This or That

Image result for This and that THIS: One of the fired KGO hosts might be offered his gig back based on a listener-sponsored threat of boycott of the station's advertisers.

THAT: Supposedly the NAACP got involved too. Nowhere was it reported that the guy's kids still work at KNBR and KGO respectively.

THIS: KTVU, in spite of being the top dog in most time slots and ratings nirvana, has a workforce still mired in poor worker morale. Even some of the big shots that just got contract extensions have seen major pay cuts.

THAT: When you treat your staff like a loaf of stale wonder bread you will then get wonder bread results. So, yes, KTVU is still successful but so many people (reporters, producers) are leaving the bread is getting thinner and thinner.

THIS: KPIX' numerous problems is that its top anchor, (in terms of seniority) Ken Bastida is sort of letting it be known that he's probably near either retiring or leaving; he even made an on-air reference the other night...Nothing is official and Bastida might be utilizing a public "do you want me?" contract leverage at his boss.

THAT: Only Bastida has no leverage; his leaving (if it happens) doesn't make PIX suddenly unwatchable. But it does signify that everyone else is expendable too.

THIS: KRON still doesn't know what the hell its doing nor does it seem to care; have you watched its news lately? Nothing stands out. The ordinary newscast is horrible. The K-TEL format is a joke. One of its best reporters, Spencer Blake, just left to join the CBS station in Phoenix. Everyone uses KRON as a stepping stone to go somewhere else.

THAT: Notice all the weather ladies leaving in droves; notice anchors coming and going; notice the latest lemming, Steve Aveson is just hanging around because KRON can't find his replacement. KRON is the Cleveland Browns of local TV stations with no plan and rudderless. And it would be nice if someone bought them a decent sound system unlike the one they bought at Radio Shack.

  1. I don't know much about Nextstar other than they own or run numerous TV stations in the country. I do know, however, that they haven't done anything with KRON4 since they assumed ownership. What a shame!

  2. The guy who is suddenly the NAACP's new best friend has a string of white ex-wives and a particular pride in not being, "a genuine black man".

    1. Excellent point 5:04.
Thank goodness someone brought up this point.
Suddenly, the NAACP is Brian Copeland best friend.
      What a phony.

    2. What does Brian's choice of a wife have to do with anything? Anyone that has listened to Brian over the years will know he has been very honest about it, just happens he fell in love with white women. I'm single in my seventies, after I was divorced at 38 I had a few boyfriends over the years, some younger anywhere from 9 to 12 years, did I plan that, no it just happened. As for the title "Not a genuine black man" that is not Brian's description of himself, it is something a black listener came up with after listening to him on KGO (back when KGO was the old KGO) Brian decided to use it as a title for his book, and later produced and starred in a play with same name. I for one would like Brian back on KGO with both Ronn and Brian gone there are no local hosts left on week days. Ethan Bearman is not really local and does not do interviews with local politicians as both Ronn and Brian use to do (Jackie Speer, Barbara Lee, Eric Swalvwell, probably wrong spelling, and others). Dr. Drew is syndicated and seem to just be another run of the mill host talking with his producer and not taking calls. I have not listened much to him, he is on when there are other hosts I find more interesting, even though I don't agree with them, Michael Medved, Tom Sullivan, and Michael Savage, not a Savage fan, but think his take on the Syria situation and John Bolton is right on.

  6. Psst KGO...did they even have the disposable income to buy the items in the first place?

  7. If Copeland gets his job back, I will wonder why the hell he wants it. And then, I won't listen, like everyone else.

  10. THIS: The Bay Area media scene is one hot mess overflowing with mediocrity. A 180 from what it was in the first decade of the 2000s.

THAT: If anything, it's going to get worse and no matter what Dick Lieberman says and how people feel, it's not going to get any better.

  11. And what is up with KTVU's morning reporters not producing packages. On their 4 and 5pm newscasts they literally recycle the same "liveshots" that were actually live that morning...

  12. Meanwhile the NBC "Investigative Unit" truck is constantly checking out malfeasances in the food court of the Emeryville Public Market and Peets coffee house. Seems to be a lot of "news" going on there.

  15. Why can't Brian Copeland accept his firing from KGO?
Copeland it is time for you to move on with your life.
Accept your firing, just ask your buddy Ronn Owens.

    1. Only listen to Armstrong & Getty now. Wish Ronn, reg. program, & Brian were still there.

  16. Speaking of the A's broadcasts for those of us who need or like to have the broadcasts turned in to text to read, the A's are absolutely confounding SAP with its three announcers. Apparently, even though there are three voices now, SAP only allows two. So they pick their two announcers of the day and go for it....
