Lloyd Lindsey Young |
THIS IS A GOOD ONE ...and a HUNDRED PERCENT TRUE; Listen up.
Among all the things that pissed off Pete Giddings (and there were many) was Lloyd Lindsey Young who managed to impress a Utah GM that saw Young doing one of his early KGO forecasts..."HELLO, Brisbane!"< you know that stuff?
Back to story...
Giddings was all about control in his reign at Circle7. Anyone in his way he was a control freak. He never really cared about LLY's ascent because he didn't consider Young a threat. And in truth, he wasn't.
Then Lloyd gets a call from WOR and the Super Station in Atlanta. And proceeds to get a $900K offer to go to NY and become the star weatherman.
Now Giddings gets steamed but before that, LLY takes a vacation from KGO for a week; comes back and sees that ALL his office supplies and personal stuff missing. Turns out Giddings went and threw out all his (LLY) shit --man, what a guy, eh.

Pete Giddlings. First class red neck.
ReplyDeleteTough guy act.
right, bay area weather is so boring foggy not foggy, back to u bobby.dodlly come back for a yr or two
ReplyDeleteLloyd was also doing weather at KFRC at the time---and there exists tape of Bill Lee, the rhyming night jock beginning his weather forecast with "After Lloyd Lindsay Young told Pete Giddings to go to hell, he came over here and told me to expect a bit of a warm spell..."
ReplyDeleteAs controlling as Giddings' glory years at KGO-TV were, Pete remains the Gold Standard for all Bay Area TV Weather Anchoring Meteorologists. Before Paul Deanno left KPIX for Chicago, he was the closest to matching Giddings' impressive detailing. The Bay has had other solid weather anchors, but none ever matched Giddings. Just take a look at Pete's website via respective search engine.
ReplyDeleteGidding's was a hot steaming pile with a bloated ego.LLY was abreath of fresh air, corny as is...He got good air. Pete couldn't handle it and lost his shit.
ReplyDeleteStupid overpaid egotistical bastard!
Breath of fresh air...indeed ! Back in the day the Bay Area had REAL personalities. By the way...WOR...now WWOR, was not in Atlanta, but in Secaucus, New Jersey. It came in on cable throughout much of the East Coast.
DeletePete did take what he did seriously and expected those around him to do the same. Lloyd was a clown and his act did get old pretty fast. But the good news is that their both gone and we have Lisa and Sandhya!!!!!
ReplyDeleteCool story bro.
ReplyDeleteMany years ago I had dinner with Lloyd, his wife & kids at a restaurant at Lake Tahoe. No surprise, everyone ordered BBQ RIBS and the paper bibs on each got a workout to be remembered.
ReplyDeleteI’d rather see Leigh Glasser. What’s going on with her?
ReplyDeleteLloyd went to New York, Pete went to Reno.
