415 MEDIA EXCLU:
Some of the proposals offered to hosts by Cumulus Mgt to its various SF stations:
*A "3-1" schedule: Three weeks on--one week off.
*Pay cuts amounting to 20-30 percent of compensation. The more you make the higher the cut.
*SAG-AFTRA --the broadcast union, like its members, have been notified of the policy--there's talk they will respond to management before the April 20th implementation --doesn't seem the union has any leverage here given the financial tumble that has hit Cumulus (as other broadcast corporations)
*Developing news situation...

> SAG-AFTRA
ReplyDeleteThey never have any leverage in anything. Twenty-three years employed in the biz and they (and the other unions) never did anything except take money out of my paycheck. Worthless.
SAG-AFTRA also provides a health plan far superior to Cumulus and a pension for those in the union more than ten years. The health plan is good for one year after a person is laid off. So, you know maybe the fact that these companies are in a death spiral leaves no one any options, but the union at least gives some real benefits and whatever leverage is possible in this post Ronnie Reagan economy.
DeleteIf you have 23 years in SAG-AFTRA, you should have excellent health care and a pension when you're ready to take it.
Deletehmmm worthless? seriously? My mother, an actress got many benefits from her SAG membership. I have received many from my AFTRA and SAG/AFTRA membership, including financial support when challenging the sexism in television newsrooms in federal court, a very good health plan, and my pension.
DeleteChristine who was your mother? I would love to look her up.
DeleteThe workers at some of these stations should really consider de-certifying some of these lamo unions like AFTRASAG, CWANABET and IBEW.
ReplyDeleteReal simple...
If you cannot strike because the union has NO POWERt, then why allow them to poach your dues each month. Union healthcare plans also suck now. You can get a better deal elsewhere.
You would be wrong about AFTRA/SAG G. Look at 9:11PM. That is correct When you work for Clowns like Cumulus, a union is a must
DeleteThis is a company wide move, and it is suspected that the "Furloughed" folk may never be asked back. The company does not have to pay severance if it is a furlough...For a Cash Poor Company like Cumulus that is a double benefit. No Pay, No severance. It's also a great way to cover firings. Like I-Heart, and Entercom. Just another way to GUT Local Radio.
ReplyDeleteThere is no law requiring severance be paid under any circumstances (lay-off, furlough, firing, etc.) unless
Deleteagreed to in a union contract. Unions have no leverage
when cash is scarce. What would you expect a union to do?
Well most Union Contracts have a severance provision, Even Cumulus has a severance provision in their Non Union work agreements.(employee Handbook) BTW, I never said it was a Law. If there is a CBA. The unions have leverage.
DeleteKNBR will go all syndicated programming.
ReplyDeleteYou can expect in the coming months, 24 hours of CBS Radio programming.
Gary Radnich should go to management and request a job since he is willing to work on the cheap.
They should be thankful they got paid without getting a real job.
ReplyDeleteIf you listen closely, I believe you'll discover everyone working now is related to the owner.
DeleteThat is nonsense, who is the owner of Cumulus I doubt Pat, Chip, John, Mark are related to the owner. What is a real job? A real job is where you have to show up pretty much everyday you are suppose, know your stuff and perform. Does not matter if you are a radio host, lawyer, construction worker, actress, sales clerk etc. they are all jobs that people perform and get paid for.

ReplyDeleteYour Subjugation Is Being Televised
You are being told to shelter in place,
Brothers and Sisters,
Of all colors and creeds.
Many of you are not able to go to work,
Clock in and make an honest buck.
Many can't lose themselves on "dope"
From a dispensary.
Beer from a favorite watering hole?
It's verboten.
Why?
Your subjugation is being televised.
Your subjugation is being brought to you by:
The My Pillow Guy on Fox,
Ageless Male Max on CNN,
And a market manipulation interview of
A notorious hedge fund manager on CNBC.
Your subjugation is being televised.
Your subjugation includes daily briefings
From a bloviating president
Flanked by sycophants
And so-called medical experts.
The COVID-19 models they tout
Are consistently a crapshoot.
Your subjugation is being televised.
Your subjugation is made worse
By tone-deaf tweets
From the rich and famous
Who can get tested.
Your subjugation will not let you
Peacefully assemble.
Your subjugation abrogates a civil
liberty.
Your subjugation will not make
Hysteria-mongering news anchors thinner
Because your subjugation is televised,
Brothers and Sisters,
Of all colors and creeds.
There will be no pictures of anyone
With a Hamilton--
Let alone memories
Of Willie Mae "Big Mama" Thornton--
Pushing a cart down the aisle at
Costco on a dead run,
Or trying to slide that 4K plasma TV
Into a waiting SUV.
There is a mugshot of the outfielder,
Who was arrested on unrelated charges--
Child abuse (if you haven't already heard)--
But no network predicts when
Law-abiding citizens
Can move about freely.
Your subjugation is being televised.
The Fed made it rain for corporations,
But there are no pictures of
Benjamins on Main Street.
Don't count on them anytime soon.
The Fed made it rain for big banks,
But those SBA loans are not going through.
Don't count on them anytime soon, if at all.
There will be no pictures of legislators
On both sides of the aisle
Being run out of D.C. on a rail,
Even though they sold you out
To K Street.
There will be no slow motion or still life of
Elijah strolling through Baltimore.
Alas, we lost a civil rights icon last year.
John Lewis, hang in there.
America has long watched
Dreck and drivel,
But someone mentioning a masked singer
Crooning beyond the confines of an idiot box
Would be damned relevant and refreshing.
Many more women and men will not care
About tribal councils on Survivor
Because people of all colors and creeds
Will be in the street and destitute.
Period.
Your subjugation is being televised.
There will be no highlights on the news
And no pictures of waxed metrosexuals
Looking at the man in the mirror.
The theme song will not be written by
Chris Martin or Sting, nor sung by
Trent Reznor, Tom Waits, Cardi B, or
Lady Gaga.
Your subjugation is being televised.
Your subjugation will not disappear
After a message about
A whitening toothpaste,
Or any other consumer-driven bull$hit.
Your subjugation does not go better with Starbucks.
Your subjugation is not caused by
A virus.
Your subjugation puts you in
The backseat.
Your subjugation is caused by
Apathy, gullibility, and cravenness.
Wake up, sheeple.
Is it no longer WE THE PEOPLE?
Your subjugation is no re-run,
Brothers and Sisters,
Of all colors and creeds.
Your subjugation disappoints me,
An OCD and immunocompromised person,
Who asks: Where is Patrick Henry?
You have shown the powers that be
That you will sacrifice liberty
At the remote chance of death.
Your subjugation is being televised.
Your subjugation is being televised.
Your subjugation is being televised.
Your subjugation has gone viral.

DeleteMuch like the infamous honey badger, the virus doesn't care about prayer, religion, race, politics, or bad poetry gone amok. It seeks any host. Current USA death count has gone from zero to 22,000 and climbing, in just a few weeks. "At the remote chance of death", is an idiotic claim.
DeleteUnknown at 10:20, well spoken. A version of Ray's old Poetry Night for Rich's "airwaves". I can hear Ray saying in a sigh, "ahh oh boy, preaching it like it is."

ReplyDeleteThat's news to me. Lawyers would typically want to settle disputes without litigation. That's certainly true in my practice.Perhaps you were thinking of Brian Copeland?
