Source to 415 Media: More Bay Area NBC Cuts will be 'Particularly Painful'

NBC Sports Layoffs Continue, Hit Digital And Regional Properties Hard

A 415 MEDIA SOURCE:

The cuts at the NBC outlets here: 'the NBC O and O in San Jose and the sports cable station, NBC Sports Bay Area' will be particularly painful because NY wants to hit its big market affiliates harder because that's where most of its highest-paid earners live."

I'VE been monitoring potential action at the 3rd street NBC Sports, Bay Area --only Kelli Johnson is the name person that has been told she's no longer on the payroll.

There's rampant talk that 2 BIG names are about to get the heave-ho, one of which, if true, will shock you --all of you.

In San Jose, I know at least 3 camera people and a couple EPs and producers have been 86ed and there's chatter a number of reporters are about to get their days ruined.

*DEVELOPING...

  1. Just don't fire Doug and Maggie. I would just die if we lost those two.

  4. I believe Maggie Scura is retired from the TV broadcast industry. Same with Doug Moore. And if memory serves me, didn't Doug Moore's first wife and kids die in some automobile accident in or around Lake Tahoe back in the 1980s? It seems to me that I remember some tragedy happening to Doug.

    1. Memory is correct a tragic accident in Nevada while driving to Minnesota - lost his wife when a large vehicle merging or something forced them to swerve. At least one child survived - not sure if there was another. Doug was working at the time and not in the car. What a pro he was and is.

  5. I'm genuinely curious about how TV advertising has fallen off during the pandemic. Are the usual advertisers just cutting their spending? Given the lack of other entertainment options, you would think watching TV would be one area that people would be doing more of. Also figured with baseball and hoops coming back online - those who have survived in sports TV up to know would be safe.

    1. Everyone is cutting back, including places like car dealerships that usually advertise.

As far as sports returning, the Warriors aren’t playing so local RSN has nothing to show for it. Baseball doesn’t draw numbers unless it’s the Giants and they’re winning

    2. It doesn't matter if people are watching TV; what matter is, is your business permitted to be open so that they come in and buy the goods you're advertising, and if you can do pickup shopping, is it enough to warrant the advertising.

In most cases these days, the answer is no, and likely will be for a long time.

  6. I hope it is none of RL's two favorite ladies. Would be very shocking if it were Raj. Maybe Bigad is one of them.

  7. Here are the regular "faces" of KNTV. Curiously some folks have no photo.

  8. Anonymous August 5, 2020 at 9:01 PM: "unless it’s the Giants and they’re winning". They are? As of your post they did. I guess 1 game over Arizona is a good thing. They're almost in a tie for last place. "unless it’s the Giants". LOL!!
