Ken Korach |
He's the BEST baseball announcer in the Bay Area and in my Top 10 in the majors.
The Oakland A's veteran PBP broadcaster (on KTRB 860 AM)is a special mixture of concise play-calling; seriously deadly humor; a crisp delivery and isn't afraid to rip the home team when it merits. Korach has a special skill too that I love; the innate ability to give the score of the game multiple times; in fact, sometimes, too many--but I LOVE it.
Korach is in his 23rd year --seems like he's getting better every year.
I agree. His book on Bill King was a wonderful, well-written tribute. I do wish the A's were still on 95.7; I know you've railed against The Game's weak signal, but, here in the Bay where it comes in loud and clear, it sounds infinitely better than 860AM.
ReplyDeleteKorach is really good. Don't sleep on Vince C. He does an excellent job describing the action, and really understands the nuances of the game. There's seemingly nothing contrived in his delivery, and he has a sense of humor as well.
ReplyDeleteMeh.
ReplyDeleteLet me know when he gets national offers like all Giants announcers and one Sharks announcer has.
Hey 10:47 -- The reason why the Sharks announcer is on nationally is because NBCSN wants to save money on sending a traveling crew to do some games. Randy Ho Hum happens to be in the right place at the right time. But otherwise, he should be doing beach volleyball on a foggy day.
DeleteNo doubt. Korach is the proverbial hidden gem. I'd rather listen to him than the self-serving Fat Man in San Francisco, and Homer and Jethro that does their TV too. Dave Flemming isn't bad, but he's surrounded by self-promoting clowns.
ReplyDeleteTouch down Guy Liggins.
ReplyDeleteWe remember Ken Korach's calls vividly.
I'm surprised teams even bother with a radio broadcast and don't just stream the broadcasts. If a radio station wants to pick up the rights, that's a little extra cash.
ReplyDeleteDan,that's just what the A's are doing. Their primary source for the game coverage is Tunein, and KTRB and KHTK are secondary.
ReplyDeleteken, vince and ray are great together, just wondering when they do retire at some point, not vince cause he is a little younger, but it will be a tough act to follow..roxy bernstein, who is filled in from time to time, would be a good replacement..
ReplyDeleteHe's good, but for some reason he always sounds like he's calling the game on a payphone.
