*Here's the non-BS: Betty Yu is what KGO hoped to turn Dion Lim into but has realized that you can't get chemistry off the employment line, you have to do better in interviews. Yu has a personality; Yu has drive; Yu is star potential; Yu is KPIX's third basewoman only PIX uses her like a utility infielder, so there, that's it in that department.

*KRON had this sports anchor who suddenly disappeared off the radar, replaced by a guy, seriously, who looked like he was schlepped off the stock line at the local Safeway. Where do they find these people?
*Ama Daetz has learned to chill. Maybe the current hair style is a keeper? I hope so.
*Good god, Lisa Argen, RELAX! Smile, let it all out, personality is a virtue even on Sunday morning at KGO.
*Argen's best friend, a powerful figure at KGO when they were there, is angry that I lecture Lise, maybe I'm used that, maybe I'm not. I have a headache figuring it out.
*Michelle Griego, don't let looks fool you.
*NBC corporate at 30 Rock has begun implementing mass layoffs at its O and O's and San Jose NBC Bay Area is on the hit list.
*The delusional sports-talk radio guys here who still think sports isn't dead, are, well, still delusional.
*John Lund continues to insist we give a crap about his drinking habits and we don't, check the ratings --maybe you're headed back to Utah.
*KQED and its "Check Please" was being pitched by its big boss to a syndicated showcase then along came the virus which ruined the day. Everyone's.

*Alan Martin continues to growl at 855 Battery which is one reason why PIX is in deep doo-doo. He's still there? You betcha.
*By and large, the women anchors and reporters love me here because even they like it to be told like it is without the BS and without the PC-control people. I still can't fathom how poorly dressed the ladies here present themselves. Is there some Ross credit card giveaway being offered on the premises? Good god.

DeleteEvery Station need a do gooder reporter/anchor who can be that MC at events and go to community events. After Cheryl Jennings retired ABC needed someone to fill that role. Dion is really good at those events (much like Betty Yu, Janelle Wang, Julie Haener). Dion showed in the Gilroy even she is not anchor desk material for real events.

Everyone who has antenna TV had to do a rescan on May 1st as several channels changed their frequencies. KRON disappeared. They are supposedly still there if you rescan, but I've rescanned three times and no KRON. Anyone else have this happen?
ReplyDeleteI wasn't getting KRON on 4.1 et al either after rescanning a few days ago. Thanks to your post, I just got through rescanning again and I'm now receiving KRON once again. I suspect KRON was just a bit late from the original 4/29/2020 date.

You need to purchase a VHF outdoor antenna OR fully extend the indoor rabbit ears for VHF.

Speaking of KRON, I know staffers in that newsroom read this blog. Would someone please tell amateurish Sara Stinson to lower the damn mask when she is doing LIVE reporting? These are early morning reports with no one within a half-mile of her and yet she continues with her muffled commentary.

DeleteShe looked like a deer in headlights. The moment was too big for her. If she got a nomination, it cannot be for her studio work that evening because she was woeful.
DeleteDion was NOT nominated for an individual Emmy Award. She was included with @ 10 others for a "team" award nomination. Many folks did top notch work for KGO that night, but Dion was not one of them. She was simply on the coattails of others.

I've recently seen her twice now and found her being too rude in asking her questions to the President (whether you like the President or not, it was just inappropriate with the way the questions are prefaced, then immediately on the defensive, personally {when suggested she ask China for an answer}).

DeleteWatched Dion again recently nothing's changed. The fact she was on the Kelly and Ryan show (which is a complete waste of media bandwidth)says it all, still unwatchable. That's my take, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, if you think she's good keep watching.

ReplyDeleteWhat's wrong with Liz Saint John? I know she's been knocking around the radio business here since the 80s, but she sounds like an amateur doing shifts on KCBS in the evenings. Her voice cracks when she loses her place on the script. It's distracting. I know she's not a beginner, but she needs to go back to the basics and pre-read her copy as much as possible so that her delivery is smooth. I realize that at an all-news station, pre-reading isn't always possible, but take advantage of long commercial breaks. Right now she sounds like an old woman who is startled by a subordinate clause in her copy.

ReplyDelete$500 million for KRON? What are you smoking? That’s a price tag for a Big 4 station in the biggest markets, not KRON. KRON doesn’t have the revenue stream that would attract a station group — maybe a net of $1 to $3 million a year and no retrans money. Nexstar has stations in smaller markets that pull in more cash. Nexstar got KRON as a consolation prize for buying a better group of stations. There was serious talk about shutting down KRON a couple of years ago and putting all of its bandwidth up for sale in the FCC auction. Nexstar doesn’t care about KRON and no other group (Sinclair, Tegna, etc.) is interested either. Besides, broadcast TV is dying. Investors/banks aren't interested in financing the purchase of stations.
