Len Tillem is ready to come back to KGO
HE HAD THE HIGHEST MID-DAY RATINGS IN SF RADIO when he did his KGO show in the lunch hour. He was topnotch too if you had a sense of humor and enjoyed a lawyer who not only spoke his mind but spoke back at listeners too who gravitated to his, well, uniqueness; an east-coast verbal gravitas that resonated with listeners.

Len Tillem, aka: "Da Loyah" told me he has newfound energy and wants to come back to a newly-formed KGO if  "they want me back. My ratings were #1 and I dominated my time slot."

It would seem too good to be true but in fact, it was new KGO/KSFO PD boss, Jack Swanson that was instrumental in getting Tillem, a trust and estate lawyer from Santa Rosa, on the air to begin with.

Tillem has been relaxing at home with his wife and friends and away from radio. He had an inkling to get back on the air but KGO had a different format run by alien PD's and Tillemhad some minor health issues hit him and wasn't ready to get back into being Da Loyah. "I'm feeling better," he tells me and seems re-energized, re-invigorated over the phone.

"I could do an hour and we can bring back some of the magic."

Tillem has a special relationship with callers; it can be testy at times and uncomfortable with the NY native telling it like it is but it makes for funny, spirited radio and it could generate some buzz for a new KGO sound.

Saying Tillem is strictly a one-hour legal show is like saying Gone With the Wind is only about the Civil War period.

  1. What's old, is mew again. He'll be a welcome addition to the broadcast. This should be the beginning of something great for kgo radio again.

    1. The loyah was never old news as he has always been #1, according to the article. Don't know why KGO ever got rid of him in the first place yet keeping Ronnnn "I'm soooo excited about the new format" Owens.

Have to believe the one hour show would drive new clients to his law business. Swanson may not even have to pay him that much.

  2. Bringing back Len would be a good move. I believe that KGO will need a FM partner if they want to come back big time. AM alone will not do it anymore.

    1. AM or FM, does that matter anymore? If it streams people will listen. Those antenna thngs are for old folks. The youngsters believe that antennas belong where the sun doesn't shine...

  4. While I love my personal estate planning attorney, I don't think I would go to him for legal advice about a criminal or divorce issue. Wills and trusts? Of course! Assault? I'd pull out a phone book.

    1. What?...a phone book?
You must be 75+ years old.
Nobody uses the yellow pages anymore. In fact, you must REQUEST delivery of them because they are invalid and from a bygone era of no internet.

    2. 8:34 hires his lawyers based on how good their rating is on YELP. lol.

Fake news on the yellow pages. Just had them delivered on our street this week. There are multiple companies that put out yellow pages.

  5. I agree with the others. KGO should have kept "Da Loyah" in the first place. The station desperately needs ratings and he was up there. Bringing him back is a score.

  6. Wrong on Swanson. Ken Berry was instrumental in hiring Tillem. I was there. Berry was PD at the time.
