out though is that they are too old to pull off these kinds of subjects. They give off a real "two oldest guys at the club" kind of vibe and Lund in particular comes across as sort of an empty soul.

    1. Gregy and johnny are two middle age divorced dads on the prowl hitting on their daughters college age friends

  3. Just out of curiosity, has Sze ever tried to screw with Dan Ashley? I wonder if the two of them get along, and if she has tried to make his professional life miserable for him. She sounds and looks like the type who would.

  4. Dion Lim is sharper and smarter, than anyone knows!

    1. Ming has to hope that Dion moves onto LA or national or her days are numbered.

    3. Yes.....she is a legend in her own mind.

  5. I'm actually a fan of Wong's. She comes off as no non-sense and she smiles when appropriate. If she were a male, we'd call her "focused". It's funny, you get on others for engaging in fake blather, but Wong who comes off as professional gets the Rich? Hmm.

  6. MING has the least talent of the KGO female anchor bench. I would be afraid if I were she. And that "news magazine" she hosts at 3:00 is a great cure for insomnia. MING is a legend in her own mind, and if Trixie ever got the boot she'd be on the next train to Fresno.

    1. Ming is a part of the ABC7 furniture. She thinks she runs that place but even she is not stupid enough to challenge Ashley.

Her 3pm hot topics snooze fest is just brutal TV. Isnt there some B list celebrity talk show they could pick up instead.

    2. > Her 3pm hot topics snooze fest is just brutal TV.

Oh God, yes. And she's the most boring host ever.

    3. Trixie did take the last train to Fresno and got sued. Took the SUV to SF and got sued again. No doubt, Trixie has video of Disney big shots, and or Tommy-Boy, partying with Sheep.

  7. Dion Lim is a far superior anchor and reporter tan than Sze. She has grown during her tenure at ABC7 working with Eric Thomas and now she fully capable of anchoring the weekend news solo. She also appears to have excellent chemistry with Dan Ashley and Ama Daetz. I am a huge fan of hers.

Daetz knows that Sze is a second tier journalist.

  8. Ama all the way. Don't worry, her husband is a manager at the station or KPIX (not sure) and Ama job is secured unless KGO wants her out and we know why??

Ming Sze has serious attitude problems. Last week, Dr Patel was either not ready or having microphone issues talking to someone with a laugh, when he was ready, Ming Sze asked him you going to tell me what was so funny, he said, no and she laughed then went to commercial break showing how unhappy not getting the response she wanted to know what was so funny. The f#$^ part was she fool up 3 more times trying to do the segment then went back and forth...

I learned a lesson, never date a woman resembling Kristen and from Taiwan. Ming Sze speaks Mandarin and is from Taiwan. Evil witches.

Good luck getting rid of Reggie protected by Gavin's N rights and SF and thank you kicking Natasha out.

  9. What talent did KRON poach? Ken Wayne? One person? Ol Wayne ain't that grand. Sure didn't help KRON's numbers in any way, at least that I can tell (oh sure, numbers can be spun any way to make it seem positive). Dion is solid. She is authentic. Check out her social media and all she does for the community...although a bit overblown at times.

  10. A facelift, does he realize he's on the radio?

  11. So call me shallow (it wouldn't be the first time) but it's seems coincidental to me that the presentation improvement of Dion (I thought she was not a threat to anyone from the start) coincided with her letting her hair grow out. She seems more relaxed, more approachable. And the 1 picture of her I have seen of her at a car show, where she was sitting in the driver's seat with the door open, showing off her legs -- to quote Verne Lundquist's famous Masters call, "Yes sir!"

  12. Don't get me started on Rod Brooks. This guy is a complete no-talent who was only hired because Bay Area radio stations were getting torched for only having white sports-talk hosts. He's an Affirmative Action hire who has never deserved the job. His delivery is affected, phony, and put-on, with bizarre elocutions and hard landings on the ends of sentences. In the '70s, he would have been labeled "jive-ass." He is unlistenable.

    1. I'll take Brooks any day over the blowhard know it all Krueger

    2. I disagree. Krueger has an even, low-key delivery that wears well. And his contributions to the 95.7 49er Post-Game show are well-informed and lucid.

  13. I work w/Dion here at 7. She is one really cool lady. I know many who post here on 415 Media don't like her. I and those who work with her don't give a shit. First and foremost--and this is all you can ask from a TV news coworker: She is good at what she does....an absolute pro. But equally important (and the most important to me, anyway) is that she's a pretty cool person. When you work in a business with a bunch of jerks, jackasses, and divas, it's great when you come across someone who is actually a pretty cool human. I value this more in a coworker than any other quality.
