415 Media Exclusive: Deanno/ KPIX Close To Hybrid News/Weather Anchor Gig Only Sticking Point Money; Saturday PM Post

PAUL DEANNO is close to becoming a hybrid KPIX anchor; he's been doing weather regularly on weeknights and has occasionally filled in on the news desk.

I TOLD YOU KPIX upper mgt. brass were so impressed with Deanno's news anchoring that they approached him about a regular gig--as a fulltime news anchor and/or weather anchor.

Whatever the case, Deanno is great in both roles. Now it appears, Deanno is close to doing both. In fact,  both sides are close to making it happen.

A potential sticking point? Money.

Deanno is making pretty good dough as chief weather meteorologist --but wants more compensation if he is to also do news. That's not unreasonable and so what's the big deal?

When it comes to money it's always a big deal. I don't think it's enough to derail the project but I've always said, I'm not surprised at anything anymore. I'll be on this as usual.

  1. The most talented person at KPIX, Brian Hackney, should be pissed.

  2. Paul does an outstanding job with the weather, management would be dumb not to pay him more money to do anchor the news. For that matter, he could replace KEN or ALLEN in a heart beat. HELL, Hackney could also replace either one of them too.

    1. Hackney consistently gets the raw deal. I think management is frightened of bright people. I know when I worked there they were. If you display anything resembling intelligence or independence you immediately end up on their shit list and stay there.

    2. You're so right.

  3. I like Hackney best too, but he's not handsome like Deanno. On TV, looks always win.

    1. Maybe not handsome like Deanno, but Brian is not a bad looking guy. His grooming and dress are more than acceptable, and he has aged pretty well too.

    2. I think age has a lot to do with it. Not ability or talent. TV news is, outside of Bay Area tech, the most ageist business out there.

    1. 1) Sentences are capitalized at the start and end in periods.

      2) Why is it a really "dumb" idea?

    2. 5:45...In this day and age if you are coherent to the point of using a capital to start and a period to end a sentence, you are considered highly educated, well above the "norm."

    3. Comparing Hackney to Deanno, it's not that Deanno is better looking, but that he has "the voice" that comes across just as well on TV.

    4. 3) Sentences can also end in question marks. (See #2)

      4) Sentences can also end in exclamation marks.

      You're welcome!

  6. Deanno is good as a weather anchor, but a news anchor? I do not see him as the face of the station. Bastida is more recognizable and he has presence. Martin is Martin. Money? Deanno won’t attract voters from ABC7 or Fox2.

  7. That would make both Hackney and Deanno weather and news anchors. Remember James Fletcher? He got his start doing weather as well. Now he holds down the fort on the morning news with Diarrhea Folsom.

  8. I prefer Hackney, Authentic.

  9. Speaking of weather guessers, what's up with Mike Nicco? He acts like he's giving the weather to a bunch of kindergarten kids. https://abc7news.com/weather/

  10. KPIX also needs to add more talented reporters like Betty Yu and Maria Medina. Betty's recent Grammys coverage from LA was poised and professional. Most of the other KPIX reporters are painful to watch.
