IT NEEDS TO BE RESTATED...
KGO Radio has reignited its talk-radio staccato --it's not in any way the old-style KGO because that can't happen. We're twenty years removed from KGO's high point and it can't be something that time has passed. But it can do this and it's doing so.
KGO can seize on the moment of a major story like the Coronavirus pandemic and its implications and effects on the entire Bay Area, the nation, the world. Everyone is talking about the virus. It has cross-checked mere story-status. It rules the world. People need a place to talk, vent, commiserate, and be enlightened. It can't beat the enemy but at least it can connect the concerned and we're all concerned and frightened.
It's why I have written about KGO so much and why it's so valuable and needed, particularly in moments like we're all experiencing. So yes, while an old KGO will never be replicated, even a new KGO, circa 2020, can excite the senses and then some. We so badly need it in any iteration and most especially today.
KGO radio with their excellent local coverage of this Corona virus pandemic might be able to bring back the listeners who gave up on the station.

ReplyDeleteYou are just one person. I hear plenty of callers, especially to John's shop saying how they have listened to him since he was first on the air, and are glad he is back on.
DeleteI don't understand whose who use to like KGO why they won't listen now. It's as if they think Cumulus is a person, and those they feel personal insulted. I for one, and many others, including Rich is glad KGO is what it is today. So much better from when they fired everyone in 2011, and has improved greatly since they returned to mostly all talk. It seems with the virus and election coming up this should be a good year for them.
Well, those of us who remember the Mid 90's and KPIX FM going All In on the OJ Trial would like to mention to KGO, They better have a Plan Two when this all settles down. KPIX said it was gonna be the KGO Radio Killer and when the wall to wall OJ Crap ended...So di KPIX-FM. The "OLD" Kgo was great in a crisis like this, but they were great without a crisis too. 32 years at # 1 is more than ONE BIG STORY. Good luck KGO.
