My Two Cents

Image result for my two cents"
ON THE RUSH LIMBAUGH NEWS, count me along to the group of people who find Limbaugh's GOP/Trump ass-kissing pathetic but are hesitant to get excited over his lung cancer diagnosis. It's a cliché: bad karma works both ways. Limbaugh is an asshole; a certified putz; a giant in the talk-radio biz now and probably forever; he'll be at the forefront for those who read about how talk-radio revolutionized politics and how one man's take on GOP policy influenced millions. Yeah, he may have gone goofy on 'Forest Gump"--the mega-dittos craze --all that--but at least he was consistent. I'm placing Rush in the past tense as a lot of people have done but don't mean to. He could receive a lot more sympathy if he were to be more reflective of his Sacramento days working in small radio stations and talking about his early days listening to KFBK and KGO.

*KTVU wouldn't be the only TV station that wasted money sending a few too many reporters and anchors to Super Bowl only KTVU stood out for the extra monstrosity called Claudine Wong and Mark Ibanez/Joe Fonzie largesse --for the cost of those three saying nothing all week they could have bought five extra news trucks.

*KRON was downright pathetic on Sunday night with some blond reporter at the stadium saying absolutely nothing for the course of two hours. Had she chucked a couple of tequila shots in a South Beach bar that would have been more entertaining and useful.

*Speaking of Ibanez, what's with the tie-less live shots, was he trying to pick up a new girlfriend at the Cleavender.

*Remember a few weeks back when Kobe Bryant and his daughter were killed in a copter crash and that's all you read and heard? Now we read, see nothing. We magnify our own tragedy via Twitter and then trivialize it out. What a lovely world out there.

*If KGO Radio is in its same iteration a year from now, I'll be surprised.

*KTVU sold a ton of  local Super Bowl ads and made probably more than $10M bucks enough to pay for Heather Holmes' wardrobe for a week.

*Joe Fonzie looks like one of the Beach Boys if that guy had a tan and it were 1985.

*Bill Martin watch: mumbling more often than a Milt Kahn allnight bender.

*Dear Ken Bastida: between you going ga-ga sports with Vern Glenn the other night and Stan Bunger's weather banter, I think there's an opening.

*KPIX has a job opening for news anchor in the trades right now but I got wind of that months ago. The new guy starts in early March and is looking for a marina condo. He'll need to auction off his townhouse in Detroit to pay for the first month's rent.

*Breaking News: Damon Bruce hasn't showed any latest pictures of his kid.

*Here's your 2020 Democratic ticket because someone asked me:Mike Bloomberg and Kamala Harris.

  1. Rich on one hand I don't wish Cancer on anyone. But on the other hand, Rush has been siding with the tobacco growers for decades claiming on his talk show that cigars and cigarettes do not cause cancer and that it is all a left wing plot to try to destroy the tobacco industry. So, I'd agree with you about his diagnosis being bad karma working both ways.

Mark Ibanez- Jesus Christ, what people see in him is beyond me. I can vividly recall him working as a "reporter" on the 49ers sidelines at Super Bowl XIX in 1985 at Stanford Stadium. He was running around on the sidelines like some 11-year-old kid who saw his first nude woman ever, giddy over the fact that his precious "Niners" were putting the beat-down on the Miami Dolphins In the 49ers backyard. What a clown show.

My 2020 Democratic Ticket? Joe Biden and Andrew Yang. If Yang says no then Biden will pick Georgia Politician Stacey Abrams. And this ticket will win the battleground states and defeat Trump this November.

    1. I know people that have smoked since the age of 16 and are well into their 80's and 90's now with no cancer. It's genetics and environment. California air in the 1960's?

    2. I've known quite a few people who started smoking in their teens, who didn't live to see their 55th birthday. And they didn't die in accidents.

Genetics played a role. They had the dumbass gene, that prevented them from knowing better than to suck on toxic burning leaves that are known to cause cancer and other deleterious conditions.

    3. One of the reasons people who have never smoked get lung cancer is because they are sucking in carbon monoxide when they stand near their gas stoves while they are cooking. The fan above your stove is almost useless.

Put a carbon monoxide detector near your stove, it will alarm every time. Read the instructions for installation, they all say the same thing...don't install near "any" gas operated appliance. Your sucking in carbon monoxide, welcome to the smokers club.

U.S. Consumer product safety commission says anything above 70 ppm is hazardous to your health, so I guess 69 ppm isn't hazardous!!

Why the hell do people always bring that up? Do yourself a favor and learn about statistics and the bell curve, moron. Just because I could fall off my roof and survive doesn't mean the act isn't dangerous.

I'll say what I said to the other retard. Go learn what a bell curve is. Maybe take a college course or two in statistics.

  2. The comments on Yahoo, about Rush's diagnose, is mixed, but there are enough who celebrate it. However, I feel about Rush pretty much the way you do, but as you stated karma works both ways. If we wish for his demise, and even celebrate his horrible diagnose, then we just play into the rights wings hands, how nasty liberals are. So I will wish him well, and refuse to be dragged down in the gutter by those who can't bring themselves so separate his radio personality from him as a human being. Besides I remember Christine Kraft and even Bernie Ward saying that off the air he was courteous and helpful.

Many who met Hitler in the 1930s were struck by his charm and warmth. Seriously. There are photos, newsreels.

Wow, you only have to be "nice"? What a low bar. I guess you'd cuddle up to Satan, too. He is supposedly a charmer.

    3. I know all about Hitler and his rise to power. I was born in Denmark in the last month of the German occupation. I don't like Rush, rarely listen to his show, when I do I find nothing of interest or redeeming quality. Only stunned how many people take his word (same with Hannity) as gospel.
My point was that he has been diagnosed with a most likely fatal disease, not something I would wish on most people, so I choose to wish him well. I can guarantee you had I would not have the same feelings in regards to Hitler, he was truly evil, caused the death of millions, whatever he had coming to him was deserved, and the fact that he took he own life, was the easy way out, much too good for an evil man like Hitler.

  3. Rush says he has "advanced lung cancer".Did he say which stage? He said he had no symptoms. Fact is , the first day you have lung cancer,on the next day, it is "advanced"..So that can mean many things. I gave Rush his first job in tv, doing commentaries on our newscasts in Sacramento. HE wasn't good on tv, but on radio he was hysterically funny, innovative to the max, a must listen, even for raging liberals like me. In person, he was gentlemanly, charismatic, funny, a real kick. I visited him in NYC where I was doing a story on Gorbachev's visit. He was ensconced in his Madison Square Garden studio. He was still fun. Then, as his fame grew, he became less funny, much meaner, believing only his sycophants, in short, an asshole. He frequently bashed the dying or dead if those folks didn't agree with his politics, saing they were about to 'achieve room temperature". He mocked the disabled with stunning cruelty( see Michael J.Fox). In any event, he'll have the best docs and the resources to pay for caregivers for all his needs, including butt wiping, unlike your average geriatric cancer patient. IF he survives, perhaps he'll have a third incarnation, this time a funny , satirical host with some degree of compassion. It's possible.

    1. I despise Limbaugh now, but I used to listen to him on KFBK(?) in Sacramento in the early 80's. He was very good back then, and I don't remember him being all that political at the time.

    2. Hi Christine! I was wondering that myself as there is no such diagnosis as "advanced lung cancer". Strange that Rush would be so vague in his announcement... But apparently it is Stage 4 as that is what Trump said at SOTU speech.

    3. Yes, When Russ was in Sacto he was hysterical..I remember the satirical stuff he did on the Clintons...too funny, and NOT mean...just funny. Then he moved to NY and got mean and too full of himself.

      Delete
    4. Uh, Rush went to NY in the late '80s BEFORE anyone outside of Arkansas knew who the Clintons were. Rush didn't do any Clinton satire until Clinton was the Dem nominee in 1992. Let's not rewrite history to fit a desired narrative.

    1. I'd vote for Bloomberg in a heartbeat, but wouldn't be happy if Kamala was part of the ticket. If the point is to have a black VP running mate, I'd be OK with someone like Booker, although that might be too East Coast-centric.

      Delete
  5. You keep mentioning Kamala Harris for VP. She's shown herself to be a complete goofball and Bloomberg is too smart to get messed up with her. Furthermore, a Democrat doesn't need any connection to California. Harris might even lose that ticket some votes here.

There are plenty of other "ethnic" VP choices for him to consider.

  8. Does anyone remember back in the day before he became the "majority maker" when KGO played reruns of Rush's show on the weekends. Back then I actually thought he was okay because even though he was what he is today he was more willing to bring up the bad stuff the GOP did. Not such a sycophant. I also clearly remember Ronnnnn talking crap about this guy Rush on the weekends and how he wasn't going anywhere with his program. That was right before Ronnnnn tried his LA/SF experiment that tanked badly. Poor Ronnnn. Anyway even though I can't stand Rush, and I hate what I believe talk radio has done to politics. I do not wish cancer on anyone. Even ones that have abused drugs bad enough to cause hearing loss and smoked cigars like a chimney.

    1. When did RBG defend cancer causing industries and tell people - your kids,to use products that cause cancer because there is no proof?
When did she say that ,because I missed it.

  12. I remember when in the 80's Morton Downy Jr, a right wing host blew cigarette smoke into the face of liberal snowflake, anti smoking guests as his audience cheered. A few years later he got lung cancer, then told people he was wrong, and to never start smoking. Rush won't do that,but...
I guess if Rush gets cremated that will be truly his last "smoke".

    1. I had the delightful experience of being booked as a guest on MOrt Downey's show on my book tour. He was ready to skewer me for daring to fight for women's rights. I told a few self-effacing jokes that got the audience laughing, and he was soon eating out of my hand.We had a great time. He blew his smoke to the side.

KPIX was also abysmal. They sent Michelle Griego who also said nothing for five days straight. Another waste.

They could have just paid for *oil changes* for their news trucks. Many stations (hem—KRON, KRON) just run their trucks into the ground rather than just change the oil. Don't ask me why, because an oil change is a lot cheaper than a new truck.

That very same day, Arthur Ashe died from AIDS following a bad blood transfusion. And now we're supposed to be all decorous and sad about Rush's plight? Fuck him. It IS karma. Only it isn't, because to be karma Rush would have had to 1) died at the young age of Ashe and 2) been a great man like Ashe.
