Is Circle7 Long Timer David Louie Poised to Leave? Might be Taking ABC Buyout Offer; Disney Financial Shape Worsens

RICH LIEBERMAN 415 MEDIA: The Coolest News in Bay Area 1970's: KGO-TV's 'NewsScene'; 'Circle 7 Ruled The Town

David Louie has been at Circle7 KGO since the beginning of time...actually 1976 but it seems even longer.

Last year he celebrated 50 years in TV News, the bulk of which has been here in the Bay Area.

His tenure, if you believe 900 Front chatter, maybe on the brink of a not-so-happy ending.

Word is that ABC, in the midst of utilizing buyout offers to various KGO personnel (including Eric Thomas, who bit) has offered up a going-away present for Louie and wants desperately for him to accept.

This nmatter may be at the heart of buyout offers.

Rumors have circulated for years that Louie might be ready to enjoy a sunset --he's 74 now and in addition to declining years, he's battling health issues.

Louie knows where all the bodies are buried at ABC7; how far does he go back? He was at KGO when Van Amburg was just hitting his prime.

That's one long time ago.

  1. How old is Eric Thomas?

Should they get rid of Dan Ashley and Dan Noyes if age matters, both look in their 50s or close to 60s.

    1. One of his kids and one of my kids were on the same soccer team yyyeeeaaarrsss ago! Like me I’d guess he’s real close to “retirement age”. Buyout, prolly an AFTRA pension, social, who knows what else, I’m happy for him.

  2. 1.25 PM, You are comparing apples to oranges. In the case of the two Dans, both bring a unique style and personality to their work.
Taking nothing away from Mr. Louie, but he would be easier to replace.
And let's be real. TV is a visual medium. Youth is usually more attractive than the aged. I am 64 since last week, and I admit this.

  3. David Louie actually began at Circle7 in 1972, when he & Van traveled to China to cover Nixon's visit with Mao.
