How KGO Radio Could Dominate the Morning: Combine Nikki Medoro and Chip Franklin --Too Simple; Thursday Thirsty

ICYMI with Chip Franklin and Nikki Medoro | KGO-AM

THURSDAY THIRSTY

This is too simple. KGO wants to have a successful morning show. It can. And I'll lead the push.

Nine weeks into its new morning-drive program, KGO, specifically Nikki Medoro, needs tweaking. Nikki is good but she's running on fumes now. Her AM enterprise is in need of a makeover. Mind you, there's a lot there to like but overall, it's a tough listen from 6-10 AM. Here's some free help, courtesy of yours truly.

This is evident: Medoro needs Chip Franklin and to a lesser degree, Franklin needs Medoroa. So do the obvious: bring Chip to the morning and let both have at it. What's created? A dynamic new, fresh, morning-drive show that would kill in the ratings and offer a crisp entertainment venue for Bay Area listeners. I'm wondering why KGO didn't consider this package in the first place. They should now.

First, the obvious: Medoro needs help. She's not awful nor lousy but she's close. She can interview. She has a good voice. But that also works against her. She's too centered on being a wife and mother and tells us every day which is fine but when there's little effect and mucho annoying side elements, then nobody cares, nobody listens. Medoro doesn't captivate; more often she irritates. It's painfully evident. We should care about her. We don't. She sounds like the bitchy mother-in-law or girlfriend. When that happens it takes away from her talents and provides constant frustration.

Medoro works best as a second fiddle to Franklin. The give and take between them was at first, a liability. It got a whole lot better as time moved forward. Both could use each other. More Nikki than Chip but combine the two and you have a terrific duo and one that would rock the morning. Franklin has vastly improved. I know his critics have complained about his chatter-style and while that's occasionally murky, he makes up for it on interviews and compelling guests. But his chief strength was the give and take with Medoro. It made for entertaining and profound radio which is difficult in today's terrestrial world. KGO would have to hire a new afternoon host but the good news is that it would have a nice enterprise during the morning.

Egos would have to be massaged but the overall project would be infinitely improved --which is why I think it would work. Because they both have worked together, there's no need to sell the idea. It's a project that would be successful. And it would kick KCBS in the ass which is why it should be implemented immediately.

  2. April Fool's Day was last month.
Combining two obnoxious and annoying dumbshits together in an earlier slot doesn't make them less so.

  3. "Trump, Trump, Trump". "Republicans bad, Democrats the greatest thing since God and sliced bread" (in this market for Chip that is). Snark, snark, more snark, more Trump, Trump, Trump.

I gave you their entire show for the next 6 months. You won't have to waste time tuning in.

  4. I would rather lick a door handle at a San Leandro 7-11 than waste 30 seconds listening to those two jackasses.

    2. A&G had horrible ratings at KGO and haven't improved them at KSFO. The worst 4 hours in radio. I'd rather listen to reruns of Ray Taliaferro from the 90's.

    3. KSFO's numbers went up after A&G moved over and their show is growing by leaps and bounds in syndication.

  9. No! I'm fed up with Chip and his constant blathering about his guilt and shame about being white. It's really just sad that he has such low self esteem.

  10. Get rid of both of them. Nikki: yap, yap,yap about husband, kids, parents can't go to gym. Who the fuck cares?
Chimp just LOVED talking over Nikki and she just laid there like a rug.
I had to stop listening to Chimp with some of his stupid comments like:
*Gay men shouldn't have kids (Nikki told him "that's the stupidest thing you've ever said")
*Catholics should only have two kids
*You know you're in a bad neighborhood when you see a bail bonds business (Should they be in lily white Lafayette where he once lived?) The hall of justice is about the safest place in the city with myriad, cops, sheriffs; lots of professional people with guns. AND, aren't bail bonds businesses supposed to be CLOSE to the jails?
*Nodding to Black guys when he walks down the street (Oh, that makes you not racist, trust me, you are trying too fucking hard)
*Libraries are only for the homeless (Oh THAT'S why the Lafayette branch is opened on Sundays, for the homeless!!
    *EVERYONE has a smart phone (I don't)
    *Can't even pronounce Cesar Chavez.
*Thinks he invented the word IRONIC.
A&G are gone for a reason and you can always listen to those two jerks on another station.

A caller once called in and suggested Nikki have her own show.
Did they REALLY take this caller's advice?
I don't think Nikki will last long; perhaps she has a decent contract. (C-)
I have to turn the radio off when I even hear Chimp starting to READ an ad. (D Dump)

  12. Chip's doom and gloom schtick won't work in the morning and I just heard Nikki's "can you get covid from a fart" commercial. Aye Aye Aye!

  13. who cares about niky medoro's kids, someone must think other working moms/housewives somehow identify with her..she is annoying, whinny and has a grating voice

  14. If this were Jeopardy the question would start with "These two assclowns had an afternoon show on KGO...".

  15. All the KGO hosts are pretty enjoyable. The only time I have to turn the channel to KFJC is when Pat starts ranting and screaming. She's right on with her politics, I just don't want to revisit the 1st grade when I pulled on some girls hair and got excoriated for it.
