Adam Copeland Emerges as Someone to Listen to on All-Sports KNBR

The Leadoff Spot with Adam Copeland | KNBR-AF
Adam Copeland

I GO BACK AND FORTH on my take on Adam Copeland, KNBR sports voice (5-6 AM--"The Leadoff Spot") and Morning Show producer --but before my take, some insight to you all.

I'm BETTING that Copeland will soon become a regular fixture on the 6-10 AM show and probably ace out the insufferable, Paulie Mac, which he should, It is common sense. More on that later.

Copeland is good. And not just because he's smart and can string together a few sentences and sound reasonably coherent --he does both well. He also knows sports and it shows. I wish he had a more lengthier forum than being buried in the Death Valley time slot of 5-6 AM. He could be much more valuable from 9-10 or better yet, a regular contributor in a show that needs a lot of structural help. A morning show without Paulie Mac and a show devoid of Bonnie Jill-Laflin, would be remarkable and is probably on the front burner, but that's another time for schmoozing.

Copeland, the son of former KGO Radio and comedian, Brian Copeland, is quite lucid and interesting to listen to. He can be quite overly analytical and consumed with his own spiel, but overall, I think he adds to the discussion and has a lot to say, it's sort of over-engrossing, from Giants' minutiae and 49ers' items to social events and such. Copeland is hit and miss but when he hits, it moves the needle.

If Copeland isn't Mac's eventual replacement, I'll be surprised. He should be. He can add a lot. It is a major infusion of much-needed energy and valuable content that Paulie Mac can't add because Paulie Mac has several mental issues and isn't able to contribute.

I'll be talking more soon.

  1. When Murph is out, Copeland has to carry the show for Paulie Mac and Bonnie Jill - and it's their show!

  2. Gotta love nepotism! He wouldn't have a career if not for daddy Brian

    1. That's life, pal. I mean, hell, we as a country have been suffering under Kushner and Ivanka--while their personal wealth has grown while on the job.

Life sucks sometimes. But, hey, it is what it is.

    2. Every now and then when I'm driving around and happen to hit KNBR on the radio (which is very rare), I've heard him...and he's actually pretty good. I've only been in the Frisco area for two years, so I don't who his dad is. But this Copeland dude is a pretty good listen.

    3. 7:32 I totally agree with you. I wrote the post at 2:57 pm. I don't listen to sports radio so I never heard Adam, but judging from Rich's post and other comments here he is up to the job, so he is earning his salary. As for Ivanka and Jared not sure what their qualifications are, Jared couldn't even get a security pass, yet he is in on all kind of classified information. Trump is running the country, pretty much like he did his companies. I wonder if the Trump sons were not employed in daddy's firm, would they even have a job. Neither of them sound too bright.

  3. He is a pompous know it all jackass. He needs to know his place in the pecking order. The epitome of a "millenial". He DOESN'T know it all as he thinks he does.

  4. If Adam is talented that would be great, that would increase the number of talented radio folks in his family from 0 to 1

  5. And would Ivanka Trump be employed by the White House if her dad was not President. Would Jenna Hager be on the NBC's "Today" show if her dad was not George W. Bush, or Meghan McCain be on the View. I'm not sure what Chelsea Clinton is doing, someone mentioned that she had a job or a position on a board that she would not have had her parents not be named Clinton. I only one I have watched or listened to is Jenna Hager, not a lot, but she sounds like she is up to the job. Many get jobs or opportunities because of who we know, but once in the job or the position, you have to perform to keep your job, unless perhaps your Dad is the President.

  6. Little Copeland can talk about more than race so he's better than his father from day one. Let's hope Paulie gets cut as a cost savings.

    1. Little Copeland sounds very condescending, how about Copeland Jr. I don't listen to sports radio so I don't know about his talent. I disagree about Brian Copeland, so many says he only talked about race, that sounds so paranoid to me, because I listened to his show almost daily when he was on, and I heard him talk about issue of the day, be the black or white, I heard him interview local politicians, most of them white, I heard him interview entertainers, some black, Johnny Mathis and Ben Vereen, however they talked show business, not race, and he interviewed white show business as well. He talked about race when it was applicable, such as the Ferguson case, and or Eric Garner, but other hosts, not black talked about those issues as well.

  7. KNBR should give serious consideration to naming Adam Copeland as Marty Laurie's replacement.
Marty has seen better days. Time to move-on.

  8. I agree about Adam Copeland... he's quite good, and frankly, I'd think he would have to be in order to stick around at a Cumulus station after what went down with his dad. Though I really don't get the disdain for Paulie Mac. Ya, he's goofy, but for me the show works. Not a huge fan of Bonnie-Jill, but she has improved a little. I'm curious to see what you publish about Paulie Mac's supposed "mental issues". He does clearly create content, even if not to your liking, so wondering what you meant with that.

  9. Not to worry, with all the "White guilt" going around, he's got the job with a large salary!!

    1. Adam Copeland is bi-racial. His father was black, and his mother was white..Seems like you'd like his white half getting hired full time, but not the black.

    2. Bi-racial?? lol. Don't you know, if you have one drop of Black blood in you, you're considered Black. Obama is a perfect example. He's technically considered bi-racial, but always referred to as ....Black.

    4. 1:16 crude stupid comment, adds nothing to the topic. Wondering why it got posted.

  10. Copeland has a good head and voice but he jumps around and covers different topics at such a fast pace that I find listening to him exhausting. Lay off the Red Bull.

  11. What do they talk about on KNBR with no sports going on? Must be even worse than usual.

  12. I see no reason Bonnie Jill is still around. She almost never has anything of substance to add, and her news reads are painful to listen to. No chemistry with the other hosts. Just a bad fit.

  13. I could listen 2 Copeland 24/7 (I actually think he's quite talented)than hear 5 minutes of .Paulie Mac or Bonnie Jill. Maybe there's a morning zoo station that Cumulus has that Paulie and Bonnie Jill could be transferred to?
